from the outset, they said there would be aftershows with the band playing, and prince would join in at times. they made it clear he wouldn't play at every show. this is entirely differnt from the mainshows where he was both advertised and contracted to play. if he hadn't played the mainshows you would have a point, but he played them all and there were no guarantees about the aftershows
the first night you mentioned, he didn't go to party with p diddy or matt damon and julia stiles who were also there, he just went to china whites, and refunds were offered for that night too

Please be aware that I am Dutch and very much about the money. Prince played two out of three IndigO2 nights every week, at least that was what I experienced. Why still make a fuss about that more than five years down the line? Do you think it will help mr P change his ways? I've paid more and stood in chilly lines for longer than at the IndigO2.
If you are physically unconfortable and then start complaining about the money: do not do it. Stay at home.
How many of you peasants sat at the Cannes aftershow? (I do not mean them feudal seats with them waiter-security boys) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Where from the outset was it stated that Prince may not play the aftershows? It did not say that on the ads or ticketmaster when purchasing tickets on the opening day of ticket sales, I'm sure they were advertised as 'enjoy one of Princes legendary aftershows' or something like that, anyone who go's to a Prince gig has heard about the aftershows, so would be expecting a performance, it only became clear later when they rebranded them 'Afterpartys' after selling tickets, then the gigs started and he started skipping aftershows.
As for where Prince ended up the Saturday night, doesn't matter to me where he went or who with, Prince should have been at the aftershow for the fans who paid for an aftershow. Any refund only covers tickets, not cost of travel/hotels etc, its not really about getting a refund, more about what Prince should do. [Edited 1/5/13 11:35am]

My point is just my experience on the aftershows, I was probably unlucky to goto 2 aftershows and get 2 no shows. Its not particularly about the money, I paid £500 for me and a friend to attend 1 night in VIP, so £25 doesn't really matter that much to be honest without sounding flippant, I have paid allot more money attending Prince gigs around the world.
I'm more complaining about Prince's attitude towards his fans and commitments, if I pay for something, I expect to get it, I would rather he played half the aftershows and charge £100 a ticket with a guarantee of an aftershow performance by him, then you know what your paying for.
If I am at a main concert and hear a rumour of an aftergig like you used to through Eileen Murton, then you know your taking a chance turning up at a club, he may/may not appear, you may not be alloowed in etc, so you make a decision on that, but when they sell tickerts as 'aftershows', then you expect an aftershow.
I do not expect Prince to change his ways/attitude, would be nice if he did but it aint gonna happen, but I'm sure most fans know how he rolls now and just enjoy him for what he is.

it was mentioned in a press release. on the same note, the ad's and ticketmaster sales didn't say he would be playing the aftershows

I don't recall any press releases to that effect, though I hardly follow the press anyways, I would have thought if that was stated, it should also have been stated on the website when selling tickets and in the ticket adverts, which it was not. Its a strange ticket sale where you buy a ticket for a Prince aftershow and Prince may not have anything to do with it !!!
Bit of a pointless argument really, I think if Prince sells tickets for an aftershow, he should perform, you think its ok if he doesn't, we aren't going to change each others opinions.
Nice chat anyways

but they didn't say when selling the tickets that he would play. you just made an assumption that was incorrect. you just bought a ticket to something without knowing what you were going to get

The assumption being buying a ticket for a Prince aftershow, means you see a Prince aftershow. The tickets were sold as 'Prince - The Official Aftershow', that's why they started issuing refunds for the aftershows, under the trade descriptions act they knew they could be prosecuted if challenged.
Prince aftershows pre O2 mean't Prince played in my book, can you tell me any Prince aftershows pre 2007 where Prince did not attend?

They changed it to 'afterparty' after a few shows. i attended one partu without and one with Prince
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
that's the problem with assumptions
there are a few aftershows prince didn't attend before 2007 such as the first night of manchester ONA in 2002, there are others where he attended but didn't perform such as the click club in london 2002 on the first night where he went in the dj booth with his dj, and the embassy club the following night where he turned up but it was just like any typical nights music, i don't remember a single prince track player. he didn't play the final nights aftershow during the first celly (which was invite only but doug e fresh did a bit of freestyling) or the second one when the sound went off during nikka costas set. how many more do you want?

Weren't the ONA aftershows all part of being the NPG Music club? they did things like allowing members into the sound check and Q&A sessions etc? was never a member so I do not know how it worked.
The fact AEG/Ticketmaster had to make a press release after selling aftershow tickets that Prince may not perform, after Prince had started the run of shows, shows they probably mis-selled tickets, then they made refunds when buyers complained (myself included).
Here's the original press release that was reported on the BBC website, I also remember there was a radio 5 interview (was posted in the org forum atb the time the concerts were on) with fans about them being dissapointed about no-shows and with a music journalist who said it was not good, but as Prince was playing the O2 gigs so cheap at £31.21, that's took all the headlines for a good value show compared to the conert prices of likes of U2, Madonna etc, here's the news report :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...942963.stm
The comments on there are very similar to the conversation here, some fans saying its fine for Prince to not turn up/play at the aftershow, some people feeling cheated at wasting their time and money.
The fact is, these tickets were not sold correctly, there should have been a statement/disclaimer on the website from the opening date of sale that 'Prince may or may not perform at the aftershow', so take your chances, I then would not have been disappointed as I knew what I was buying, to make statements after selling tickets and the gigs have strarted is wrong.
At the time, the only thing I considered could have happened to cause this problem is that originally there was a set of concerts announced, which sold out quickly, so they they released another set of nights (including matching aftershows), making it 21 nights total, so maybe the original plan was to play less main concerts with aftershows, but then when they did th extra nights, Prince decided he wouldn't do all the aftershows.

ONA aftershows were included as part of NPGMC, so you didn't have to pay £25, but if you weren't a member you had to pay
there's no doubt there was confusion about the o2 aftershows, but they didn't advertise prince as playing and it was made known before the start that the aftershows would be the band playing and prince would join in when he wanted to
the original plan was for 21 nights in the main arena, not including aftershows and not at different vernues. it was just the way they released tickets to try and sell out so many nights at a time before putting more nights on sale. the first 6 nights sold out in minutes than another few were added and the last were added later on. the aftershow tickets all went onsale on a single day but at a later date
the 21 nights idea went back to the 3121 vegas time when rumours originally started about it

When he finally comes on stage all back pain is forgotten and forgiven. Just remember P is an artist. He has good and bad aftershows. He rarely even has "bad" shows like in Oberhausen. But who cares, he`s only human. I wouldn`t want to do his job - not for all the money. He cannot call in sick. I guess he is getting older, too - so let´s be more positive about aftershows. It´s great that he does them at all.
