Who do I have a so-called vendetta against, Prince? Not at all. I just think people need to look at these situations with an open mind and realize that Prince can be wrong too. When you run your ship the way Prince does (flying by the seat of your pants, showing up to things whenever he likes) then you're bound to have a few moments like these. I'm not saying he's a bad guy or anything, but literally calling out your soundman is not something that most artists do. Sorry if I give off the impression that I hate Prince.

Calling out for level changes is fine, but the last time I saw him his obsession with doing this ruined lots of songs. He re-started the song No More Candy 4 U 3 times, stopped several and refused to sing certain lyrics, instead opting to say stuff like "Front wedge, more boom on the snare, turn my voice up." I understand he is a perfectionist but the adjustments were totally minimal and we all pay to see him sing and play guitar (amongst other stuff) not boss his soundman around.

Also, that Tinkerbell shit is the most annoying thing I have ever seen so congrats on that.

Nothing changed to the Arena in 13 years:

Back in 1998 the P soundscheck also lasted for too long, the show was short.

In 2011 we suffer a very similar fate.

The venue did not change at all:

Still the stupid stairs when the arena floor is at the street level. (yes, you climb upwards to reach the 'lobby' of the arena, then inside go down agan to get to the Innenraum)

No acoustic measures (curtains, etc) attached to the ceiling.

Queueing inside for Innenraum trusts people to be orderly, same with going down the stairs where too few `security` people are around, no fences ofr whatever.

Then we wait in front of the doors. 'Security' people leave one by one. We were left alone (without 'security'!) for a while, even.

When the doors open it is a short sprint towards the catwalk. (I was center in front of the upside down T-shape)

Arena managament (?) only announced somethign about technical issue very shortly before P came on again. Nothing conclusive or very detailling. Nothing sooner, even.

Do we think P forfilled his CONtract with the arena?

Do we coplain about the curfew that made an extra encore slightly impossible?

I wrote you had a vendetta because it appeared on the night/day you wrote your original post, that you'd posted on several other threads and it was Prince sucks, the music sucked, etc. kind of overkill.

The whole Cologne thing was simply an off-night. While folks may not agree with Prince putting the sound guy "on-blast", I think we all can empathize with situations where a member of the "team" doesn't do his part and messes things up for the whole team. From what I read this was at least the second time the sound guy did that. In my job I can't "scream" at anyone although I'd like to; but then I don't sign their paycheck either.

When "sound" is the name of the game--why wouldn't Prince or any other artist get mad? That's how they make their living. The sound guy should have heard the problems and addressed them; isn't that what they get paid to do?

As for the tinkerbell, I thought it perfectly accentuated the "poof be gone" statement.

p.s. And since we're talking about annoyances, I really don't like it when people use cuss words; its gauche.

Prince is a perfectionist about the sound during concerts, as many have witnessed in the past. Clearly there were technical problems, which may or may not have been caused by his own crew or by the organiser. All I know is that he's played plenty of shows in the last couple of weeks where the sound was perfect - so his crew do have a good track record so far.

Why is it not possible that the problems were caused by the venue or the crew of the organiser?

I was not there, but from what i have read it was Prince (yes, the man himself) blaming his own crew here. And he blamed them (him) in a not so professional way.

I was there and Prince blamed his sound man John.

Like he did already in Rotterdam!

I assume he OK'd for the public to be let in.

At that point the sound was OK.

Right?

If not, start the show with a soundcheck-song.
