Prince adds third concert to his "Welcome 2 Chicago" residency:

http://www.stltoday.com/e...f6878.html

Prince has announced a third show for his "Welcome 2 Chicago" residency at the United Center in Chicago.

The third show is Sept. 26. The show will go on sale at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The previously announced shows are Sept. 24 (sold out) and Sept. 25.

Doors are at 7 p.m., with the shows at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $49.50-$149.50 and will go on sale at livenation.com and through Ticketmaster outlets.

The tour is in support of Rebuild the Dream, a mobilization of everyday people who come together to build strong vibrant communities and to fix our economy from the ground up. On site at the United Center, Prince and Rebuild the Dream will offer opportunities to learn about, support, and take part in rebuilding vibrant and sustainable communities.

In a statement, Van Jones, co-founder and President of Rebuild the Dream, said “We couldn’t be more excited about partnering with a legend like Prince,” said c “Our economic system is broken. Rebuild the Dream exists to unite arts and organize into a potent force to support the Dreams of Our Communities. There are few artists who have Prince’s unwavering commitment to a vision of a sustainable, fair economic future.”

Also get information at rebuildthedream.com.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Interesting... The two Madonna shows here locally at a major venue are completely sold out--even the nosebleed seats. I guess even for major performers like Prince and Madonna, it really depends on the cities, venue locations within cities, and dates of performance which determine whether or not they will sell all seats in arena venues. BTW when Prince came here locally last year the shows were completely packed--if there were any empty seats I certainly didn't see any! lol

Also, I should have qualified my "warning" in regard to the W2A concerts at the Izod in 2010 by adding that the concerts which followed those at Madison Square Garden were a complete success in comparison to those held at the Izod in New Jersey. Similarly, the concerts held at the Oracle Arena in Oakland were completely packed--if there were any empty seats, they were few and far between. In a similar fashion, the Forum in LA, on the last two W2A dates in May 2011, were completely packed and the crowds on both nights raised the roof off of the old building. lol

Thanks for sharing your experience! I hope the third night in Chicago sells well too and I'm sure it will. Omg I just cannot wait! 2 more weeks and it's PARTY 3 NIGHTS IN A ROW!!

Hey Gang... has any one else noticed that on Ticketmaster it says the doors open at 5 p.m????

Is't that a tad early.. considering Prince is hardly EVER on time...??
He shows is suppose to start at 8 but he is normally close to an hour late??

Wonder if this was a typo by Ticketmaster??

There's a restaurant in the United Center. They probably open so people can just eat dinner there, if they want - rather than trying to find another restaurant nearby.

I am curious as to what city you are in when you say "here locally" because Madonna's shows for Sept. 19 and 20 are not sold out here in Chicago. I just checked and there are still premium seats available on TM. Unlike Prince's shows where you can only find 300 level seats on TM, there are choice 100 level seats there for Madonna. I pulled section 102 row 19 seats 8 and 9, which is a great view at the United Center for her stage set up. The tickets are $373 each.

I also see that StubHub has twice as many tickets available for Madonna's shows at the United Center than it does for Prince. Madonna's tix went on sale in February. Prince's went on sale last week. They are playing the same venue, but Prince has more seats because of his stage set up. So it seems that Prince's shows have sold better than Madonna's in terms of actual ticket sales. She will gross more because her tix cost twice as much. However, I think he has done well for his two dates in Chicago given the short notice and nights of the week he's performing.

BTW, I was at the last NJ show on Friday night and the MSG show on Saturday. The NJ show was pretty crowded. I saw empty seats here and there on the 100 level but nothing major. As we know, MSG was sold out. I had a great time at both shows, and I know I will have a great time at both Chicago shows as well. Chicago gets up for Prince. Remember he did five sold out shows at the Allstate Arena during the Musicology tour. He announced that tour months in advance and had premiums nights of the week. I will never forget seeing him on a Saturday night and how loud the audience sang that part of Little Red Corvette - "It was Saturday night . . . . Awwww, the memories. biggrin

Bellanoche, I just love this post. It is such a reminder of how in-demand Prince really is. What is funny is that people on here claim that Prince is so out-of-touch because he's not on YouTube, but apparently the rest of the world didn't get the memo. Anytime someone can pull off the sales Prince pulls off without a current album, video, etc. and within mere weeks of an arena performance speaks to his relevance in today's culture. Madonna, Sade and other similar artists had to put tickets on sale months (I think Sade was a full year) beforehand. Prince is truly special in that regard.

why is there always a desperation by some on here to show how few tix are shifting. There's still over a week to go, there's been no promo, no video, no big hit single or album and the tix still appear to be shifting. Even the most hardened critic cannot fail to be impressed that he pulls this off 'most of the time' - not always!.

Good luck to him, he will rightly do the usual hits show as this is NOT a series of gigs for the hardcore - again some fans just don't get it. Oh and don't bring that shit about in 84 & 86 70% of the show was from a new album nonsense - he's in a different place now with a back catalogue that the masses want to hear. If I see Elton, Stevie, the stones etc I wanna hear the hits -simples!

I honestly believe a large group of Prince's fans want his arena booking potential to crumble so he'll be forced to do small clubs and venues from now on. Hence he'd more than likely be playing to his smaller hardcore fanbase and not the casual fanbase that fills arenas. The fact that LiveNation is working with him(almost 2 years in) and he can still book arenas without having a new CD to push or a hit single on the charts speaks to that not happening anytime soon.

yeahthat

These are facts and proof everyone wrong who say Prince is no longer relevant or whatever else they like to claim. - Just because he is not doing what they expect and want him to do. He is successful, and that should make any Prince fan happy. But some people on here are the strangest sort of "fans" I have ever encountered anyway ... no matter, all power to Prince, he is doing it right!!!! biggrin

That's a good idea. Then I could combine the Prince concert with a family trip to Disney World.
