Loved the concert but coming back I could barely hear, I didn't realise it had been so loud til later, especially the bass! Next day was still muffled sounding with slight ringing.

Even now it doesn't seem back to normal - am I the only one or has anyone else noticed this?!?!?

Just hoping those freaking technicians didnt do anything permanent...or those bass players...P and Larry...

P.S How does Prince avoid screwing his hearing bearing in mind the amount of concerts hes done? Surely he doesnt wear earplugs does he?!?

I was about 10 people from the front but pretty much in line with the speakers....i didnt really notice it at the time it was only after....i think the bass was set too loud esp with the earlier bands....

when u go to a concert u MUST take earplugs.

sound technicians have little to no regard for safe volume levels and have been single-handedly responsible for the damage or permanent loss of hearing to MANY MANY people.

please PROTECT your ears from this incompetent ignorance.

alternatively you can sue for damages due to them not ensuring a safe environment.

^ I probably will do in future...also the amount of kids and young people there, it can't have been good for their ears either!!

Hope your hearing resumes normal service before long. We were front row but thankfully the stewards were handing out earplugs freely for some time.

You also have to think the speakers are beside prince, so the sound is pretty much in front of him, and it isnt NEARLY as loud for him as it is for the audience. Example, if you have a portable speaker, turn it up, and put your ear in front of it... then move you ear to the side of the speaker, ad you will notice how the sound gets a LOT quieter.. Same concept for Prince.. (: He may also have a Portable ear monitor that aids as an Ear plug, AND a monitor so he can hear himself. (:

Assuming the noise levels were within regulation mandated levels that implies as 'safe'.

Furthermore the adults should remember the typically noise evironment of a rock concert.

W.r.t. kids I'd say they have their parents nearby to have concerns about the noisy environment.
But if even adults refuse to use noise protecion, then what about care for their kids?
It's same with smoking. People are very careless.
And where do regulations stipulate that free earplugs should be available at the door?

Hopefully it will get back to normality at some point....was just interested to see if anyone else noticed it!

Indeed that damage due to sound is a combination of duration of the sound and the loudness of the sound. So yes, it can creep onto ya while not noticing due to the clarity, etc.

P has monitors to listen to with custom levels, In Ear Monitoring gear etc.

So only when he walks to the front over the cat walk he can truely hear the house sound as we hear it.

I.e.: Not the house feed over his own speakers nor his IEM or memory from the soundcheck.

Not only am I still deaf but Im also blind from the awesomeness which was the Hop Farm gig.

Fortunately your hearing should come back. But unfortunately when you are hearing ringing and the sound is muffled that means you have sustained some permanent damage. Not enough to go deaf. Next time take earplugs just in case.

Oh well, I just did an online hearing test and I could hear all the tones fine so hopefully its ok...its just the slight background ringing that worries me

All kidding aside.... If you're young, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Long term damage is usually due to prolonged exposure or extremely loud high end frequencies....

That being said, I would suggest not exposing yourself to anything loud for a few days &, if the ringing continues... Go see an ears/nose/throat specialist just to be safe..... PEACE.

i always wear ear plugs no matter where i'm standing or sitting at a concert, or how close to the speakers i am. gotta protect your hearing.

i think maybe u just getting old?.. my bloke had buzzing of his earoles for couple of days, i was close & mine were ok. perhaps it's a bloke thing, i only ever see men wearing those earplugs

the reason why big concerts are "loud" is because we (yes i'm an "foh engineer") want to get the band to be louder than the audiance and maybe you have no idea how many noise you can make .

and ist's offcourse also basic physics that the closer to the source the louder it gets.

Larry Graham hurts my ears.
