Prince to perform South By South West Conference

via Twitter

And here's a web report:

http://austinist.com/2013...o_secr.php

Appears to be true:

http://www.hitfix.com/imm...rm-at-sxsw

The rumors are true: Prince is set to take the stage at the South By Southwest music conference for the first time. The Purple One is getting a specially remodeled stage at La Zona Rosa in downtown Austin, a source confirmed to HitFix.

The festival this year is already boasting music's biggest names like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Flaming Lips and Dave Grohl's Sound City Players, but Prince's concert will be bursting from its own seams with a 22-piece band. Prince hits the stage late Saturday night.

Furthermore, fest-goers should keep their eyes peeled for a certain awards show held during music festivities in Austin this week: His Royal Badness is slated as a "special guest" at the podium.

No word yet on how badge -holders or fans get access to the concert, stay tuned.

Prince William and Prince Paul are performing (separately) on March 16...no mention yet of the purple one.

22 piece band?? WHY!!?? I will definately take a pass on this horn fest. That doesnt sound good at all. Sounds like it makes it too easy for Prince to take the night off. I HATED the Chicago show I saw with the horn section. So much for the stripped down 4 piece band idea. I guess he is bored with that already

3. Can I buy a one-day pa... Festival?

Unfortunately, we do not sell single session or single day passes to the event. As compared to other technology events, the low registration price of the SXSW Interactive Festival makes for an extraordinary value. Even if you are only able to attend for one or two days, the amount of information and networking opportunities afforded by the event make the registration price a bargain.

Where did you see that at? Unless SXSW is going to make a special exception for Prince, the FAQ sheet states that they don't sell single event or one day passes...

Crap, I don't remember which site now. I've been scouring Hitfix, musicscene, and all the twitters of SXSW pr etc... I know I only read that once, and it was from a sxsw pr quote, so maybe it's not reliable info?

The dollar must be worth nothing if we take that statement seriously.

Please compare to the 2010 pricing of Superbock in Spain.

People who generally go to SXSW don't go for one concert. For music alone there are about 15hrs of events per day (concerts, workshops, speakers), and if you spring for the All Inclusive Badge (adding film, and interactive events too) then it's even more stuff. I've always wanted to go to SXSW, but....

For those who do go ... Austin is a parking lot even with just regular traffic, so add lots of extra time for travel to your destination.

Exclusive: Prince Will Headline Samsung's SXSW Closing Party

arrow http://mashable.com/2013/...msung-part

AUSTIN — South by Southwest will get a dose of purple rain. Samsung exclusively confirmed with Mashable that Prince will perform at its March 16 closing party.

"Having Prince in Austin at his first SXSW show will truly be a one night only experience that our Samsung Galaxy owners and friends will remember for years to come," Todd Pendleton, Samsung's chief marketing officer, told us.

While the private Saturday night show will wrap up Samsung's heavy #TheNextBigThing tech and entertainment presence at SXSW, it will be tied to its TecTile Wall initiative in which owners of NFC-enabled Galaxy devices could tap tiles to unlock rewards.

Samsung will choose 250 TecTile Wall participants to attend the intimate show.

"Prince is a legend and true creative and musical genius who has been innovating and pushing the boundaries of music for over 35 years," Pendleton said. "Prince’s live shows are always phenomenal and I’m sure we’ll be in for some fun surprises on Saturday night."

Prince, who recently graced the cover of Billboard's first newly designed magazine and released new music, will receive the Billboard Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards on May 19. Prince's last album — his 34th studio album — came out in 2010.

Prince caps off Samsung's lineup of musical acts that spanned Interactive, Film and Music, including The Roots, Band of Horses, Talib Kweli, and Mayer Hawthorne.

Among Samsung's digital activations is a popular battery swap where people could tweet #PowerOn and their location to @SamsungMobileUS to receive a new fully charged battery from a bike messenger. At the company's main daytime lounge — Samsung Galaxy Experience (open 12 to 6 p.m.) — people could make personalized T-shirts and buttons using the S Note. A Music Hub station allows guests to try Music Hub, listen to SXSW artists on it and S Beam songs to their devices.

Interesting collaboration, will be interesting to see if it goes further, to a special edition purple Samsung phone.

Anyone eligible to actually go and will you have to check your phone at the door??

As a matter of principle I resent these exclusive, last minute shows for the chosen few. It has something arrogant about it.

It makes sense for him I suppose: gets paid the big bucks for a one off, tries out his new band, keeps the mystery alive. And he can hang around Andy Allo.

If I was anywhere near Austin I would try to get in. sigh

Yeah it is kind of annoying, but I'm not mad at him.

He does not have a record label that can front him money for real marketing strategies, or have a real marketing department that can devise proper PR strategies.

He cannot get radio play for his current music.

He eviscerated his own presence on the internet over the past 6 to 7 years due to multiple site domain changes, on again/off again sites, and relentless legal challenges/cease and desist to youtube postings (which oddly enough ARE today's radio).

If there is anything Prince needs for his new projects is exposure. And as much as we may like it, he is not going to get that by playing in some hole in the wall club for die hards. Or even in stadiums where he performs his "hits for the last time."

SXSW has become the premiere new media/new music/new film festival... it will give him great visibility. Will he do anything with it? *Shrug*

But he needs to be there in order to keep the buzz needed for he seems to be trying to do with his music these days.
