Dr.Funkenberry just announced there is going to be an official NPG afterparty after the Prince show tonight.

It's at Newtons and the price is $50 online, $60 at the door until 1 a.m. where the price will increase.

the afterparty will be at Newtown - it's not the place for live music...I will be very surprised if he performed at the afterparty

Afterjam was great. Dj Rashida spinning music then about 2 or so the NPG came out and played for about an hour and then Prince came out and played with them. It ended about 4:00am with Pass the Peas. Price played keyboards and bass for most of the evening and let the girls sing. Other than Get Wild mostly just jamming to various grooves and songs with lots of instrumentals. Up close and personal.

Wow! Sounds great and much better than the afterjam in Toronto.

OMG...I just woke up and cannot BELIEVE the amazing night I had. First the incredible concert that Prince and The NPG layed down last night at The Bell Centre. Then the afterjam which was just that...THE FUNKIEST OF JAMS!!!

After the concert Utopia7 and my friend Crissy who had just been devirginized by the funky one hopped in a cab which took us to the Venue- NewTown. We get out and discover a bouncer with a rope and NO LINE!! Did ya hear me? No line! After we stayed at the concert for ALL the encores! The bouncer tells us we can go upstairs and have a drink...we said oh no....we will be standing right here witchya buddy, until the place opens up! The bouncer was cool as hell...we began talking about Montreal and Prince and how talented he and the band are. Then we are joined by two guys from Toronto named Chris and Ben(holler at me if you see this!) They were from Toronto and had seen the show their. We were inseparable the entire night! The bouncer, who I find out is from the same small island in the Carribean that my mother is from, was friendly and let the 5 of us in first. We descend down tthe stairs to Club Empire. The club had an art deco feel to it. It had a black and white, cinema inspired feel. Complete with a sunken dance floor that had black and white checkerboard flooring. (Very Under The Cherry Moon-esque) We got drinks said hello to Rashida and danced to her mix from about 12 till 2am. Time passes so quickly when Rashida is in the house...let me tell ya. We were unsure of what the night held in store for us...would Prince play or wouldn't he? While dancing we see the techs bringing in Prince's equipment. Is this really going down? Then we see the multi-colored horseshoe that makes up his pedals complete with the symbol pic holder. I almost faint on the spot. This is REALLY happeneing!!! Utopia and I almost have to hold each other up. I am so happy for my friend Crissy that she is going to have beginners luck like this...An amazing show AND an aftershow....WHUUUUUUUUT?? The band starts roling in and they are on a mission to have a good time partying too...they start out by just hanging out and jamming to Rashida's mix while the crew tunes uo the guitar and drums. The guitar of the night was an Orange one. Shelby came down from VIP which was up and stage left, and began dancing with those of us in the front row. She tells me to play my tambourine and play I did! When the NPG started to get on stage it was slowly. Rashida was still spinning and then Mr. Hayes got on keys, then John Blackwell got on the drums, then Cassandra O'Neill gets on the keys...this all made for a smooth transition from the DJ Rashida mix to the set. No way to tell when one started and the other stopped. Liv Warfield (who looks FAN-freking-TASTIC btw. How in the world did she lose weight like that? A girl like me needs to know!) started the set by singing...and sing she did! She did Brickhouse and improv stuff...Shelby came in and in the way that only Shelby can do she led the crowd in dancing and chants...all while Prince looked on and danced with us from VIP. She then had a couple of improv things but the stand out was her singing Jill Scott's A Long Walk...she killed it!! At theis point Prince is now standing by the keys...Cassandra also did some vocals...and began playing a little with Cassandra and then takes over the keys. Then he would do this pretty much all night, he would dip in on an instrument then stand back and watch with pride as his band tore up the stage.

A standout of the evening is when Prince picked up the bass! He took it after a great set from Ida... And he did an entire instrumental rendition of "Sexy Dancer" and The Time's "My stick". At this point he was warmed up and then began playing with his back to the crowd (for all those jackholes who felt the need to take their cameras out in spite of the warnings from us not to.) Then he began playing sideways with one foot on top of an amp (in his full length heels mind you...No WEDGE!! A heel!) and kept that up for some time... Shelby kept saying that we were gona party till the sun came up (btw...She and Liv wore MY tambourine out twice!!)....Then he and Andy Allo began dancing and horsing around on stage with him playing bass and her playing guitar. At some point Prince took the guitar from Andy and began playing while Andy danced. He performed various Larry Graham greats like "Higher" . Peppered into this whole mix was the one and onle Maceo Parker on sax...who funkied up the place and led us into the final song of Pass the Peas and Utopia thinks their was some Brickhouse thrown in as well. We closed the tab and dragged are behinds out of their at 4:20 AM after saying goodbye to our new friends. What an amazing night! If anyone can add to this let me know! I forgot to mention Marla Joy who opened up the afterparty was amazingly funky! jamming with me on my Tamborine covering Aretha's "Rocksteady" Marla pulls Utopia7 on stage to add in back up vox and groove! Marla also killed Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart" to warm up the beginning of a fantastic evening.

That sounds like a boring ass aftershow. Remember when an aftershow meant you were going to see something truly special??! For damn sure not anymore. Nowadays, it seems like aftershows are just even more opportunities for Shelby and the NPG to dominate on covers and bullshit tracks! And, this band is not that moving enough to be able to rock a show like that. Most people now are mostly caught up in the excitement of just being in attendance of one of his famed aftershows than really being bowled over by the quality of the performance.

And what's up with Prince playing these Time songs more and more these days? He really never bothered to play the shit until The Time (they'll ALWAYS really be The Time to me; fuck Prince and his name games) were really getting things together with their new album. More of that ego of his, of course. Even though he wrote the shit, he'll NEVER be able to perform them these days with the kind of funk and vigor that The Time/Original 7ven performs them with. If you took Prince and this NPG band (with all the Shelby antics included) and pit them back to back, nose to nose against The Time/Original 7ven, the NPG would lose EVERY damn time. Guaranteed!

people who attended only payed 50$ and got to see him jam with his band with a handful of people.. pretty cool and intimate experience if your a fan.. get that negative garbage out of here..

I flew in from DC and went to the Centre Bell show. Doing the Aftershow was a real last minute decision for me but I am soooooooo glad I did. It was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Prince went all the way in on that bass. I never ever seen anything like that in my life. He is truly amazing. Even though it was clear he was apprehensive about being "seen" while on stage, he ripped it. He took the guitar from Andy and ripped it. Took the bass from ida and ripped it. Took the keys from Cassie and killed it. Was giving cues and orchestrating everything, it was mind blowing to see up close. I had a front row view by the keys and was just captivated. Prince and the NPG are just... there really are no words. This night was a dream come true for me.

If you can't deal with an opinion that's different than yours, then maybe it's YOU that needs to get YOUR "garbage out of here". And you must only pay attention to the ass kissing threads/posts about Prince or something (I don't know) because I've said PLENTY of good shit about Prince....when it warrants it. in every damn prince concert post one of the few complaints of the shows i see is from u who don't get to witness what people who go are talking about.. all u see is a list of songs and judge performances from it.... 12 000 people in attendance last night in montreal and people reacted the most to his hits.. why should he stop performing them?? he threw in songs like pop life, empty room, calhoon square for the bigger fans. you can't expect him to perform too many obscure songs or else he'd start losing the crowd..

As for this show, once again you didnt even attend the show and everyone who has are very pleased with it so .. your opinion has no value whatsoever since you weren't there.. You just keep proving that your one of those dudes who shits on everything the prince of today does blindly. i woudn't call that "free thinking".. People who went to his aftershow last night got to see a jam session with prince playing different instruments with a tight band.. it looks like a pretty cool experience to me.. yet u think it was total crap.. lol comical

and no i'm not a purple cool aid man. it has nothing to do with loving everything he does ..for instance i didn't like the 20ten album.. it just being over the top critical that i have a problem with.. thats all..

If you don't like my posts, feel free to IGNORE it. Oh, I'm sorry; is someone pointing a gun to your head and making you read every word I always say??? You say "everyone" enjoyed it, but you've only heard the feedback from 2-3 people. Now, unless he gave this show in a phone booth, that ain't everyone. So, you don't know what the overall feeling about the show was.

And yeah, I'm making a judgment on the show by its setlist; the same as I did for those that I didn't attend back in the 80s and 90s (and even one or two in London 2007, I'll admit) but were STILL off the fuckin' chain. Plus, I've heard this band and what it can do, and Lord knows it's boring.

Again, if you don't like what I'm saying, every time you see the name "alexnvrmnd777", SKIP THE SHIT!!!! But I'll be damned if I'm going to not post or suck Prince's dick for anything and everything just because there are some on this site that hate what I have to say or hate people who don't like everything he does.

Hey Portia, I saw you guys. I was the guy sitting on the stool on the left side of the stage all night on the second step of the stage. Great view and I didn't have to stand there all night waiting! I literally went from the venue at 4:00, ran to the hotel, got my bag and headed right to the airport to catch my flight back to NYC. A 24 hour turn around. Was back in my house before the family woke up!

The bouncer tells us we can go upstairs and have a drink...we said oh no....we will be standing right here witchya buddy, until the place opens up! The bouncer was cool as hell...we began talking about Montreal and Prince and how talented he and the band are. Then we are joined by two guys from Toronto named Chris and Ben(holler at me if you see this!) They were from Toronto and had seen the show their. We were inseparable the entire night! The bouncer, who I find out is from the same small island in the Carribean that my mother is from, was friendly and let the 5 of us in first. We descend down tthe stairs to Club Empire. The club had an art deco feel to it. It had a black and white, cinema inspired feel. Complete with a sunken dance floor that had black and white checkerboard flooring. (Very Under The Cherry Moon-esque) We got drinks said hello to Rashida and danced to her mix from about 12 till 2am. Time passes so quickly when Rashida is in the house...let me tell ya. We were unsure of what the night held in store for us...would Prince play or wouldn't he? While dancing we see the techs bringing in Prince's equipment. Is this really going down? Then we see the multi-colored horseshoe that makes up his pedals complete with the symbol pic holder. I almost faint on the spot. This is REALLY happeneing!!! Utopia and I almost have to hold each other up. I am so happy for my friend Crissy that she is going to have beginners luck like this...An amazing show AND an aftershow....WHUUUUUUUUT?? The band starts roling in and they are on a mission to have a good time partying too...they start out by just hanging out and jamming to Rashida's mix while the crew tunes uo the guitar and drums. The guitar of the night was an Orange one. Shelby came down from VIP which was up and stage left, and began dancing with those of us in the front row. She tells me to play my tambourine and play I did! When the NPG started to get on stage it was slowly. Rashida was still spinning and then Mr. Hayes got on keys, then John Blackwell got on the drums, then Cassandra O'Neill gets on the keys...this all made for a smooth transition from the DJ Rashida mix to the set. No way to tell when one started and the other stopped. Liv Warfield (who looks FAN-freking-TASTIC btw. How in the world did she lose weight like that? A girl like me needs to know!) started the set by singing...and sing she did! She did Brickhouse and improv stuff...Shelby came in and in the way that only Shelby can do she led the crowd in dancing and chants...all while Prince looked on and danced with us from VIP. She then had a couple of improv things but the stand out was her singing Jill Scott's A Long Walk...she killed it!! At theis point Prince is now standing by the keys...Cassandra also did some vocals...and began playing a little with Cassandra and then takes over the keys. Then he would do this pretty much all night, he would dip in on an instrument then stand back and watch with pride as his band tore up the stage.

A standout of the evening is when Prince picked up the bass! He took it after a great set from Ida... And he did an entire instrumental rendition of "Sexy Dancer" and The Time's "My stick". At this point he was warmed up and then began playing with his back to the crowd (for all those jackholes who felt the need to take their cameras out in spite of the warnings from us not to.) Then he began playing sideways with one foot on top of an amp (in his full length heels mind you...No WEDGE!! A heel!) and kept that up for some time... Shelby kept saying that we were gona party till the sun came up (btw...She and Liv wore MY tambourine out twice!!)....Then he and Andy Allo began dancing and horsing around on stage with him playing bass and her playing guitar. At some point Prince took the guitar from Andy and began playing while Andy danced. He performed various Larry Graham greats like "Higher" . Peppered into this whole mix was the one and onle Maceo Parker on sax...who funkied up the place and led us into the final song of Pass the Peas and Utopia thinks their was some Brickhouse thrown in as well. We closed the tab and dragged are behinds out of their at 4:20 AM after saying goodbye to our new friends. What an amazing night! If anyone can add to this let me know! This was well worth the 7 hour drive from NJ.

Sounds great; sounds like it could have been even better if he played some of his other own jams instead of Larry Grahams!

I forgot to mention Marla Joy who opened up the afterparty was amazingly funky! jamming with me on my Tamborine covering Aretha's "Rocksteady" Marla pulls Utopia7 on stage to add in back up vox and groove! Marla also killed Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart" to warm up the beginning of a fantastic evening.

Yeah that! I'm down with Prince playing all of his songs, not so much when he covers other people songs. I think the NPG mainly singing is probably Prince saving his voice for the concerts (He is 53).

Prince tore it up, on the bass for hours, 20 min Get Wild jam, no stage, only about 60 people down the front for the enitire gig, what more could u ask for?

I didn't go... cause my friend didn't want to miss the last bus to her place...
