Now that i recuperated from two AMAZING shows, first and foremost the NPG band last night IS THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!! THEY TORE ME UP!!!!!! I mean Shelby, Liv, Cassandra and Alice were beyond excellent! They brought it and let me say those Horns players are crazy!!! I mean they went in!!!!!

The first show was awesome and the midnight show turned into a late night dance party. I never had so much fun in a long time. For those naysayers and doubters who think that the band could not do a show without Prince are DEAD WRONG! Please if you are in the area and have the ability to attend you need to go. Last night was all about real music by real musicians and I feel honored, in this current music world of computers and Pro Tools and special effects to witness raw talent before my eyes I feel blessed.

and most of all hanging out with my gurls 2Elijah and chocolate1 made it all the more special. cool

I must say, there was one Prince song, Shelby, Liv and Cassandra sang it in high vocal register that blew my mind. I think it was Rasbery Beret??? Chocolate1 you remember??? We were like OH!!!!!!!!

The drummer, bass player and the guy who played the electric guitar were awesome too.

What a night!! cool

I hear you! So much fun with you two yesterday as well. hug Sorry I couldn't stay for the late show, but glad you two stayed and had a great time. I agree with everything in your post. The NPG band brought the funk down in the house, and the energy Liv and Shelby have is unbelievable. Love them! Talk about powerhouse singers, Liv Warfield, Shelby J and Alice Smith, all 3 hitting the stage?? Some serious soul thunder. Got to hand it the the rest of the band members, for doing a good job, and loved that rock/soul guitar solo Ryan Waters did, during one of Liv's songs. I hope those attending tonight's shows have a great time!

I'm curious. This band is called NPG but have the members all actually played with Prince before? Were they in his recent band in Europe when he used the larger band at certain shows? I know members come and go but I don't recognize these musicians.

I totally agree. I think it's kinda dumb when Prince says it nevermind his fans. I also think when he says "everyone else is lip syncing" is also kind of dumb. Maybe some dopey pop stars do (Madonna, Britney, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Katy, Beyonce etc..)it but I have yet to see any serious singers ever do it.

I had a great time last night!
I got to spend time with 2elijah and wonder505, make new friends, and see an awesome show...

I have to be honest:
I was not impressed with Alice Smith after Carnegie Hall, but she went OFF last night!
This morning, I went online to see if she's touring anywhere. DAMN! faint

I read some negative comments online this morning- from people who weren't even there last night. confused
No, Prince wasn't there, but those who performed gave it their hearts and souls, and deserve credit where credit is due...

**There is a rumor that Prince will be there tonight.
There was no guarantee that he'd be there last night, and I went there knowing that and still enjoyed myself.
I hope those who originally bought tickets for tonight get the opportunity, and those who ran and got tickets as soon as they heard the rumor are satisfied...

I know I was when I got home this morning... nod

I went to a show where the opening act came out with a Mac computer, set it on a stool, and hit play.
I have Garage Band on my computer, too. Does that make me a musician?
There is a difference between playing a musical instrument, and programming a computer to make musical sounds.

I also attended a show where the act sang over his own tracks.
I love watching musicians on stage... I was bored to tears with him. To me, that's karaoke.

I agree with you but that is a very small percentage of the music being played. I saw Santigold a few years back who I like but the music was totaly canned. I left around half way through.(she has since used a band) On the other hand I've see some great electronic music played. For that matter there are a few Prince songs that are mostly programmed, with very little actual conventional instruments played on them that I love. (It & SEX come to mind)

I was there at the front of the stage and it felt good.

I only intended to go to the early show, but then Prince landed in NY.

Then there were some rumors to the point where I was going to buy a ticket.

Then Shelby invited everyone at the early show (it was a really small crowd) to attend the midnight show for free, just in case a special guest appeared. I talked to several band members who refused to confirm that Prince would be there or perform, but they all encouraged me to stay. It was worthe the wait. The early show was short and not as great as Wednesday's early show. The crowed started noticing Donna in the house. Prince was very happy, except for the few seconds when a microphone gave some annoying feedback. They should be in great shape for their next jazz festival performance.

There was a set list taped to the floor that was not followed at all. For example, there was no NAACP medley. The lyrics to Shhh were taped to the floor, but that was not performed. The order was also quite different. Alice Smith was at the show, but she did not perform Thursday night.

I tried to take the set list home with me, but security took it away from me. Can someone say Control Freak? Hmmmmmm.....

He better show up at the xpensive Sunday show....

Anyone know what they played esp with Prince? Did he just show up or did he rock the house? Did he play guitar? Ok, just found this info: Musicology, Something in the Water Does not Compute, All the Critics Love You in New York, Brown Skin, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough/Cool (with Doug E Fresh), Nothing Compares 2 U and Big City.

"Note to Prince and his Fans."

City Winery would like to make sure that it is clear that the six show residency is for New Power Generation, Shelby J., Liv Warfield and NPG Hornz. These shows are not "Prince" shows. When we found out that Prince was confirmed to appear at the venue, we hastily announced late last night that the show was a Prince performance. This was not the initial plan, and Prince was only scheduled to come as a special guest. Out of respect for his fans, Prince decided to perform and not disappoint the attendees.

City Winery would like to make sure that the Friday and Sunday night shows remain as they were originally billed: "New Power Generation, Shelby. J., Liv Warfield and NPG Hornz w/ Special Celebrity Guests Nightly". We apologize for any inconvenience this communication may have caused and we appreciate that Prince values his fans so much, that he performed last night, and went beyond anyone’s expectation delivering an epic experience for people. He really is the world’s greatest artist and we are humbled to be part of these historic shows.

Sincerely, Michael Dorf, Shlomo Lipetz and the entire City Winery team.

This whole thing is kind of a mess, isn't it? Props to Prince, though, if he really hadn't intended to perform Thursday night and only did it because Michael Dorf misled people. I think I will avoid Michael Dorf productions from now on!
