"Thousands of unsatisfied concert-goers"

Doesn't sound like Prince does it, but I hear that he rolled into my part of town last night and played a shitty set. Glad i didn't go.

the sample set reminds me of the fiasco that was Cee Lo at Lollapalooza this year.

I feel sorry for folks who paid hard cash to see the guy, especially hearing that he treated people afterward to a great show in a local club. What a douche.

looking at the setlist for the aftershow on Princevault, I can't say I'm much impressed with that show either. I'm sure they played well, but....

Just look at the reviews by ORG members. I thought for the most part the review was balanced. I would disagree that LRC was a bummer-It was the highlight of Prince's guitar work.

Nah, he didn't have to relive the past. But if you would have seen the Victoria show-You truly don't know what you have missed. And I believe we are speaking for ourselves just as you are. The Tacoma show wasn't bad-it just wasn't great.

I can dig that! I've been to more Prince shows than I can remember and there have been much better and some not. It just kinda gets under my skin when people are so negative. We don't know how he was feeling. No matter what the show must go on. I am thankful that this amazing artist is in our midst and we can share a moment in time with him. He won't always be here. I'm glad he came to Seattle. He didn't have to. The next run he might not

This tour does sound like a cash grab for the most part with a few highlights sprinkled in. I've been to many a show and as a long time fan you do become fickle after awhile. I've been bored with the hits for years but his overall talent keeps me coming back for more since you never know.. I was fortunate enough to witness the Troubador gig this year and its probably ruined me for future shows. I also know I've said that before and have been proven wrong. Overall he's in retirement mode as far as I'm concerned and that's ok as long as he can still throw down an amazing club gig now and again.

According to one of the commenters on the blog, some girl got through arena security and sneaked under the stage, and Prince's security guys weren't happy with it either, of course. And because of this whole thing, Prince got pissed off.

Lol! That'd be some funny shit if this is why he cut the show abnormally short. lol

The Victoria show was outstanding, the best of the many I saw this year. Nothing compares 2 u Victoria. That will be hard to top but, with Prince, I am staying tuned. He will do it.

Hearing about the location of the aftershow, in downtown Seattle, it makes sense he cut it short by an hour. That's how long it takes to get from Tacoma to Seattle. Next time he should play an aftershow closer to the concert because that's ridiculously petty and unfair to give the rest of the country a good show and Tacoma a bad show because they had to cut out to drive another hr and play for 3 hours for a group of yuppies.

It did take a good hour to fight the traffic and get from the Dome to Republiq for the aftershow. It was midnight by the time I got there. However, the NPG didn't go on until 2am. Unless he needed 3 hours to get ready, I still don't see why the Tacoma gig was that short. I still enjoyed it though.

Prince also left the Victoria venue at 1230am sunday morning (after his Saturday concert) to go to the after party.

19 - dnamj Dec 20, 2011 at 3:28 pm I thought it was a weak performance, and a serious disappointment. When you have a crowd that size, and a band of that caliber, to throw away that opportunity by holding back and cutting the show short is unworthy. After insulting the crowd (does the name James Brown mean anything to anyone? Yes. It does. More than the name "Prince" does in fact), playing nothing more than snippets of his 1980s hits, wanking on his synth, and strutting around pulling call-and-response tired BS for 70 minutes, he pulled out the Purple Rain and one encore song and left. To bail after a short show in order to play a club date (which was an additional $100) is a douchebag move.

I've been a Prince fan my entire life, but the concert last night was absolutely insulting. We paid $1000 for our family to enjoy a quality show during the holidays, and he didn't even play for 1.5 hours. Of the music that we heard, he sang MAYBE half the time and his band picked up the rest of the show.

"On December 19th, 2011, Prince left thousands of concertgoers unsatisfied after a far too short show at the Tacoma Dome in Washington State. How do I know they were unsatisfied? Very few people left the arena, even long after the houselights came up and the stagehands began disassembling equipment. There seemed to be a collective feeling of disbelief among the large crowd, many of whom were likely well aware of the lavish praise Prince’s current Welcome 2 America tour is receiving."

Interesting how some of Prince's concerts have been abrupty truncated while others went on two and half to three hours... I know--I attended both! Would have killed for one of those afterjams though. wink

Yeah, the audience and the shows in Oakland were off the chain. I also went to the last two concerts in L.A. and the vibes were terrific but they didn't raise the roof off the top of the Forum like they did in Oakland. wink

Totally agree..I too saw him in both places, multiple shows including San Jose but no comparison to Oakland.

As if I'm going to drive an hour and a half on a monday night..... That's another thing, doesn't the kid get that folks work during the week? I am glad to hear he's dancing again and even flirting with his racy material, which is some of his best. I even heard he humped the piano. Sounds like he's on the right track.

omfg Ouch! I usually never read concert reviews, (Especially when things are as harsh as this) Yet, something made me motivated to read this and OUCH. It sounded horrible, even worst is that so many people were HIGHLY disappointed. It's obvious this type of performance behavior, happens occasionally, he can't be on fire ALL the time, he's only human. ALSO, he has to chill. He should have never had so many concerts, and just rested for some time. It seems as if the after show where was it WAS! smile I know sometimes he is standby mode, I would be too. Haha. He has too many songs to keep playing: Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, COOL, etc... I mean he can FUNK it up in some new way to make it more appealing, and that he does sometimes. However, he can also play some new random songs out the blue. HE HAS SO MANY SONGS, and he can just FLIP this whole thing out the water if he wanted, but we can't expect the best all the time I guess..lol

It wasn't the fact that he sang his old songs. They were sung pretty lazily and Prince acted like he just wanted to get them over with. I would have to admit that the crowd could have been more into. I think we were too busy having to sing HIS songs to him. How short it was, was what turned me off!Overall, it was a weird concert. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't very good!

I can understand that going to see Prince in concert brings excited expectations. Believe me I understand. I've been to many Prince concerts, have been a longtime friend. Went to the NY concert in Jan 2011. It was unbelievably off the freakin' chain. Sorry to say to hear that your experience wasn't expected. And you know that's not characteristic of a Prince show. Give the guy a little slack, stop hating so much. You don't know what was really going on behind the scenes. And if you're a true fan/friend you'd have empathy. Everytime I get the chance to go to hear him play I'm blessed. He and his music are the only consistent love. I'm sure he tried his best to satisfy as many as much as possible. Most artist do! smile
