Just checked into my hotel in Denver. Can't wait for tomorrow night!

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Just got into the Ogden and just missed the purple armband by 1 person. If I'm hitting the second show also, how can I get a purple band? Anyone know? smile

Wow! What a mind blowing experience tonight was! Prince was on fire and really loving the crowd!!! My ears are still ringing!

Set list from 8pm show that started at around 8:20
Lets Go Crazy
Endorphinemachine - incredible to finally see this song LIVE
Screwdriver
The Max - WOW again another song I've waited years to see LIVE
ICNTTPOYM
A Case Of U
Purple Rain - piano
Forever In My Life - again! Simply amazing
She's Always In My Hair
The Ride - too cool!
Sampler Set
Nasty Girl
When Doves Cry
Housequake
Love Bizzare

Encore 1
Play That Funky Music
Plectrum Elektrum

Encore 2
Guitar - awesome song LIVE
Crimson & Clover - surprised how excited the crowd was for this one

I know I'm missing a few in there...overall it was just beyond EPIC!

Prince was playful with the crowd, really dug the audiences involvement with each song, had us chanting Colorado which was cool and even said at one point..."I may need to buy me a house here!" which of course made the crowd go even more nuts!

Finally the girls definitely held their own and as always Prince gave them all a chance to shine. Donna really can shred and Hannah and Ida did a great job! Prince is having fun again and once again proved why he one the worlds top LIVE entertainers. A living legend who proved he is a one of a kind icon of our times.

[Edited 5/13/13 22:17pm] I went to the 2nd show on the 12th, & LOVED "The Ride" too!!! Did he do the "I'll take you there" mashup on Crimson & Clover??? Guitar was one of the songs I wished he would've done in the show I saw... sad

Wow! Two amazing shows. I was up in the balcony for the first, but down near the front row for the second. Some of the songs he played in the second show that I don't think he played in the first were "The Love You Make," "Fix Ur Life Up", "Bambi," and "U Got The Look," which was the closing number. I thought the highlights of both shows were ICNTTPOYM and "She's Always In My Hair." But it was all fantastic. And I agree that Donna ROCKS!

I went to both of the late shows in Denver and they were each amazing. The second night and closing date of the tour was the best in my opinion.

Just the right mix of the rarely played songs, the newer songs and everyone who wanted to hear the famous ones got a welcome gift of Lets Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, U Got the Look and the amazing Purple Rain rendition on keyboards, with Prince telling the crowd to slap anyone in the back of the head if they weren't singing along at the end with the Ooooo Oooooo Ooooo Oooooo outro

I stood at the first rail behind the VIP pit, so about 10 feet away and he was so engaged with the crowd the last night, seemed to be in a great mood, throwing his towel to the crowd, passing his guitar into the pit, having fans dance on stage and just doing those looks and struts and grins that he's so famous for

3rd Eye Girl rocks and really hold their own with him as he snaps his fingers and directs them like a conductor from his keyboard spot

His soloing on She's Always in My Hair was so vintage cool and he played tons of guitar at these shows

Definitely a great experience, especially given his limited appearances in Colorado over his career

These summaries are spot on for the first show Monday night. The energy was electric. I was off to the side but fairly close to the stage (first rail behind the pit). Watching his facial expressions was a highlight. He was able to communicate so much to his band members and drive the crowd crazy with just a few smirks and his telling eye movements.

"Purple Rain" at the piano was an amazing treat. But "Forever in My Life," "She's Always in My Hair and ICNTTPOYM made the evening extraordinary.

You can listen to the One Nite Alone CD to get an idea.

Otherwise, the versions he played here in Denver, were very similar to how he performed it at First Avenue in 1983. But each performance was different, he went off in entirely different directions, with the guitar solos played each time.

My official review from the show....

http://styledenver.com/re...-the-ogden

Wow! What a mind blowing experience and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Prince playing the tiny 1700 person Ogden Theater in Denver. His royal badness is in full on rock mode during his latest west coast Live Out Loud tour that started in Vancouver and ended in Denver Monday night. This tour was all about Princes’ legendary after show performances. Throughout the past 20+ years Prince has played after shows in small venues across the world after playing huge arena shows. This included a stop at Denver’s own The Church years ago which I’m still bitter I missed. These after hours shows are always about the other side of Prince. The hard rock, long jams, incredible covers that underscore the genius that is Prince’s musical prowess. He had four performances total at the Ogden 8pm and 11:30pm on both Sunday and Monday.

PRINCE LIVE

Backed by his incredibly talented all-female 3rd Eye Girl band, Prince was in a playful mood with the crowd from the outset. His exuberance for each song he played was undeniable. He poured his heart, soul and tons of heavy guitar, into everything he played which varied from fan favorite B-sides to his hits to new material that rocked the Ogden!

He opened the set with “Let’s Go Crazy” that was a hard rock, funked-up, reinterpretation of the original. The slower tempo and the incredible groove got the crowd moving immediately. Prince now looking like a modern-day Jimi Hendrix sporting his new 70′s style afro was loose and having fun.

He showed right away that his new backing band is nothing to mess around with. Donna Grantis crushed it on his new “Screwdriver” single with Prince giving way to let her take the lead or duel it out with her throughout the night. While the also incredible Ida Nielson on bass and smoking hot Hannah Ford on drums really rocked their own solos and meshed incredibly well with Prince after only a few months playing together as a band.

Taking no breaks between songs Prince continued to play the unexpected from his back catalog including the mind blowing “Endorphinemachine” and fan favorite B-side “She’s Always In My Hair“. Each one a revamped heavy rock rendition that sounded like they were new tunes he was debuting for the very first time. Prince had no spotlights on the stage but only his impressive LED screen behind him keeping the players dark and the stage moody for most of the show. Prince didn’t save “Purple Rain” for the his final number but instead made it his third song of the set. He played it from the piano and the results were stunning. The crowd taking lead for much of the song as Prince instructed the crowd “If the person next to you ain’t singing…slap em!” He then launched into an incredible cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of U“.

Making sure to provide the casual fans with songs they know and love, his sampler set delivered with only his silhouette and lights from the screen. He teased the crowd with samples of “Nasty Girl” and “Housequake” while bringing up people to dance on stage. When he kicked off “When Doves Cry” the crowd erupted and Prince let the crowd take over singing while he played DJ with the crowd in the palm of his hands getting them to wave their hands from side to side, clapping and chants throughout the set. At one point even getting the crowd chanting “Coloradoooo!” and commenting when it was over…”I may need to buy me a house here!” which of course made the crowd go even more nuts!

After he killed it during his first encore he asked the crowd “Don’t ya’ll want to let your friends in from outside?” To which the crowd said emphatically…NO!!! Prince appearing to be surprised by their response just laughed and said “Okay” and then ripped into his killer new instrumental track “Plectrum Electrum“. He left the stage only to come back minutes later after applause and foot stomping that had me a bit concerned with The Ogden’s structural integrity. Ending the night with “Guitar” and a crowd pleasing cover of “Crimson & Clover” mixed with “Wild Thing” was an excellent choice on a beautiful night full of amazing music.

It’s always incredible to see Prince live and last night once again proved why he is, indeed one of the best, if not THE best live entertainers in the world. In the end…Prince at the Ogden was beyond epic.
