purplekat said: What time can we start lining up for the early show? Get there BEFORE 5! If history repeats itself, they will be giving the first 40-50 ppl VIP wristbands to stand in front of the security barricade. It is SO worth the wait! My friend and I just took turns going to grab food, drinks, restroom...etc To improve your chances of going on stage, stand next to the speakers and staff controlling the curtains off to the far right of the stage (Anaheim venue may be different). The dancers exit the stage and come out looking for SOBER people that are grooving HARD. It also helps to be observant; befriend people that you notice coming and going from backstage to the crowd. It never hurts to simply ASK if you could go on stage...that's what I did. Good luck and enjoy! The bar specials
Anyone try them, what do they look like?? I remember going to see Pink and her cocktail came in a glass that had flashing LEDs, looked so cool once the lights went off, sort of like Wicked ones You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

So its reyka vodka/lemonade and they float razzmatazz on top. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

First show was bonkers. After 15 concerts I finally saw him play "I could never take the place of your man."
Awesome. | |

I hope whoever here went, had a great time.
The Grove is a very special place... I remember attending KORG's 40th anniversary party there back in 2003. Herbie Hancock and Joe Zawinul (joined by Sheila E.).
Beautiful spot. "He's a musician's musician..."

No I'm anxiously waiting too! I wanna know what went down last night. I have 4 friends who went last night, 2 to the early show and 2 to the late show. They must be recovering or trying to make it to work today. ONe friend messaged me that they are being VERY STRICT ON cameras and cell phones and escorting people out who even bring out their cell phone for a second. Beware.

They must be recovering or trying to make it to work today. ONe friend messaged me that they are being VERY STRICT ON cameras and cell phones and escorting people out who even bring out their cell phone for a second. Beware. I was at the late show and was lucky enough to get a VIP wristband (I showed up around 7:45-8:00). I thought the show was really great.. After seeing many forum sampler sets it was nice to see him use the sampler as a tool to create interesting versions of songs rather than just a gimmick to run through some hits. The band accompanied him on most of the "sampler" songs so I really don't think it was a cop out. Just my opinion I guess. Anyway, setlist ... What I can remember and in vague order Let's go crazy Endorphinemachine Screwdriver Liathatch? Some instrumental I didn't recognize. She's always in my hair I could never take the place Sometimes it snows (guitar version) Guitar Bambi Fixyourlifeup Cause and effect Plectrum electrum -Encore Totally blanking on the first song right now Sampler set (only including semi full songs played) When doves cry Sign o the times House quake Forever in my life Pop life Love bizarre How come you don't call me (solo piano) Nothing compares Purple rain [Edited 5/8/13 8:37am]

so no set lists yet? sheesh lol. Prince and this no cell phone/camera policy is a win/lose. on the one hand it makes people pay attention to whats going on and not a sea of people holding phones up the whole time. but on the other hand, no pics, no set listsm on the spot updates AND NOT BOOTLEGS

^^ yes, people definitely got escorted out, no joke. But there was ample warning that they would do so, so there was no use arguing when they got to you. I think that's certainly contributing to lack of memory of what happened, and lack of posts.

I'm sure there will be an accurate set list on princevault or something soon.
Til then: Let's Go Crazy Endorphine Machine Screwdriver - don't really like this song recorded, but great live. Typical story with many of his songs, much much better live. The new songs that people know about, but don't remember the order - 2Y2D, Breakdown, Fixurlifeup I Can Never Take the Place of Your Man I Like it There Cause and Effect She's Always in My Hair - this was long and very good When We're Dancing Close and Slow - this was long and very, very good Bambi Little Red Corvette Purple Rain U Got the Look - Nicole Scherzinger came on stage with him for this Observations: -Wow, he's really great on guitar, especially when he makes it sound sexy, and so upclose! And the sound was great, no ringing ears afterwards. Show was short, but definitely worth it for me to be so close and get to hear and see everything. -The girl in the video backdrop on Screwdriver looked like Mayte dancing. -He didn't dance around much, but there were glimpses of his old moves, like spinning in place holding the guitar. -The audience was a really, really eclectic bunch, and there was arguing before the concert even started. There were at least two people who looked about 70 yrs old, and some in their 20s, and everything in between. I haven't been to too many concerts ever, but there's usually a certain type that goes to a certain performer. The Prince crowd certainly cannot be typecast! It looked like there was nothing in common but Prince. And even that's debatable. Btw, this was the early show, and there was no sampler. [Edited 5/8/13 9:25am]

SCREWDRIVER ... He began by playing his "lyric" video and asked us if he could lip sync one song because everyone else was doing it. I'm assuming that's a reference to Beiber. As far as the late gig, for me, EVERYTHING worked. The set-list, the band, the stage show. Was it worth the price? I got about 100 minutes of watching him at his at his musical essence . IMO, this was better than the first Troubadour gig... So my answer is ¡YES!
