Prince's Band: Horn Section?

Based on Prince's previous bands, do you prefer a band with horns or a band with no horns?

2 whomever it may concern, u must come 2 ur senses. There r no kings on this Earth, only princes.

Well the pic looked like she was jamming with them, no? So perhaps there will lots of funky horns on any new music that'll be coming? Maybe...hopefully?

If u want Minneapolis sound then horns are not in need .

If u want horns go listen James Brown and the J.B's

lol Just being in Minney doesn't guarantee that the Mpls Sound will be heard. Prince can and does play whatever he likes with whichever instruments he wants, and with whoever he wants. I'll gladly listen. I never go to see Prince with expectations of certain music being played. I think it's a privilege to be at a live performance and I enjoy all of Prince's music and collaborations. guitar headbang

The Power trio would do me just fine. For horns, just Eric Leeds.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

I think Prince tries to include a horn section in damn near every song. Let's Go Crazy has not been performed very well at all live since the Purple Rain tour. He either ruins it with the "Go Go GO" chant that was not in the original song, and sounds cheesy, corny, and lame, or like on Musicology, he had 3 saxophones going. LGC is not a horn section song by any means, but that won't stop Prince. I'd love to hear the song with all the lyrics sung, and the music like the album version. Sadly, this song is dead live.

HAPPY new year All .... I think any extra layer he adds to the band is better. In his head he may have heard it with horns and bam there are horns. I think if he put bag pipes and acordians it would sound good ! Its how he would use them That the fun part ! keep smiling .

I think I forgot to mention that I love real horn sections in many Prince songs. It's just that he thinks having a horn section means that they have to be on damn near every song. I think I once made a dream setlist with a * next to every song that should have horns. I think I had horns on 18 of the 25 song set list. Imagine "Rock Hard In A Funky Place," played live with Atlanta Bliss, Eric Leeds, and maybe Maceo and Greg Boyer.

We can debate all we want, but the fact is majority of prince's best work was without horns.
His trade mark sound is with synths imitating the horns.horns makes prince's music breathe far less.for me prince sound works the best when it's stripped to bass ,keys ,linn, guitar and oberhaim synths.
