"Only One" Many of you who have seen P live know that he uses the term "Only One" all the time. I was just wondering if he was the first person to use this term, because I've heard D'Angelo use it before. I know P used it long before D, but maybe someone like James Brown used it before P. 2 whomever it may concern, u must come 2 ur senses. There r no kings on this Earth, only princes.

I wouldn't have thought so
I am sure I've heard references to the "On the one" from James Brown, Parliament, Funkadelic and Bootsy Collins to name but a few.
Delve deeper and you'll find Prince ain't that original, he's taken bits from all the major fuck artists for himself..and I'm not being critical...in fact..it was a masterstroke.

only one, whuwhwuahaha
its on the one, and its common to use in funk music. Live its used to let the band know to stop at the one of the beat.
Its also used often to describe the groove of funk, cuz it al comes down to the one. You betta ask Bootsy!
The first one you could have figured out yourself though, as you heard it many times in live shows.

It's not "Only one" it's "On the One". It orginates from James Brown.
First appearance of this style was on "Out of Sight" in 1964. Many many artists have talked about "The One" since then - Prince is just one of those.
Here's a link to one of the masters of The One, Bootsy, explaining it
