Some high points (and those points were really high), but the low points made it a dud Spud. I'll elaborate more after I get some sleep.

I was a little concerned, since there's been nothing but crickets in here since about 20mins in
In any case, sleep well, and I'll be interested to read more when you (and everyone else) have had some rest.

There was something wrong with that performance? I had a tremendous time, and Janelle sounded excellent.
A little short, but glad I went for Housequake alone.

Wow!!!!! There was no one even close to where I was who thought that was nothing short of Amazing... P and the band killed the first half (loved Maceo) and Janelle brought it home. If you couldn't get down to that show u need 2 hang up ur dancing shoes...

^^ couldnt agree more. But I'd still like to hear PurpleChi's feedback Yesterday's setlist was amazing but Prince definitely interacted with the crowd more today(he looked so fly with his cane), and the instrumental jam he played with Maceo was mind-blowing! Andy performed People Pleaser and the performance overall was a lot better than Monday. She looked more comfortable & confident also. Shelby sang Brown Skin again just like yesterday. Though I thought it was a bit odd Janelle ended the show tonight (loved her Electric Lady performance, one of my favorite songs of hers), we were all waiting and thinking Prince was gonna come back on stage one more time maybe just to say good bye to Chicago or do something, (and because DJ kept asking us if we were tired yet and of course everyone was like "Hellll noooo....let's keep this party going all night long Prince!!" - at 3:30 a.m. lol) but the show ended there. Anyways, I had so much fun tonight and all thanks to Prince. Thank you for coming to Chicago!

Perfect assessment of last night (at least for me and others with me). I have nothing to elaborate on this. It is what it is, the night before was wonderful and i am glad I was along for this three days.
So much for partying til the sun comes up.

So basically, last night's afterjam was (roughly) the same as the main show Monday night, which I was at (the NAACP Vanguard jam).
Would like to have seen Janelle, but I'm glad I didn't plump for another night of tickets and hotel. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Thank you Prince and Chicago. Five shows in three days for me, including two after jams. I thought he was so on last night, with his cane flying around. In after shows I saw him do before, it was more as though we were witnessing a rehearsal or some private moment between the musicians. (Those I loved too but hell, I am besotted and have been for years.) smart of him to slither out leaving Janelle as a decoy. Considering how tired I was, he must have been done. Bit he was playful at the show and I liked seeing that up close. And I liked Shelby's piece. People complain about her and I do not get it.
Back to the Wild West (coast) for me. [Edited 9/27/12 9:03am] Philmoreliz

Sounds like Tuesday's main show and afterjam were really the highlights of the residency.

Okay, my earlier statement was a bit harsh, but let me explain. Prince's set was outstanding. The music that filled that place was just electrifying. The NPG set was about 45 min I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). They hit the stage at around 1:30. High points were everything Prince and the NPG performed, Maceo and Shelby (good Lord that girl saaannng Brown Skin, and the band--bananas). Here's where it got annoying for me:
If I hear People Pleaser one more time....I get it already. I'll concede that I possibly feel this way because I have heard that song performed more times than I would have ever wished for over the last four days. I'm just a little over it.
Secondly, I don't like it when others make a decision about my time and that's just what Prince did. He and Shelby came out there talking about we were going to "party til the sun comes up." What actually transpired was that the NPG did a short (but powerful) set. He exited stage left without even saying "thank you" and "good night." And why? Because he was probably tired and didn't want to get booed. I totally understand that he was tired, but so was I. But I was willing to stick it out for Prince. I think that he should have said good night to the crowd and told them to finish partying with Janelle Monae. I could have then just gone home. I had already been to the concert and seen Janelle Monae's performance. I didn't need to see it again.
What ended up happening was Prince made the best choice for himself and left everyone to figure it out. Had I known he was gone, I could have gone home and got a one hour jump-start on my own slumber. [Edited 9/27/12 11:16am]

Yeah, pretty much. Tuesday United Center show was phenomenal as was the afterjam. Wednesday night afterjam was kinda lame. If I hear Andy sing People Pleaser one more time I'm gonna hurt someone. Band is funky, but her singing is so contrived. Anyhow, it was awesome to see Maceo take a couple of solos. He looked delighted to be there. Janelle Monae and her band were great too. After that it fell apart. Why have a DJ keep asking if we are tired and if we still wanted to party all night, when everybody already left? No "thank you, goodnight" or even a "I'm hoarse and can't sing anymore so one more jam and we gotta go". Kinda cold to leave folks out there 30 minutes and then open the curtain to show packed up instruments. I talked to some House of Blues folks and they said Prince never got the okay to play all night and they still had to close before 4am. Don't know if that's really true. But with that, a lot of people started shuffling out pissed off.
Sidebar: As soon as you leave the House of Blues there's a small opening on the side of the building where if you peer down you can see the underground bus/artist pick up station. Andy was down there talking to some people and had a huge box next to her that contained what seemed to be unsold Allo merch. I found that hilarious for some reason. [Edited 9/27/12 11:01am]

Okay, you hit the nail on the head regarding Andy's voice. And that sidebar is hilarious!

Yeah, that's my impression, too.
I'm so glad I didn't stay for last night's shows. I could have had a main show ticket for $20, but would have needed another night of hotel and afterjam tickets - and I wasn't up for that, so headed home. As it turned out, the main show was pretty much the same as the Tuesday afterjam and last night's afterjam was pretty close to Monday night's main show (with the Vanguard jam). So basically, I'd already seen everything. And I love Janelle Monae, but I've seen her live since ArchAndroid was released - so there wouldn't have been anything new there, either.
My one regret is missing the main show on Tuesday evening. But the Tuesday afterjam was everything I could have hoped for (and more), so I'm more or less content. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I heard that! After hearing how stellar Tuesday night was, and having free tickets to the main show on Wednesday (from Mondays afterjam fiasco), I was really tempted to make my way down to Chi. Glad I didn't because I would have had to spend money I really don't have, and would probably have been disappointed that Wednesday didn't meet/top Tuesday. I'm glad that the last two days went well for people though! But like you Genesia, opening night NEVER again, and dayum I wish I coulda seen the events on Tuesday.

Janelle did three songs, including Tight Rope.
And Andy did People Pleaser.

Didn't Prince do Satisfied as well? I thought they did the whole set from NAACP/W2C Monday night? perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I'm amazed there's not much being said about housequake being played for the first time in 7 years? Did it sound pretty much like the NAACP version I take it?

I am shocked that there aren't more posts to this thread. Although, I know I had to recuperate from three nights of concerts and afterjams. The 9/26 afterjam was not as good as 9/25. Tuesday's show was just amazing. It felt like one of the legendary Prince aftershows that you read about or see random footage from. For me, Tuesday's show even topped the Vegas aftershows, which ranked as my favorite alongside First Avenue on 07/07/07. However, now First Avenue on 07/07/07 and HOB Chicago on 9/25/12 are my top aftershows for the music and vibe. With regard to experience, nothing beats Vegas (but that's another story).
That said, last night's show was still a good aftershow, especially for the price. Prince did come out and do the NAACP/Monday UC set, as has already been posted. I thought the band sounded great. Shelby and Liv were excellent on their lead duties. My only complaint about this was that since he had already performed this set on Monday at the main show, it would have been nice to get a different set of music for the final Chicago performance. He said they had rehearsed 300 songs, so it would have been a treat to hear some different ones, especially some non-mainstreams Prince treats like he delivered the night before with Jam of the Year and Days of Wild. I still can't get over that one. Shelby even repeated "Brown Skin" from the night before. She did kill it the second time around. However, it would have been cool to hear her do something else.
I absolutely loved Housequake, though it was so packed I couldn't dance like I wanted to with drunks that swarmed around me.
During the instrumental jams, Prince seemed to really be enjoying himself, which I enjoyed seeing. He interacted with the crowd up front a lot as well. I loved seeing Maceo out past bedtime jamming with the kids at the afterjam as well. The instrumental grooves were tight. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As one guy next to me said, it was great because the band got to spread their wings and stretch out a bit.
Janelle Monae did a good job closing things out. I liked the way she did Electric Lady. Her band sounded great in that size venue.
The complaints
My only real problem with this show was the way Prince vanished. I expected him to come out and bid a proper farewell as he did the previous night. I don't understand why he didn't do that. IT WAS THE FINAL NIGHT of a three-day Chicago run. I understand him not wanting to do it before Janelle's performance because half the place would have instantly dipped if he announced his exit. However, after three nights, the least he could have done was to come out and do his best Russel Simmons - "Thank ya'll for coming out. Good night." he didn't have to play another note. The man gave us so much over the last three days that he had to be tired. Still, I didn't like that it took about 15 minutes after Janelle left the stage for the call to be made that the night was over. Why was the DJ still playing music? Why the confusion? It was very anti-climactic and buzz killing. That should not happen again. Folks deserve better than that. Tell us the night is over. Period!
Andy Allo - Did I really need to hear "People Pleaser" four times over the last four nights? I get that Prince has a crush on her. He said it last night when she finished performing. She's a pretty girl. But she is NOT funky! If you are going to hold us hostage with that song every night, at least let Shelby or Liv or someone with a voice that is better suited for that funky arrangement of it sing. "When Stars Collide" sounded great, but Andy's vocals are just too weak for larger clubs and stadiums. Get that girl back to coffee houses and lounges and let her be her. She is not a funk goddess. She is not Sheila E. reincarnated. She is a pretty girl from Sacramento who used to play acoustic guitar and sing barefoot in hoodies and jeans.
This final complaint has nothing to do with Prince. However, I have to vent about all the drunks in the HOB last night. The crowd where I was behind the soundboard was simply awful. I camped out back there all three nights. Monday and Tuesday were fine. Last night I felt like I was in a bar in Wrigleyville, which is not a good thing. Drunken idiots were passing out, fighting, being disrespectful. I couldn't believe I was at a Prince show. It was a real downer. That crowd sucked! The Tuesday night crowd knew the songs and sang. We had one big party back there. Last night some fool was in front of me yelling for Raspberry Berry and Kiss at an aftershow. Seriously? I could not stand it.
So, nothing topped Tuesday's afterjam. However, it was still a good night musically. I feel I got my money's worth with my 3-day pass. Prince just needs to learn how to be a better host and tell his guests when the party is over. Dag, what is Damaris doing? Isn't the word hostess next to her name in the tour book?
