Makes perfect sense for Prince to do a stadium show. He can charge $500 for tickets, and some of the meatheads on this site would expect him to sell 60,000 tickets like he was U2 or somebody. He of course is better, but ruined his career on his own, and with some help from Warners. Had he waited every 3 years to release an album, especially releasing Sign O The Times 3 years later as the follow up to Purple Rain, and had he never hired Tony M, he could tour stadiums. In order for him to sellout a stadium, there would have to be 30,000 tickets for $15, 20,000 tickets for $20, and maybe 10,000 for $35-$100. Even then, he would have trouble. Not to mention that word of mouth among fans has killed his reputation. I got an email from a fan asking me if it was true that he lets female background singers hog up valuable stage time, and if it was true that he over does the cover songs. Sad but true.
Still, even a bad Prince concert is better than most others good shows. | |
