He played from a quarter to two til about four.
It was very loud indeed, especially at the frontspeakers. It was a party and if it actually had continued til dawn - which one of the singers said it would - or 4ever I would have surely stayed.
Also Larry Graham walked right behind me in the concert he played before and played a solo in the crowd which was very cool.
Unfortunately for me the NSJ is very hard to reach where I live with public transport - you always have to go away earlier - if you know what I mean. I had three day tickets, but I'm skipping at least for today. It's expensive but overall quite good - but very big indeed.
Thanks to Prince playing so late, I could simply take the morning train.
What's the name of the redhaired bassplayer, she looked very hot.
Oh, and Janelle Monaé is awesome too. But also very loud.

Well this time of year 4am is pretty close to dawn.

Yeah, I think I'm still waiting for THE Dawn. Not the every day dawn.

The sound sucked fucking balls. Gent was one of the best concerts I saw of him, this was the worst. The festival itself was cool.

man I hope Sunday's good....I still have high hopes even after having seen all these reviews of night 1

It's gonna be a beautiful night... Wanna talk about it..

It was a different show compared to all the reviews I read about the ongoing tour. But besides the sound issue I did not regret going there.
There were these goosebumps moments for me like:
I did not dig why Janelle Monae was on stage at all. I enjoyed the song, but what did she actually do on stage? Wear her hat?
Something became obvious last night. We all don't get any younger either. Remember the good old times when the whole place was jumping because we knew how to do the quake? Last night we still knew but were too tired to jump.
I am looking forward to Sunday. And if there will only be one of these goosebumps moments, I'll be more than happy.

Co-Sign. P is putting on the best live show right now and when people are complaining that the shows are too loud, too many hits (WTF) and not enough hits (make up your mind) I think those people are getting too old to go to live concerts and maybe just need to get off the purple boat.

Great to see the org share my views on this show. This was by far the weirdest prince show I ever saw. Some random thoughts.
-Weird can be a good thing!
-Prince was very annoyed with the sound and lights ("Too bright, I ain't playing"). I thought he might exit the stage and fly home!
-Playing mostly covers for the first hour? Playing for 80% in the dark? Letting Maceo and the girls take the spotlight for an hour? Say what?
-Still, weird can be cool!
-I have been following P for some time now, but he played songs I never heard him do before. Heaven only knows? Where did this "thank you for letting me be myself" with lyrics came from? And yes, I was actually singing N-P-G-in the motherfucking house! Haha.
-NSJ screwed up the '2 doors opening up at the same time' deal that was mailed out a day before. Good to know they fixed this for saturday.
-Poor Janelle Monae. She didn't know what to do, she just stood there like a rabbit while the headlight came for her. Shelby was a class act for saving her, hugging, dancing and laughing with her.
-Actually Shelby was the one who was enjoying herself most and saved a lot of the show with her energy and happiness. And that coming from me, says a lot!
-Great to see Ida blushing when P stepped on her fuzz pedal and Larry gave her some attention and space to jam with him. Most of the show she was in the background, but she didn't miss a single cue. Really professional.
-That Peter Tea picture really captured the mood P was in!
-More of an aftershow than a regular show feel to it.
-Prince is weird. Still.

lol. You mean her head? I dont think i like that look on Shelby. I dig Ida the most and think Andy bring a younger element to the band that makes them not look so outdated and trying too hard. She and Ida make the band look funkier. If only he could find 3 more singers and musicians with more style and character to replace shelby and liv and cassandra, the band wouldnt look like a bunch of old codgers trying to live their glory days.

i disagree. they provide subtance and spine, experience and weight, professionalism and class.
the amateur shouldnt be there, unless marketing is more important than quality, which is often the case when putting on a show.
the other members have earned their place and worked hard to be where they are.
someone else got a free ticket.
thats showbiz.

This show was good, but it wasn't the best I saw of him. Saturday & sunday made everything good.

Saturday & Sunday were amazing! He gave his best to us.
I also laughed so much saturday. Andy was having so much fun, she inspired the rest of the band for laughter. At one time prince was drumming in the front, playing with his drumsticks and then threw one in the audiance. Then he was like: "O, shit, now I only have one drumstick " He went to the front audiance, gesturing Give me back my drumstick. He didn't get it back and he started laughing, throwing his other drumstick into the audiance too. Then he walked to the back of the stage, and got himself a pair of new drumsticks, and drummed again.
It was such a fun incident, showing Prince was jamming, spontaneous and had fun himself. He truly was very present and out there.
The way he does lead the band, however, also just goes with the flow of the band is great. Everybody seemed relaxed on stage, having fun making music, just the way music is intended to be. It's great to see that it's okay to be off once or twice on a note, that doesn't cause major stress in the band, and to see that the emphasis is on playing music and having fun instead of a flawless performance, made the whole concert so amazingly impressive and fun.
I loved the strict directed shows, however, these more loose, fun and real concerts, that allow more spontanuous moments and the band connecting with eachother in music, shows that these are great musicians, coached and inspired by a great man they respect a lot. That feeling was out there at the stage and that made these concerts so impressive and amazing.
I hope that the band and Prince enjoyed performing at NSJF as much as the audiance loved them!
99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.
