WOW what an amazing show last night. Out of the 3 Melbourne shows last night was the best, great setlist, crowd and Prince was loving it.

I was with 2 Prince newbies who were simply blown away, one is a musican who was left speechless.

What I loved is both of them said it was like one huge party all night. Wasn't it just!

Would have preferred he didnt finish with Kiss but other than that, a truly unbelievable show.

Absolutely phenominal show. The best i have ever seen. I'm totally speechless! He was in a great mood and the crowd went totally off!

I don't think there has ever been a concert of Prince's where somebody hasn't said this. Even at a weak Prince show, somebody will say this. I would add that even at some of the worst Prince shows I have been to....there is some kind of aura about them that make them seem better than they really were. Now I think that some of the One Nite Alone shows in 2002 more than lived up to the hype, but even though I enjoyed myself at the 2011 shows, Shelby was too overwhelming on too much of a less than 2 hour show. Still, it seems some of the Los Angeles shows and at least one of the Down Under shows were epic.

Disclaimer: A weak show for Prince is still better than most concerts, but when you have a master musician with Prince's intelligence having someone as talented as Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up," at the top of her lungs over 50 times...it borders on self-parody and is quite annoying.

After having no luck in seeing the aftershows in Sydney or Brisbane, sad i have decided to fly down to Melb to see the last concert and (fingers crossed) an aftershow. WOOHOO!! biggrin

I have got the worst GOLD seat in the house eek , however i wouldn't want to miss this for the world!

To those who know the Rod Laver Arena, if on the night it plays out to be similar to the last concert in Sydney with more than 3 encores. If im located at the last row at the back of the stadium, how long will it take me to run down to the purple circle biggrin LOL ( i need to plan on conserving energy during the night) LOL

Anyway, my wishlist would be for him to play LIVE 17 Days, Screams of passion and anotherloverholenyohead!

It would be great to meet you all so let me know of any org meetups,

Bring on the 30th!!

p.s

Any spare gud tickets around, please send them this way ! I would be so grateful lol LOL

Lovely to meet you! wave

it was like 30 seconds of darkin nikki intro in the sampler set to which he said "no, you can't make me sing that" ... there is a video of it on youtube, catch it before it gets reported

DFUNK

I'd like to thank the lady sitting near me who stormed off when the lights came on after controversy for the entertainment and sheer amusement.

Thoughout the night, it became blatantly obvious she was a casual fan, and she regularly whined that she didn't know many of the songs. At the end of Controversy she left in a huff, because the house lights came on and he hadn't performed that 1 song she desperately wanted to hear. "Its one of his biggest hits" she proclaimed. "How could he not sing it?"

She was talking about "Kiss". LOL

I went to two Prince shows, the 15th and the 30th. I really enjoyed both shows. I loved 'Days Are Wild' from the 15th. I wish Prince would play bass a little more live. Filmed the track completely, all 9-10 minutes of heavy funkrock bliss. I sat front row on the rail right near the tip of the stage, awesome...i shot that.

I also enjoyed the 30th, the crowd was loud, like a Motley Crue audience, real cool. I noticed that the houselights were on more than the last show. Managed to get my highlight of the evening in full just as a security guy noticed me filming 'Everyday People/Dance Electric'. Brilliant.

I did venture past the Arena cafe, but i'm a little on the shy side and wasn't sure what anyone would think 'Hi, are you in the Org?' . Wasn't sure what people would think if i asked a few people that. But you all looked like a fun bunch to talk to so i do apologize for not opening up. I'm glad that Prince did tour OzLand again after sooooo looooonnnggg. Come back soon. One last thing, did anybody find it a little weird that the 'Hits/B-Sides' was on sale at the concert despite it being nearly 20 years old. Man, i bought that back in '93. Great compliation for the newbies to check out.

I'm not a Prince newbie mate. I may not post anymore but I'm not some Johnny Come Lately to the Prince world. I've seen him in most of his Aussie shows since 1992.

Whilst nothing can compare to the aftershow at The Besement in 03 this was the single best concert performance I have seen from him. It was just great, pure and simple......imho opinion of course.

p.s. I'm not sure you meant to come off as condescending as it appears.

Nope, did not intend to come off as condescending. I also did not try to say you were a newbie. I see fans say this no matter if it is their first show, or their 100th show. If somebody has seen Prince over 100 times and says one of the recent shows is the best they have seen, then they must be overly emotional about it, and not clearly thinking. There seems to be an outpouring of "It was the greatest show ever," for any Prince concert. The show doesn't have to be great, and can sometimes be a lame medley show, or a show were 10 cover songs are done. It just seems there is this aura of a great feeling at a Prince show that sometimes may overtake someone's emotions to where it is impossible to judge how good a show it is.

Despite my constant bickering about Shelby's shouting and Prince's sometimes mumbling lyrics, or editing song lyrics, I feel this feeling at his concerts as well. It always seems a few days later, I realize I'm under some spell, and then I can better judge his performances with my honest opinion.

I think he's been going through the motions at around 65% of his shows since 2006 or so. He is still great for a moment or so each concert, but he seems like he's not willing to do the work anymore.

I've seen much older acts sing way more full length songs than Prince, and bust their ass a lot more. It's just nobody else has Prince's talent level and skill. Maybe I expect more from him due to this, but there is no way that 65 year old Elton John should be putting on a better show. Elton is quite talented, and does not need to work so hard, but it is his way. Prince is always saying real music by real musicians, and then he does the karaoke bullshit, when he could just perform one to two full length songs.

I've said a billion times over that Anotherloverholenyohead, Shh, Scandalous, If I Was Your Girlfriend, and a few other songs are almost always great on his recent tours. I wish he would do a show like the SOTT movie, where his vocals were clear, and other than LRC, the songs were full length. And I'm not just talking about the movie with all the overdubs. The bootlegs of just about any SOTT concert show he brought it every single night. Sure there were a few bad spots, like the way too long Beautiful Night, Purple Rain not having all the lyrics, and the awful "Go Go Go" crap during Let's Go Crazy, but the SOTT tour was so great in the great spots, I can easily forgive him for a few crap moments...

You know what? I've never had much time for that bit, but I took a few friends along to the second Melbourne show and one of them told me that the sampler set was his favourite part of the whole concert - a concert he also said was the best one he'd ever been to.

There are a few groups of Prince fans.

1. A large group of men and women who see Prince as this huge star, and are mainly there for the moment, want to be seen at the show with their new outfits on, and have huge interest in what his hair looks like, what outfits he is wearing, and who he might be dating. These fans love the sampler set, and think Shelby is best using her talent as she shouts endlessly into the mic. These fans think chord progression is the wires connecting the equipment at the show.

2. A fairly large group of serious fans who love every album until around 1992-1995. They hate most every album afterwards, but still fall under some sort of spell at his concerts, thinking his concerts are still awesome, even if Shelby sings lead on 10 cover songs.

3. A very small group that includes me, and many musician types, music theory students, etc, who love every single album, with maybe some denial about New Power Soul, but clearly sees that his tours after 2006 have become a big cheese fest with some brilliant moments but are sickened by Prince Karaoke, and are sad that a singer with Shelby's talents are turned into a Circus Clown by having her shout "Put Your Hands Up" to no end. These fans love the 2002 One Nite Alone Tour, and almost love the 2004 Musicology tour as much. These fans also believe that Prince is sometimes sadly simply Going Through The Motions on autopilot a good 45 minutes or so each show.

Despite these three groups of fans, there is another way to break up Prince fans, when their overall mentality is considered:

Group 1: This huge group thinks Prince is fantastic, every single thing he does is the greatest thing ever. I wish I had an autographed poster of Tony M, Damon Dickson, and Kirk J wearing their Star Trek Next Generation Uniforms Prince made them wear. I think the Wedding Feast is so wonderful!!! Can I get that bootleg 45 minute version of Life O The Party? That's such a great song!!! I just love the New Power Booty lyric on New Power Soul...I hope Prince makes a poetry book based on that song. I love it when Prince stops playing Prince songs and plays songs like Play That Funky Music. Is he going to bring Doug E Fresh back? I would just love that! (These are the people who have those framed motivational posters at the office that say "Destiny," etc. They love sayings like "Anything Is Possible." ( I want to go for a fly like Superman over the city, and then get 1000 women for a date tonight, but it is not possible.)

Group 2: This somewhat small but miserable group hates every single album released after 1995, starting with Chaos And Disorder. Some of them even hate every album after Batman. These people are so negative that the text on their prince.org posts actually appears to be different. They may not have actually listened to Chaos And Disorder, but they know they hate it. They continue to spend money on going to Prince shows, and complain that One Nite Alone was too serious, Musicology wasn't serious enough. They probably have a good opinion on Welcome 2 America, but ruin it by not even liking Prince's awesomeness on Anotherloverholenyohead, If I Was Your Girlfriend, etc.

Group 3: This very small group doesn't have an opinion formed before going to a concert, unless it is multiple shows on the same tour, and even then, this fan is hoping the show is better than the last one, no matter what they felt about the last show. This fan uses some strange ritual known as objectivity, and forms an opinion. They are not afraid to use glowing praise or harsh criticism when it comes to Prince. Everything isn't wonderful like Group 1, and Everything isn't terrible like Group 2. These weird people are allowed to make up their own mind, have a strong opinion, and even change it at times.

I'm pretty sure you are missing some groups!! lol JK..I think that this list is a good summary of fans. I would say I am in Group 3. I'm not afraid to speak out about something I do not like...But most often then not..I can find a gem in every album he has released. Everything is not bad and everything is not wonderful...I can flow with whatever motion Prince gives. I can make up my mind, and change it accordingly. You described it well! smile lol

I would be so grateful lol LOL

has anyone got fotos of this show??? i didn't take any, i was having such a good time.

We were in row A with nobody between us and the stage... Apart from one angry security guard who wouldn't let anybody take photos. It was a shame because we could see Prince so close to us and so clearly. I don't care for photos too much but a few ladies seated around us seemed upset by it.
