He looks like he's having a great time! Awesome photo....

Kinda reminds me of a tour, I'm not sure but I think it was the "Around the World in a Day" - Era....

It sure looked like they all had a great time on stage that night.

I was right in front of Hannah and she was laughing and smiling both concerts.

Actually a lot of people told me that they loved how the band was smiling and had fun.

And all the guys were in love with Hannah.

So, I told them that her husband was on stage with her evillol evillol

Somebody who works at Paradiso and actually dislikes Prince, was enthusiatstic about this concert.

She was not impressed with the Melkwegconcerts.

however, she did go to see the second show in Paradiso, eventhough she was sick, and she loved it! And really, that was the first time in my life, I ever heard her saying that she really loved a concert of Prince.

My best friend is not crazy about Prince (allthough his 2 best friends are fams...), and he also was very, very impressed. He even wanted to watch a Prince video afterwards. And really, I've tried that a lot in the past decades, but could never persuade him.

I was so happy that they understood why I adore this man wink

I still buzzing in my purple cloud yoda

Good to see you people had a great time. Turns my stomach I couldn't get tickets while there were people who thought the girls were an opening band, but I guess that's life.

I NEED to see them damned, love me some hardrocking Prince.

I am following Prince since 82, attending my first concert in 86. I am happy for Prince that he has moved on and is not sticking with his old 82-87 stuff; too many bands from the 70/80ties do that. That is why I agree that he should not touch any of the old Revolution songs (or he should rework them like Moonbeam Levels, All day all night etc). However, although I am certainly not the arbiter of good taste, really so far (generally speaking) what I heard and saw of the 3rdeye girls (incl the livestream of Paradiso) I think they are not up to Prince's standard. Yes they are loud, wild, heavy whatever; but I dont think (just my 2 cents) they are top class musicians. Good musicians can play quietly and with variations. Long hair does not do the trick for me; I rather watch Tommy Barbarella in that case. eek These concerts are the first concerts in NL I decided upfront to skip, and I have attended them all since 19 Aug 86. I may get old and grumpy though cool

[Edited 8/13/13 2:29am]

I think that if you can only listen to it, you don't get the vibe, energy and connection there was.

I love to watch video's from concerts where I actually was present, to relive the moments.

When I wasn't there, I watch the video with a distance and then you see it very different than having experienced it.

It's the difference between watching somebody eating lush icecream on a hot day on video or sucking up and licking the ice cream yourself.

It's a different thing.

Yes, I also have that sense of entitlement for fans.

Fortunately, there were a lot of die hard fans.

I think that is important, because the atmosphere in the audiance was relaxed and everybody was thrilled. Very positive and it really makes a difference during the concert.

It's great to chat and make jokes with eachother before the concert starts. It's the people around you in the audiance that also influence the experience. And I was so happy to be surrounded by enthusiastic and positive Prince fans. Sharing our joy and happiness, really does make it flow more.

And it radiates, because when the audiance connects with eachother and the band, than the real ectasy is created together.

I felt that there was a very strong connection in Paradiso, and that's what makes the experience so extraordinary.

And yes, next time we will put you in her place wink

Paradiso tickets sold for insane prices on marktplaats Shame on U "Princefan" and shame on U Paradiso for letting people Buy 4 tickets instead of 2! eek

Don't want to sound like a saint, but just to make you feel a little better; I sold my 3 extra tickets to an orger and a friend for the original price. These tix ended up wrongly in my account, should have been 3 early show tix so I wasn't greedy..)

And the best part is this orger I sold the tix to is 17 and it will be her first show! So it couldn't have been a better destination. I've been fortunate enough to see him so many times, up in front and way in the back..this is my way of paying the good times forward.

I truly dislike making fast money over the backs of fellow fans, shouldn't have to be that way, but it's not Prince's fault, or Paradiso's, cause you could easily have 3 tabs open and get 6 tix anyhow if the limit would have been 2...imo.

Good job!

That is exactly how it should be. You are saint biggrin

Question to those who were at the 2nd show:

Did you also think the ending waws abrupt?

I thought they would play till the early morning hours.

And the audiance waited, thinking they would come back for more. But than the big guy started to disentmantle the drums.

By that time I was dehydrated and overheated, so I went to the bar and upstairs, expecting them to come back to the stage.

But they didn't. I hung around, was the last one to get kicked out, but to no avail.

At first I thought something really bad happened, because the stopped the show abruptly and it was so short.
But than, I could hear pingpong sounds from the cellar, so he must have been fine.

Anybody knows what happened?

Were they done with it?

I read on the news (teletext yesterday) that Prince decided to cut the show short and leave no less than 9 songs unplayed. Reading that makes me feel better about not being there, because I would have tried my best to go to the late show thinking that was going to be the longer one.
And I totally agree with DJJ that it's all about the vibe of a concert, the experience. That's why Prince hates those damn phones. And I'm also getting a little tired of folks reading setlists on this site and then complain about concerts they didn't even see.
Maybe we spend too much time at the web...

I went to both shows and he seemed to get tired as the 2nd show progressed. Maybe that's why he cut it short. The start of the 2nd show was absolutely brilliant with out-of-this world singing on the Breakdown but I felt his solos got sloppier and he left more of them for Donna later on during the show. It might have also been myself getting tired, by the way... biggrin

No music after the show and closing the bar abruptly gave me that idea and the fact that P. started 15 minutes earlier.

No. They had a permit till 4.

And the thing is, even if they said something about 2, I don't think they actually ever expected him to obey.

It's Paradiso. It's the ultimate Pop temple. They would be very surprised if an artist would totally comply.

Allthough the neighbour of Paradiso is giving the venue a hard time. Always complaining.

I don't understand that. Why on earth live in one of the most expensive houses, in the hart of Music and cultural Amsterdam, and than complain about the noise.

sorry. Off topic.

I got the impression that they did not expect him to stop that early.

Otherwise, they would have arragend a dj in the 'bovenzaal', so we could dance and had a soft landing there.

Now it was cold turkey.

I understand that they did get people out. Because, you don't want to keep 1000 people who can drink but don't get entertained.

So, I understand that they closed the bars and chucked people out.

After the disentmantling of the drums, everybody knew nothing would happen anymore.

Very happy dJJ that you like the current band and you are not alone reading the Org comments. But traditionally people have glorious memories of something if it has just occured. But be realistic and think about your past experiences; I simply had too many over the past 25+ years with Prince concerts, in NL, in Europe and outside; regular concerts and after shows. And IMO it's like food; it should smell and look nice before you are ready to taste it. I have decided to skip this tour for the reason I am not impressed by the band and the setting.

But let's wait for the soundboard biggrin

Yes, we probably do have different ways of experiencing and validating things.

But, I agree with you wholeheartedly that you should not go to a concert if you feel bad about it.

That is a very personal thing. And I tend to rely on my gut feeling a lot.

So, if your gut feeling is telling you not to go, than I agree with you, don't go.

For me, music is a language. Just like art.

Surely, there are better concerts performed than Prince & 3rdEyegirl Sunday in Paradiso.

Personally, I think the Concert Gebouw Orkest is musically on top of the world.

But, for me, a live concert is not about how musically perfect is is. Or how perfect the sound system or acoustics of the venue is.

For me, it's the energy, the connection, that living in that moment fully, that is what makes it so ecstatic for me.

And maybe the girls are not the all time best musicians it the world, I would not know. I don't analyze their music.

But the girls did connect with eachother, with Prince and with the audiance.

It was an explosion of energy and love back and forth with the audiance.

And that can't be translated or analyzed, imo.

I just heard a snippet back and I was in tears of joy and felt smitten with Prince.

And no, it was not the best recording, or whatever the best.

But I sure did FEEL it.

And to me, that is what a live piece is about. To life it.

Few weeks ago, I went to the Van Gogh museum. And my favorite paintins of him are not the perfect ones. It are the fierce and tense ones that make my heart flow.

hi, please tell me, where do you see that? At the right is the right balcony, I see someone sitting up there. Just right from his shoulder, that looks like a sticker or something. Or a bass drum image of the 3rd Eye Girl. Two big spot lights in the roof. And The Man With The Cow Bell.

Wait, I get my other glasses. Would you please explain, or point out with paint or snaggit what you see. I'm always interested in pictures with extra dimensions.

I agree. the girls might not be the best musicians in the world, but they play with energy, and they play like a real club/small venue band. it's almost like Prince and the girls were just that band that no one knows about yet and are at the start of something big. wink

the kind of show they did wasn't about playing perfectly, it was all about the energy, and vibe in the room. like a real rock concert in a small venue. it was almost like, like i said, that i was watching one of the up and coming rock bands i've seen in the paradiso and melkweg. wink

i like that. the bootleg sounds very good, but the feeling isn't the same as being there, this really something that you have to experience in person. it's the vibe in Paradiso and feeling of the music that still have me on a high 2 days later. it was just a rocking and raw show, at least to me.

Yes it ended pretty abruptly but my only guess is that he gave it all and there was nothing to add or top it, if you are an artist and playing to the bone on a night like that then sometimes that's what happens..Game, set, match

And again, that all is a matter of personal taste.

nicely said clapping

i know exactly what you mean. there is nothing like the feeling of dancing around while prince music is blasting away nearby. it's a physical high, unlike any other.

we know that certain frequencies of sound can be harmful to the human body, we also know that certain frequencies can be helpful. maybe someday prince music will be sold in pharmacies around the world instead of antidepressants .. .. biggrin

Today I caught myself dancing on the Prince music, that I still hear in my head.

Thing was.......I was standing in line at the cassier, in the supermarket.

When I caught myself and stood still, the other costumer laughed and told me that it was okay to keep on dancing. lol lol

No.

If you made a picture, you got removed from the venue.

And they were very strict.

So, not many pictures.
