Hi There. I too was at the show last night (Friday) and I can tell you Wednesdays show was a million times better. Last night was odd but I'm not sure why. The crowd to me also seem subdued compared to the high energy audience we experienced on Wednesday. I did like te solos the horn players did. Also the arrangments of the songs may have been a factor, but like I said, Wednesday, everything was perfect.

Well I guess that's good to hear. We all agreed that Friday night was not very good and it was a waste of money. I can't imagine Prince using that band for his own shows. The women are decent singers but are not very unique at all. And again, where were the "special guests"? They needed someone to change thing up. And what was up with that ending? They just kinda stopped playing and that terrible dj started spinning. I guess you live and learn.

[Edited 8/25/13 14:09pm]

Well I would not say it was a waste of money. If you went there with expectations of something else, then I could see it being a disappointment for you, moreso than a waste of time. But I think if you were familiar with the type of music, both artists sing, then you pretty much had some insight beforehand, on the type of sound they may present at the show. I also don't agree that they are just 'decent' singers. If you can move someone with your voice/performance, then you are unique in your own way. I think it is also depends on what kind of music you like. For example, if you were looking for more of a straight, rock-based sound, then I can see where your expectations and opinion would differ. Nothing wrong with that, you're entitled to your personal opinion, and I respect that, but I think if you did attend more than one show, you may have had a different opinion of the performance(s).

When did this ever-changing lineup stop being "real"?
The way as I see it, as long as you get a paycheck signed by SOMEone from Prince's camp, and they say you're one of them, you've earned the right to be called a member of the NPG...

What about the beautiful talented Cassie??

I said the whole band worked hard, and yes including Cassie. I couldn't really see Cassie on stage during Wednesday's show, because her keyboard was blocking my view. On Friday, as I was standing on the far right side of stage, so couldn't see her at all, but heard her sing a little more, than she did on Wednesday. So it's all good, she did her part, and like I said, that band works hard, and I enjoyed both shows. I didn't make any plans to attend tonight's show, because I'm worn out just from the two I attended, lol, so those going, have a great time! smile

Oh and despite what I stated in my previous post, I have to give a shoutout and thanks to the entire NPG band, especially Liv and Shelby J, for coming to NYC and giving us their best. I appreciate all of them and their talent. They have so much energy, they could roll it up in a candy bar and sell it.

Oh, yeah I forgot all about Cassandra. She was talking to much! Shelby is a hype man but she can sing so she was enjoyable. Liv & Alice were here. "Shade of Umber" was amazing!! You reminded me of things that I forgot about.

Lol. No what I meant was that Cassandra just doesn't seem 'approachable' so when I feel that kind of energy, I don't attempt to go near. That's just the vibe I was picking up from her. Shelby and Alice were mingling with fans, and were very nice, embracing, and appreciative towards the fans they spoke to. I don't think Liv was around on the floor after the show, so she must have been resting for the next show. But all-in-all I had a great time, got funktified by the NPG band and so satisfied with that. Fun time! smile

Now if people go to the shows with expectations of Prince showing up, and he doesn't, then they've already set themselves up for disappointment, but if you go with no expectations, to see Liv, Shel and the rest of the NPG band perform and take in the music, then you can enjoy yourself. However, if Prince does show up at any of the remaining shows, then kudos to the fans that get lucky and experience that.

Well maybe you should feed yourself a little more often, because you seem to have taken my comment out of context to please your assumptions. You really must be bored, and need something to raise your excitement level. When I said Cassandra wasn't too engaging with fans, (this was at the time I saw her) it was because she was speaking to people that apparently knew her, and standing nearby, it wasn't hard to figure that out. I was with a friend who was going to go over to her, but I pointed out that I didn't think it would be the right moment to do that, so we respected Cassandra's space. I have no reason to throw shade, hate, negativity to a musician/artist I don't know. So no, it's not your trumped-up-need-a-reason-to-start-sh*t-assumption, so just let it be, and don't bother responding if your intention is to threadjack my post. Maybe you lost your excitement in your life somewhere along the line, and need to find any reason to get it back.

Maybe I used the wrong wording. I'd just be surprised if he used this lineup on a major tour. They are all very good musicians, don't get me wrong. Cassandra O'Neal has been playing with him for a while although he always has at least one keyboard player like Morris Hayes. She played well and seemed like she was running things Fri night some of the time. I wasn't really into her banter. Although Andrew Gouche is a great bass player, I'll take Ida over him any day and Tyrone Hendrix is not in the same league as John Blackwell.(few are) I don't think Ryan Waters has played with Prince before except for the Chicago Winery show. He hasn't been using a 2nd guitarist much over the last few years. The NPG Hornz are cool as a whole but I don't think any of them are as good as Mike Philips, Maceo or even Candy. I don't think he would use any of them by themselves. I don't think he has used them at his shows many times but I may be wrong. I would have liked to see Alice Smith perform on Fri seeing as a lot of people thought she was great on Tues. It seemed strange there was no guests on Fri like was advertised. As for the singers, they all sing well but I'm not really into hearing other people singing Prince songs and wasn't too crazy about any of their originals.

Ok, I did exaggerate about them sounding like a wedding band. And I did recognize Cassandra O'Neal who played well. However to me, anyone in a band called NPG should have played and toured with Prince. I don't think they've been a seperate band since 1993. I was hoping at least John Blackwell and Ida would be there and maybe Mr Hayes. Plus Hannah Ford tweeted earlier in the day that she would be there. Maybe she was but she didn't play. Shelby and Liv were probably on their game, I just tired of them after a few songs. Some of it was good and some of it really dragged. Where were the special guests that were advertised? That's what got me to shell out $80. I really wasn't expecting Prince to show again.

The way as I see it, as long as you get a paycheck signed by SOMEone from Prince's camp, and they say you're one of them, you've earned the right to be called a member of the NPG...

Also, I wish I could get invited to one of your friends' weddings, because NO wedding I've attended with a live band has had a group of players like THAT... eek lol

My twocents wink

Why this rule? and really who cares? If they dont tour or play with Prince, but they rehearse with him and take direction from him behind the scenes and get paid by him , does that not make them a member? The reality is,that its not our band, its Prince's band and he can can call them whatever he wants.

Im sorry but I dont know what you mean by the statement in bold. and I'll have to disagree with you about them being decent singers. I think they are great singers and wonderful performers.

Okay I get it. You have your favorites as to who can play what, but that does not mean it has to happen that way. A few of the musicians you mention dont work for Prince right now or anymore, they are off doing others things, so despite them playing for Prince for a certain time they are not available and thats just a reality you have to accept.

If you're not feeling the band now then thats okay too.
