Well I'm at the back of the queue...took almost an hour getting away from the main show. At least four or five hundred people on front of me :)

And about twenty behind me since starting typing!

I feel a little bit shortchanged to be honest. There were some great moments, but maybe I just feel a bit hollow after waiting around for another encore that never came.

I'm going to hold off on my negative comments for now and think about this a bit more.

^ Once an aftershow was announced it was always gonna be kinda inevitable that the show would be shorter than some of the most recent ones

All about logistics for travel/ set up to next venue

Saying that - you had a great setlist - i'd love to experience Empty Room live once in my lifetime

The concert was so much fun!
Things I loved:
- it was like one big nightclub with awesome music
- It looked like Prince was enjoying himself (great 2 see)
- Prince's voice was amazing

Things that weren't so great, but still okay (cos its Prince)
- the sound wasn't that great (prob not his fault) I couldn't hear anything by Shelby. I wasn't even sure her mic was on
- too short a show. He didn't even play Little Red Corvette. Felt like he wanted 2 get out of there & go 2 his after show.
- after yelling & yelling trying 2 get him 2 do another encore he never came back... 2 encores & finishing at 10.30? Really? Was this the same for Sydney/Melb?

Either way I still enjoyed myself because he's a hot mf & he played my favorite song. I love him.

Oh yeah, I remember a few other really great things: the inspiring speech during Purple Rain about how we've got to love one another. Also, Andy McKee was amazing, I think it was a good idea of bringing him on tour.
I'm not sure why Damarus was there for though. Is she a dancer? How is she his muse?

I felt like Brisbane people were a bunch of stiffs. The people around me never got out of their seats & hardly screamed or shouted 2 encourage P to keep going. I'm surprised he's doing another show here & its sold out. Didn't look like many people knew what his songs were. I enjoyed myself & was dancing like a crazed maniac lol.

Review from the Courier Mail...http://www.couriermail.co...6360576172

And yeah, the people around me were a bit staid...particularly when he played non-singles like Shhh and Empty Room.

The aftershow? Now that was a completely different story smile

Sorry to hear that, answering your question, maybe the audience reaction was a bit flat, he did these long waits between encores in Melbourne and we got 5 but were expecting a 6th. He didn't come back and some one snapped at me as they abandoned their seats after the 4th encore, came back for the 5th, but 6th it was over. Maybe there was enough dancing and hollering from the crowd. U mention that people were like stiffs and not many got out of their seats.

In Melbourne (Second show) through most of the show, except for a couple of slow numbers where he wanted us to sit and listen, we were out of our seats dancing and screaming, hollering and even aow wohing in a Mexican wave. During Little Red Corvette and ICNTTPOYM I would say 90% of the audience was on its feet and 70% of them were dancing. By Days of Thunder, everyone was on their feet and the guards were having to stop people from blocking the aisles. The lady trying to clear my aisle actually gave up and started dancing!!!!!!!

Plus Prince was also saying stuff like "Melbourne you are the funkiest people in Australia""U r all just so funky" and "Y'all chose the right night 2 come and c me" virtually funking it up, dancing or soloing by Prince caused a huge roar by the audience. Also the Aussie Aussie chants during 911 is a joke caused pandemonium.

For the 4th encore he emerged from the purple box wheeled on to stage and he just pulled out every trick known. Our show finally finished at 11.15.

I say this as originally I wanted the Brisbane show and eneded up with Melbourne, after what you and the others have said, I think I may have gor lucky, but hang in there, it seems that the first shows in Sydney and Melbourne were a little flat compared to the second nights, if you are going to the May 26th show, it might be better. Still u guys got those rarities like Empty Room.

It will be interesting too to see what crowd reaction will be like if he does a show here in Kiwiland

Is Days of Thunder a mashup of Days of Wild and Thunder? That might be interesting.

If I was working the soundboard, this would be the problem every night until I was fired. She's a hell of a talent, but her "Put Your Hands Up" chant is the most horrible thing this side of Tony M. In fact, hype up the crowd chants are for lesser acts who can't get a response from a crowd. Not supposed to be an issue with legends. Can you imagine Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, or U2 having some flunky doing this? No, you can't.

I agree. She has got one hell of a voice & fills in on alot of the duets that the other girls can't do. I felt sorry for her because she was trying to work up the crowd, which might have worked in Syd/Melb but inBrisbane... Well let's just say they needed more than that to get a reaction. Maybe everybody just needed her 2 virtually walk over & pull the stick out of some of their asses.

I'd say if the audience was a bit stiff, this probably explains your shorter show.
Prince has been known to cut down the number of encores if a particular audience doesn't appear to feeling it.

Melbourne on Tuesday night, I guess we were fortunate that the audience were there for a good time clearly, and that Public Enemy were in the building which made for the perfect situation for a couple of more encores.

Sorry I meant to say Days Of Wild, I always get this song confused with the movie Days of Thunder. Although they had the thunder noises around the symbol on the big screens at the start and end....

There were people in the rows around me who were sitting eatign boxes of popcorn! You eat popcorn at the movies, not a concert. Big boxes too, definitiely in it for the long haul.

Great show last night! Performance wise, Prince & the NPG were off the chain! The best mood I've seen them in the 3 nights I've seen so far. The crowd too were also right into it, again, even more so than the other nights. Who says Brisbane don't know how to party?! My only gripe for the night was the sound - way too loud and distorted. A couple of times I literally had to block my ears. Hope they fix it next week. But other than that, I can't fault the performance. I'm still pinching myself that he played "Empty Room" at a main show in Brisbane of all places!! cool

Thanks! Is it just me, or does that show seem short? Or is it the way the setlist is written? Princevault is great, but somehow the way they post the setlists for this tour makes the shows seem less interesting than when I see the setlist posted here by somebody who went to the show or compiled it from FB/twitter.

I've been a staunch supporter of this leg of the tour but, damn, looking at the official tour facebook page there are a lot of concert goers saying the sound was crap and they were disappointed because of this.

Can anyone shed any light o whether this is the venue or Prince's staffs' fault?

I mean, after the fiasco i Europe with similar issues at some shows this beggars belief if it was as bad sound-wise as some suggest!

@Flyorra

I'm in the UK but I feel for Brisbane fans who attended and felt disappointed

I know it's pathetic of me but I was so struck by all the FB comments that I tweeted @welcome2aus

to flag people's disappointment in the vain hope that somehow it could reach the right channels

Why does it matter to me? I just know I'd be mighty pisssed if I'd been there and it's not like the tickets are that cheap. Also there have been so many positive comments about this leg of the tour that it would be a shame to near the end on a negative confused

It depends on the type of fan you are. If you are a fan of a party atmosphere, you will have fun. If your true musical knowledge is knowing something about Prince's hairstyle, you will have the best time ever. If you enjoy Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up" a few times, or even 100 times, you will have the time of your life.

But, if you have strong musical knowledge enjoy full length songs with the main act singing all the lyrics, you will have a wonderful time for 5-10 songs, an ok time for another 3-5, and will be annoyed for a good portion of the show.

Prince is inconsistent. He can be the best live performer on the planet when he wants to be. He can also sleepwalk and go thru the motions for several songs, or even a whole show. From 1997-2001, he was on Auto Pilot for most of those tours. When he was awake from 2002-2004, those were some of the most inspired shows he had done since his 80's heyday.

Since 2007's 21 Nites in London, he's pretty much been on auto-pilot. He still has some breathtakingly awesome performances, but is just as likely to give one town a 90 minute show as he is to give another a 3 hour show. Even in the long shows, expect lots of cover songs, and lots of background singers singing lead.

I really miss the Prince who used to claim(lie) "I don't listen to anybody elses' records."
