so, now the shows are over ... back in 2002 I paid $250 for 7 shows at the Paisley Park Celebration.

Since the Dakota shows are considered to be a kind of mini celebration, is the price of going to see all 6 shows ranging from $ 740 - $ 940 too much, for these relatively short shows ???

Is this what DrFunkenberry meant, when he asked what we are willing to pay for a celebration ??

Whilst the recent shows clearly seem to be interesting, inspiring at times, and with merit (certainly compared to his big arena performances), I suspect the reality of the escalating price is simply another sign that Prince's earlier argument against Warner Brothers, that business and art don't mix, is ironically ringing true, but this time around with Prince learning to operate like the record company/commercial tour operator/business minded entrepreneur. Thus, the business model appears to come first in Prince's mind nowadays, given that he seems clear that he "has to" operate a financially lucrative deal, before the art comes into play. Hence, the first thing he seemingly wants to know from his hardcore fanbase nowadays is how much they are willing to pay for their experience. It was a badly timed question, which was also in poor taste (in my opinion).

Considering all the tickets were sold, I'd say the answer is "No, the price wasn't too high".

It´s all relative. I think the Dakota shows were way too expensive, and the setlists, albeit interesting, don´t really justify such prices, especially the loose jam sessions without any singing.

That being said, Prince IS up there with Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, David Bowie and all those other legends, and as bad as it is, you know those folks would charge much,much more than Prince for such intimate shows.

I think in the end it is your money, and you´ve been there so you know whether it was worth it.

Personally, I think NO Prince event could ever compare to the 2002 Celebration at Paisley Park.

I don't think that is what Dr. F was referring to. Somewhere last week it was stated that Prince is redoing the soundstage area at PP, and Fox 9 reported that Prince's promoters told them that more shows may be announced this spring and summer. I personally don't feel that the prices were too much, considering some of the Welcome 2 shows people were paying 500.00 to be at the tables around the stage. It was nearly impossible to get tickets to more than one of these Dakota shows, if any at all.

The only way I'd pay $250 for a show at Paisley Park would be if it were a show with a Saturday 11 p.m. setlist and I could bring in my own chair.

The 3-hour 2009 show was awesome, but it darn near killed me. (Standing on that concrete floor is no joke on old joints like mine.) I could deal with it for a $31 ticket, though. $250? Not so much.

$940 for 6 shows sounds a lot but the venue was a very intimate one and I'd have been hard pressed to pass it up if I lived nearby.

But then I compare it to the other end of the scale in 2007 at the O2. I spent £374.53 for 12 main shows and £225 for 7 aftershows, of which Prince performed at 7, so I got 19 Prince shows for £599.53, which is about $949 at current rates.

$940 for 6 seems very expensive but $949 for 19 was an absolute bargain.

Those ticket prices are high, especially compared to the very reasonable £31.21 ($50) ticket prices to the 02 concerts in London and the fact it was meant to be a 'rehearsal'......

I hope the fans on Funkenberry's show didn't all say 'oh we'll pay whatever for a celebration' because these high Dakota prices is exactly what will happen and no-one from outside Minny will be able to afford it on top of travel and we'll all have u to blame!!!!!!

is he talking about holding whatever....in the original building at Paisley or the concert shell that he built a few years ago? Didn't he construct some egg-shaped dome for the purpose of future concerts? Whatever happened to that?

it's less than $200 per show, with great seats. And the show is one that very few people will get to see

Plus, all 6? I would not even be interested in seeing all 6 shows if I could afford it!

I think they meant it would be in the soundstage area, since it was being redecorated. Not sure what "concert shell" you're referring to, the dome thing is the only addition to Paisley Park that was ever added, but it is way too small for any type of event.

On my way to the Dakota, someone offered me $550 for each of my two tickets before the concert. I told this person that the tickets were will call only and that, even if they weren't, I still probably wouldn't have sold the tickets anyhow.

I have seen Prince at Paisley Park countless times for as low $7 or less. I have payed over $100 a few times too. These shows ranged in structure from loose jam sessions with minimal singing, to full blown concerts complete with costume changes, and choreography.

The setlists/vibe/effort/fun had at Dakota was/were comparable to a standard Prince aftershow (if there is such thing.)

To me, it was worth the money just because I had never seen Prince in a venue as intimate as the Dakota. It is more intimate than the smallest stage at Paisley Park, and all of the celebrations there, and more intimate than First Ave on 7/7/07.

I was at that 2009 show too, and yes that floor was a killer. I think at some point I just sat down in the middle of the crowd while we were waiting for him to hit the stage.

I remember a few days into the 2002 Celebration after enough people had complained about the standing, Prince got chairs put in--phew!

Exactly how intimate is Paisley Park celebrations? At the moment I expect it to cost around the same amount as his after-parties. So around $80 for general admission and under $250 for balcony?

If Prince turned up in the UK and played a tiny club for that price i'd be all over it and wouldnt think it was expensive at all.

If that was the price to see him with 20,000 others then yeah i'd kick off but for this I think its fine.

I saw Prince play at Mayte's 21st birthday party at Paisley Park in the atrium on a riser that was about a foot off the floor and no more than 50 people in the room. I was front and center and he handed me a tambourine that I still have. For free with birthday cake! I paid 100.00 for the Beautiful Experience ticket the same year and that didn't seem that outrageous at the time.

I was just posting the price of the Purple Rain tickets for shits and giggles. I ,by no means, expect his tickets to be anywhere near the same now.

Most people wouldn't really need to see more than one show. If you are the kind of person that needs to see every minute of every initimate show, then prepare to shell out large.

If the question is - is the highest price of $250 too much for one show, then I'd say it's relative. Lots of acts are charging more than that for decent/ mediocre seats in sports arenas. I probably couldn't spend that much on one night's entertainment for ANY show at this point. And it would bum me out to be left outside.

But the mentality today is, if you can get it, you're a fool to ask for less and leave money on the table.

to see prince in an intimite place like this it is worth the money...

I wasn't willing to shell out $250 for even 1 of the Friday shows so yes, $940 is too much for all of it.

However, I'm happy with what I got. $150 for Thursday was a bit steep but it's been a few years since I have seen him play and we had a great time.

I'd probably pay more for a true celebration than I did for the last one, but not much more.

Fans do a lot of crazy things to see him. I've stood in the freezing cold for a few hours outside of Glam Slam West for the posibility of getting in and the posibility of him even playing. I guess it is all relative. If you can afford it, do it. If you don't have a job, then it sounds pricey! lol
