I didn't go to Edmonton... Third time seeing him EVER but 2nd time this tour.

Originally had bought VIP for Saskatoon.

bought semi cheap seat for Winnipeg

Then Calgary was announced

Bought semi cheap seat for Calgary

was going to sell my Winnipeg ticket

Then Saskatoon cancelled (along with my once in a lifetime moment)

but money was already outlayed:(

Forwent some bills eek

Bought floor ticket to Winnipeg - amazing!! danced till I dropped.

Realized I was not going to recoup other money

Gave it to a friend... even though we didn't sit together it was a fantastic show!

Tonight I am going with my sister and bro in law... I hope they get into it!

But am going to the after show solo (omg an aftershow/party/jam!)

Bought a ticket.

What do you think the chances are he plays? It says afterjam, but it's only 60 bucks? Weren't others here burned buy aftershows in other cities?

*fingers crossed*

Edit: Just read the review of him playing in Montreal for the aftershow, I stand corrected. This is going to be a long night smile

Before I start, please accept that this is my own opinion, and I am just stating how I feel.

Just got back from the Calgary show and all I can say is wow and wow.

The first wow is a good wow. Wow at Prince. The man still has the voice, the moves, the look and the energy. The show was great. Everything I have come to expect from a Prince show. Opened with DMSR, moved on to Musicology and the rest is a blur. I stood up when the thunder started and never sat back down.

That brings me to the second wow. This is directed at Calgary. I have lived here a long time and it sucks, real bad, to be in a place where the fans don't get it. Most of the crowd, was good, but damn, when P first said "Thanks" and left the stage people started to leave. What!! Even if you didn't know Prince has been doing multipe encores you gotta know an artist is coming back. I think that is why, when he did come back, he played 4 more songs, then left and that was it. 1 Encore. None of these 3 4 or 7 I've been reading about in other cities. You could even see the disappointment on P's face when he asked everyone to sing along to I Would Die 4 U, and hardly anyone sang back.

There was no Gold, no Nothing Compares 2 U, no Million Days. I think we missed out and it is simply because there is no music scene in Calgary.

Other than that though, I did have a lot of fun. It was a great show, sad I didn't get my shirt with the VIP package, they mail it to you. But the rest of the package is pretty cool.

Here is a beautiful review from Mike Bell writing for the Calgary Herald. Instead of copying and pasting the whole article, I would like to share and respond to a few highlights.

Kicking things off a mere 20 minutes late, the artist — in every meaning of the word — ascended from below the stage shaped like his Formerly Known As symbol, and proceeded to give a master class on performance, showmanship and unadulterated musicality.

Respect

Each song he and his remarkable band, which included saxman supreme Maceo Parker, was an exercise in all that live music should be, an exchange between audience and entertainer, the fulfilment of the contract that both get something out of it and are made all the better.

Very signficant point that I myself have pondered. Different people want or expect different things from a "show," and all these views are expressed here at the org. I think the point above is that a Prince show is not a sit down on my seat and be entertained like I am at the movies joint. It is interactive. Passive participants gain less when they leave (in certain cases) compared to those who are dancing, singing, shouting, clapping their hands and stomping their feet.

And that band? Again, wow. He has always surrounded himself with hot players, and those accompanying him on his current tour kept the sound huge, the funk flowing and the mood on the party side of the ledger.

Respect (again, given where it is due)

It wasn’t just a concert, it was an event, something that everyone in the building will likely remember, something that everyone who wasn’t will regret, and something you’ll be lucky to ever be offered again.

Yes, again all I can say is respect. It reminds me of back in the day, when SOTT was referred to as an event...a carnaval or parade.

You may find the complete article here

Hmmm, not sure what that means now but Prince is always too cool in black & white photos. But is it just me or does he look kinda sad, like something is missing in his eyes? Looks like he could be doin wi a huge hug & some sweet kisses! The queue's startin here so ladies get in line in an orderly fashion please! Lol! biggrin

JUST HOME NOW! DANCING FOR 8 HOURS!

I can not even BEGIN to describe the level of FUNK I witnessed tonight.

once in a lifetime, baby...

the afterjam... it was like they were in someone's livingroom!

we were one hot sweaty mass of people

DJ Rashida spun fantastic set after fantastic set to keep us going.

NPG started 2:03

Just when I thought I could take no more, Maceo cooled me down. So funky.

Liv BELTED out the funk. I passed her my mf'in paper handtowel to wipe her brow. excited

Shelby and Prince arrived at 2:50

Prince started on the keyboards but then jumped to the bass.

He had it THUMPIN

No vocals for him, the girls were tearing up the mic.

All to soon he said he was outta here. (3:20 or so? I forget)

About half of the crowd (that the doorman estimated to be 110, 120?) left after that.

More room to dance, breathe now lol.

Kept the funk going... 3:45 Shelby wraps it up. Says thank yous.

Band all leaves stage, Shelby's asking who's coming to Vancouver?

I turn around and Morris is beside me. I tell him Saskatoon needs the NPG!

People have left to get their coats...

Bam! Prince shows up and hurries everyone back to their places.

3:50 Prince is on keyboards and he is singing too!

Says "Aren't you glad you didn't leave?" Like we were goin anywhere!

They look like they are done after one song, Shelby has her purse on her arm...

And Prince is not ready to go home! Starts in "It's been 7 hours and 15 days..."

They must have gone till 4:10 or so.

The GORGEOUS DJ Rashida spins EXTRALOVABLE while we try to catch our breath and comprehend what just happened.
