Its interesting how Ida and Prince love playing there old bass/guitars; Ida's bass is more beat up than Prince's Hohner guitar; I guess they get so use to sentimental of playing them for so long. I have seen only one pic on this tour with Prince playing a different guitar than the Hohner. |

Really nice concert.
During the intro jam Prince picked up the guitar and the sound wasn't coming through. He got upset and turned to Mr Hayes with a WTF! expression and returned the guitar. When he got the guitar back the band moved into Controversy. Prince was all the time eyeing Mr Hayes and indicating that he was not happy. During the verse "Was it good for you? Was I what you wanted me to be? Controversy Do you get high? Does your daddy cry?" he turned around and indicated to Mr Hayes that his daddy was crying. Prince then asked the audience if they could hear him and started "Testing 1, 2. Testing 1, 2" turning around to Mr Hayes with a "look what I have to do, maybe if you had worked a little harder I would have to do this".
I get that it can be annoying that things do not work. I think Mr Hayes got the message the first time Prince lifted the guitar that things could have been better, but Prince really let him have it for 5-10 min. But after that it was a party.
Highlights for me was Calhoun Square, Stratus and Beautiful Strange. On Beautiful Strange Prince was wispering, singing and in the end screaming like I have never heard him in concert. He was really giving 100%.
Now off to the festival |

You've seen pics where it wasn't there anymore?
If not and you're basing it on seeing him live or something, it'd kinda be hard to see whether or not it was there from a distance while he's on stage...in which case...

Who did he hand the guitar to? Mr. Hayes?
Was it possible that he was just looking to Mr. Hayes like, "Can you believe this crap?!" or was he specifically berating HIM?

Prince got the guitar from the roadie that handles the guitars. When it was not working he held it horizontally with his palms facing up and outstretched arms. He turned around from the center and walked back to Mr Hayes on the left side of the stage, facing Hayes to show him that the guitar wasn't not making a sound.
Before the concert, during the soundcheck, it seemed to me that Hayes (and maybe Blackwell) are responsible for the overall soundcheck. Of course there are all the roadies/crew doing their job, but I got the impression that Hayes/Blackwell are the band representatives and that they work with the crew.
After showing that the guitar wasn't working Prince handed it to the roadie that handles his guitar. Roadie fixed it in secs. I'm guessing that it was set to the wrong radio channel (that said I have no clue how this stuff work).
Mr Hayes did the only thing he could do. He was sorry, remained clam. After Controversy Prince focused on the party. Having fun with the audience and the band. |

I'm pretty sure Prince just turned to Morris for support. He's fed up with things not working / being ready when he come on but he wasn't blaming Morris. He was just kind of indicating , Can you believe it?! I saw what you saw too but that was my interpretation. Morris must be one of his oldest and.closest friends. I don't think Morris and John take responsible for the whole sound, they just come on stage and set up their own equipment meticulously. So does Cassie BTW. I've seen them all come on stage before shows and set things up for themseves but I've never seen them take any interest / responsibility for the guitar sound. There are other guys doing that.
