After the freshness of the 3rd eye girls tour set lists, looks like we are back to the same old funked out tired set list. ho-hum.

Only thing is the band is killing that ho hum set list. Very fresh. Fuck the nay Sayers. Hannah's holding it down at tender age of 22. Donna and Ida and gouche are killing the rhythm and bottom lastly those aren't cheesy horns but ballsy horns. I like it

Yeah, I hear you swanny. Got tickets for Montreux rather than any other show to 'avoid' the same ol' hits set list, so I hope this is not a sign of what he will do in Montreux... I am sure it is funky but I'd rather hear something new and fresh, and/or old songs rarely performed live. Time will tell.

Thank you! I attended the show at the City Winery in the Chi and I left thinking WTF? Have I just relived the first show at the United Center again? This is the third time (in a row in Chicago) that I've seen him and he has disappointed me. Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm out growing his live shows. I have loved him for over 30 years and I'm very (dare I say) hurt. I was expecting too much. I used to be on a high after his shows. I was thinking why am I hearing Janet and Michael at a Prince show. He has more than enough material. Why load your show with other people's material? If I wanted to hear their stuff I would go to their show. Maybe I just need to quit him for live shows. I will not accept whatever you give Prince. It is not enough to just be in the room with you. I describe the show like this." It was like familiar sex. Nice but nothing to write home about."

Interesting you would say this. I don't fault you for wanting what oyu want, P to play guitar for instance, but are you really surprised he played MJ or Janet at this show? He's been doing that for at least 3 years now. He's been doing covers in shows at least since the first time I ever saw him in person, back in '99.

I think we are gonna have to get used to the 22 piece band for a while. I think sometimes he is more interested in hearing his band than he is letting us hear him. Perhaps he feels that he has lost some of the old magic and needs to surround himself with a huge band so we don't notice.

-----I checked out the clip and he was kicking ass. He has a rock band and a funk band and people are still bitching it might be time for some of you to get off the Purple boat.

With all due respect, I don't think it's 'bitching' at all. I was there and had a good time (I completely lost it on Partyman and Extraloveable, lol) but I completely agree with folks about the setlist. There were way too many covers. How many times must we hear the NAACP jams? There was also a kinda cool but mostly lame 'dance battle' in the encore. I'm sorry, but if I pay money to see Prince, I expect Prince. It's just bizarre to me that he absolutely kicked ass these past couple of months with 3EG then reverts back to the same tired covers. Once again, I had a decent time but it was a bit of a letdown, setlist wise.

It was an after show not a regular concert. If you have spent any amount of time on this board you should be aware of the different between the after show and a regular concert.

I've been to 2 other aftershows and 2 other concerts. I am well aware of the difference. I ain't looking for him to play Purle Rain. No need to be snarky. The other 2 'aftershows' I attended had tons of awesome stuff from Prince. I STILL believe this show was mediocre. Too many covers and the tired long winded NAACP jam Sidebar: Aren't 'aftershows' usually known to be where Prince really let's loose? From reading about past aftershows and some fairly current ones Prince goes pretty much all out. This one was just kinda lame. Not terrible, but kinda lame.
