I really tried to make it to this show but couldn't persuade any of my friends to cough up the money for a ticket and I'm just not brave enough to go on my own sad . If only Dublin wasn't so far away from Donegal!!

Much as I understand your point of view and don't want you to feel pressured, I just wanted to share with you my story in case it helps you find the courage to do what I think you really want to do.

I had the opportunity to fly to LA from Melbourne, Australia to see Prince at the Forum in May, but understandably, couldn't find anyone to go with me (16hr flight, half-way across the world, plenty of $$, etc...)

Finally I decided to just DO IT anyway! Tickets for that weekend weren't even released until a couple of hours before I was due on the airport bus. I woke up in the morning, raced to the computer, booked my tickets for the Fri/Sat nights, got organised and soon, was on my way to the airport and then on a plane bound for LA.

I had an absolutely brilliant time!! After the first night I got in contact with a couple of truly lovely local orgers, one of which I was able to meet up with on the Saturday night and he was the catalyst for me getting into an afterparty at the Forum Club that night (Prince didn't end up playing, but he walked right past me and I did meet some of the NPG).

I ended up following the crew up to Fresno and San Jose for 3 more concerts before it was time to go home. Busses, trains, taxis, various hotels, all booked on the fly as I tried to keep up with the purple yoda, lol!

I have absolutely no regrets - I loved every moment of it and came home, not only with the most wonderful memories, but several new friends from various cities (and countries, as it turns out!)

You've got to do what you feel is right for you, of course, but now I truly understand what people mean when they say that when you're at a Prince party, you're never alone.

If I had that opportunity again, I'd be on a plane to Dublin by now! biggrin

Blessings to you in any case, Moira, and to all who do go on the weekend (hopefully including yourself), have an absolute ball!! boogie

First post here - After securing my Pit ticket, I'm off to Dublin early Sat to see the Purple One, and I too am going on my own, flying back early Sunday which gives me the opportunity of a LIFETIME to see a Prince aftershow, IF there is one. I've wanted to go to an aftershow since '88, but never got the chance - so what's the trick? I have no idea how on earth you get to find out about them, let alone actually get in (is it a hugely expensive ticket?). Anybody got any insider tips?

Tri-pod is looking like the best bet at the moment. It's owned by the same people.

Hey, I totally understand, I'm usually not that brave either - but for Prince, I definitely couldnt pass up a concert in Ireland. Head down to Gibney's in Malahide first, thats were most seem to be gathering and where you can meet people, rather than heading into the concert on your own.... Go on, you know you want to!!!!

If you get a pit ticket, you are more than welcome to join us, there will be 10 of us altogether!!

im with you im not sure either although ive been to the an aftershow in the indigo although that was ticketed, i think the biggest problem is getting from the concert to the aftershow as its about 15 miles ? and the traffic will be hectic , but as to getting in its just a q as far as i can see , price in i think could be anything from 50 up !!

As a rough guide - Cannes last year was €50, Melkweg in Amsterdam was €100 (that was cash only, I believe) so bring plenty of cash, just in case!

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/prince-axed-show-151551430.html

Pop legend Prince is on a mission to Ireland to prove a point to his fans, he has told band-mates.

Organisers behind this weekend's 30,000-capacity gig at Malahide Castle, in north Dublin, said the performer is intent on making up for cancelling his Croke Park date three years ago at short notice.

Robbie Butler, of promoter POD concerts, said he was talking to Prince's band and the only problem they expect this time round is getting the genre-defying genius to wrap up the show.

"They said he wants to come to Dublin to prove a point," he said. "He just wants to come and do a great show."

Mr Butler said Prince phoned the concert promoters directly and said he wanted to come to Ireland.

He added: "The only problem will be getting him off the stage."

The 52-year-old singer has been playing to rave reviews during his latest European tour which kicked off in Paris three weeks ago. He has warned audiences to bring foot spray because "it's going to be funky".

The Malahide Castle show on Saturday will be his first in Ireland for nearly a decade and the biggest ever event in the sprawling seaside estate.

The set-list is expected to include many of his greatest hits including Kiss, Purple Rain, U Got That Look, Raspberry Beret, Alphabet Street, Diamonds and Pearls and Cream.

He is planning at least a three-hour set, said organisers.

Second that, well, about the aftershow. Long time fan (firt concert in 1990, Globe arena in Stockholm) who missed out on the followi g (to my knowledge);

2001 - Sthlm, aftershow planned but cancelled at Debaser in the last minute.
2007, 21 nights in London, tbe Indigo. Everything prepped. Prince backed out last minute - treated to Npg and Maceo! But alas, no Prince...
2010 - Belgium, aftershow went through but didn't pay attention to Dr Funkenberry...

So what gives? I really got the feeling Ireland is gonna be "it" - in many senses smile where to look, funkenberry? Allos twitter?
Been dying for one of these moments since I bought "Small club" back in '89!

And also - after sifting through, this now rather disperse thread. Meet-up in Malahide at the bar where the cover band plays? And - even more importantly - I gather Dart is the way to and from the gig, right ?

Sorry for any bad spelling and/or language - am on an Ipad and enjoying both sun and whiskey back in Stockholm wink Any swedes going btw?

Peace,
Gemini

And thanks to everyone else for the advise. I really wish I had posted my message sooner as I feel its a little late now to start planning a trip to Dublin on Saturday. I'm really small ...5ft nothing so the standing tickets would be a waste of money for me .... seated would be the only way to go but they are all sold out sad

It looks like I won't be there in person but I will be there in spirit and looking forward to hearing all the reviews on Sunday.

Enjoy folks....have a purpletastic time lol !!!

Hi Folks,

Just went by the park on the way home and took the latest shots. Weather is super last few days though some rain fell as I was taking these. Not to worry - forecast is for a great day on saturday. The pit is not sectioned off yet as the stage is not complete and they are building from the front as the areas at the back and side are sealed.

I can tell you it is very intimite and every seat/standing spot is a good view. Respectfully I am questioning if 30K people are attending - the setting is more in the 15-20K range very maximum. there just is no room for 30K but we shall see. So fear not if arriving early or lat, you'll have a good view
