Being Caught With a Camera At a Prince Concert

Okay, so i know usually Prince dislikes having cameras at his shows.. what would happen if the security caught you with a camera? Would they take it? Also, do they even check for cameras at the gate?

Because i have been to countless (Non-Prince.. sadly) concerts, with signs that say "NO CAMERA'S!" and they dont even check, and you can just whip your camera out beside a security guard and they dont even care.. So what happen's at a Purple concert..? biggrin

They were very casual in LA at first... BUT, it quickly became much more severe....

I saw people have their memory cards erased or removed & some people asked to leave....

Just be discrete.. NO ONE likes a camera in their face...prince

DO NOT use a flash... & DO NOT hold the phone or camera up for an extended period of time... And if you're on an aisle or by security.... Be VERY cautious...

2 B honest, you just need to decide if it's more important 2 capture the moment or 2 just enjoy the moment...

Funny that Dr Funkenberry didn't mention that in his online play-by-play.

Also, on the last Friday show, Prince made that announcement right when the woman next to me in VIP was ignoring the show and on her cell phone. rolleyes

Something to keep in mind in case the situation ever arises...

The no photo limitation only applies to Prince's own concerts. IF he plays a festival, to some degree he is in the same boat as other artists at the festival. At most festivals I've been to pictures and video are allowed. I specifically went to Coachella so I could get video and pictures. Well, I got a bunch of video and 1 decent pic and I never had to worry about security. If I really wanted pictures I would see him at a festival. fingers crossed he does more of those stateside.

I'm so with Prince on this one. Concerts are being ruined by selfish cunts holding up there phones over and over again, trying to take crappy photos, all the while trashing someones view behind.

I found the solution. Just raise you hands in the air to cheer and knock the ifuckers phone flying. Its great fun watching someone getting on their hands and knees trying to find the pieces.

Right, and then you'd end up paying for that phone too.

Hows that? No one is going to pay for accidently knocking an object waved in the air at a concert. Especially if its not allowed to be there in the first place.

I've actually seen some pretty damn cool stuff as the result of people making videos. I'm talking about boots with audio from a good source and multiple angle shots made of videos people took and that way they managed to capture the entire concert from beginning 'til end.

The first one to try and knock my iPhone out of my hands will be on the floor on his hands and knees, picking up his teeth.

lol Better make sure you aren't in front of me then. You'll have no phone and a sore head. wink

As for footage, who cares if there has been good stuff filmed, its not right that is done at the expense of others who have paid good money to enjoy the show.

No problem with someone capturing what they want, as long as they don't spoil it for others.

I don't go to Prince concerts only to watch it through someones phone screen while I'm there. Ignorant, selfish wankers.

Riiiight.

Anyway, I'm not saying it's okay for people to have their cell up in the air for 2 hrs, but if someone wants to shoot a few clips it's cool with me. It's just how things are nowadays. Then there's also that asshole behind you whistling in your ear, the idiot next to you who's dancing like he's got the entire place to himself, the 6'6" guy in front of you...

A friend of mine was stopped after taking pics in the lobby by concessions. She had to check in her camera and get it back at the end of the show. There was no flash used, and no pics of the stage, show, Prince, nothing. No warning was given, and she was marched to a window by security to check in the camera. Luckily she wasn't thrown out completely. They did not play around.

I wouldn't risk it to be honest with you. You just never know. Not worth it.

I don't know if it varies from venue to venue or dependant on Prince's mood... but, when I saw Prince in Columbia in March, he seemed fine with the cell phones. I swear he even looked right into the lady next to me holding her cell camera up and playing into the camera--as if he was intentionally giving her good, personal footage. I mean, all of us standing near the VIP section/arrow got eye contact and great camera shots. Neither security nor Prince seemed to mind. P made several dramatic poses at the front of the arrow with his arms wide open, like he was giving everyone in the venue with a cell/camera an opportunity to get a great pic. He even had the whole place take our cell phones out and wave them from side to side through out the show...that was a cool sight---all these lights going back and forth.

I try not to disturb anyone with my cell... honestly, putting it right in front of my face or slightly above my head gets the shots I need without raising it up in front of anyone else.

I'm grateful to be able to have gotten pics/video footage. Experiencing the concert and then having some visual souvenir as a reminder is fun. Sorry that others have a problem with that.

I'm really torn - it's nice that everyone can get his or her own memory, but I went to a Kills show recently, stood there for an hour or so to make sure I was pretty far up, then as soon as the band came out, the three girls in front of me whipped out cameras and proceeded to video basically the whole show. Had to bob and weave to be able to see the band in person rather than through their annoying little display screens. The first couple Prince shows felt kind of similar - we're in loge, and this woman in front of us decides to hold up the camera every three second so my date can't see. We switch places, and I'm then next to a loud, off-key screamer-singer. WTF, is this just LA or everywhere? What do people do with hours of grainy, tiny video?

I'm usually too busy dancing to be able to film anything... Besides, most of the shows I go to are bootlegged anyways... I just let others do the work/take the risk for me....

And I'm grateful they do.... There is a line where it becomes annoying though.

I was glad that Prince mentioned something about people being disconnected from the show and life with their handheld technology but was a bit confused when he asked the crowd to pull out the phone and "call somebody." I am a straight up prehistoric concertgoer who goes to hear music, dance and enjoy the evening. I want to know what the deal is with those who sit through a show texting and filming. Why do you bother?
