Mick Jagger was on SNL last weekend, nearly 69 years old and still rocking it, I would say Prince will be touring for quite some time yet No doubt. I didn't say he would stop, just that it wouldn't be the same. Apart from stylistic changes like eliminiating the sleaze which made him fmous, Prince no longer jumps around and does the splits while dancing for example. It's just about being realistic. Anyone thinking otherwise is just being an unrealistic mf. If the past is a model for the future then it'll be ten years later that Australia will get another tour. I would love it if he came every year or every other year but then that would be unrealistic like the comment above.

Of the 3 shows I saw this time around, I think this was probably the best. Setlist from princevault
http://princevault.com/in..._May,_2012
Start was similar to the second Sydney show
DMSR Pop Life Musicology - played bass instead of guitar Take Me With U Raspberry Beret Cream Cool/Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough Angel I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man She's Always In My Hair Controversy Let's Go Crazy Delirious - Let's Go Crazy reprise 1999 Purple Rain How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (intro only) The Ladder - First verse Sample Set Kiss
Dance (Disco Heat) Baby (I'm A Star)
If I Was Your Girlfriend The Bird
Let's Work U Got the Look Peach
Love Thy Will Be Done Mountains The Dance Electric
Pretty fuckin' great.
They were soundchecking pretty late - maybe 7pm. I heard them doing Controversy and She's Always In My Hair. Not sold out but more full than I expected, although there was a pretty large section on the floor near the top right of the circle of the symbol that was unsold. He looked in a party mood and did a lot of jumping and dancing. Looking at the setlist he didn't really do any ballads. A little thing - his shoe was getting caught on his trousers a couple of times. I thought the sound on the whole was pretty good. So glad I got to hear that awesome version of ICNTTPOYM, He was maybe having a little trouble with tuning his guitar on stage, he was adjusting it himself a bit through the middle of the show (maybe during Let's Go Crazy) After Delirious comes back into Let's Go Crazy he was kinda walking around expecting his guitar to be there and had to motion strumming guitar like 'where's my guitar?' I think 1999 was supposed to go into Little Red Corvette but he cut it and took a little time and then had the longish intro for Purple Rain, I'm guessing while they sorted out the guitar.
When he started playing The Ladder just voice and piano I was like Would have been great to have a whole section of songs but it went into the Sampler Set. The first time I saw the Sampler Set I thought it was great - the third time not quite so much.
Great to hear If I Was Your Girlfriend, I think he kept saying to Morris "where's my leadline?" Before he played it, he said "We haven't got anymore hits. Nope no more" something like that
I really thought he was done after he played Peach and if he had hit the lights then, I think most would've gone home happy. There was a long wait and some left but the last 3 songs were worth staying around for. They announced the after party as people were leaving but I don't really know Brisbane well and having no idea where the hell the venue was, had an hour or so drive back to Goldy and broke as a joke and I figured it would be background singer-heavy I wasn't too fussed about missing it. Still a great night.

60+ year olds can still play the guitar & travel on planes, trust me I know - my dad does it. He also rides his bike to work, mows the lawn & votes. They're just like us regular people

From reports it was a great aftershow too. I thought about going, but there's always a risk that he doesn't get too involved and two concerts were enough. The setlist is on Prince Vault.
I think I had a better frame of mind for this concert and Prince helped that with his party mood. My ticketed seat was in Row Y of the Silver with the stiffs (I was the only one standing), but it only took me a couple of songs to move myself down to some people dancing in the gold section. Great decision; as I had so much fun.
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man was very good. "Don't abuse children, or else they'll turn out like me."

Cool I am gald he gave you Brizzy people a decent show, good set list, just missing one song, he may have done if given another encore. I think we know the certain song from the mid 90s. Anyway you guys got If I was ur girlfriend and the Sylvester classic Dance (Disco Heat) thats pretty cool. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

So kicking myself for missing this show, I was very close to attending as there were many good tickets left but i couldnt afford the flight up + the ticket price.. Damn if i only i had more money!!
it looks incredible from the setlist.. U guys even got The Bird and abit of THE LADDER (!!!) for fucks sake. and dont even mention the aftershow!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
*cough* Aftershow...
And you do know he played The Bird at the main show AND the aftershow??? The aftershow venue even had a balcony at the sides of the hall so people were doing the dance moves up on the balcony just like in Purple Rain!

Dude, I WENT to the main show. I had a RIDE. They TOLD us where it was. I had the MONEY for the entry fee. I'm just sitting here thinking why the fuck was I just like "Oh, it's a bit cold. Probably won't get a park. Don't really know exactly where it is. I'm a bit tired. Girls will probably do most of the singing. Nah fuck it. Won't bother." Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!

So he played a snippet of Extraloveable as part of the sampler set and nobody gives a detailed description here? How was it? Was it the old version or the new one? Which parts did he sing? If it was the old version....that must feel weird to hear it live, in perfect quality.
How was The Ladder? The Dance Electric? Were those decent renditions or just a few lyrics from those songs? I read above that he only did the first verse of The Ladder. Was it good? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
ok Prince, time to come home now.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
My detailed description of Extraloveable would be that it was unrecognisable. He may have played a beat from it for 4 bars or something like that but I certainly didn't go "WOW Extraloveable!" Certainly no lyrics - he didn't sing any part of it.
The Ladder was pretty much exactly the same as that Lovesexy (?) LA rehearsal version from the Omnibus doco that people have been jerking off over since it was broadcast. Like I said The last 3 songs were also played at the first Sydney show including Dance Electric. They were among the highlights of that first show. I think they were slightly less extended this time around but it was great to hear them again.
