Welcome 2 America? Poorly named Tour? Maybe it should've been "Welcome 2 New York, California, and Greenville, SC"
Ok, so "Carolina" would've made more sense in my dumb name. I was just hoping there would be some shows in Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, etc. It seems like Europe is getting him back. He said he had 3 albums finished, I hope he just puts them out.

In the euphoria of the 21 Night Stand, I think we Angelenos lost sight of that fact a month ago. Ironically, the meaning of Welcome 2 America has probably changed within our minds, as well. I'm not sure if one of his CDs is titled "Welcome 2 America" or not, but the song has been embedded in our heads, which I guess was the point of naming this particular tour.
But I'll be the first to admit, when he originally announced this tour, I expected him to perform throughout the United States. I'm sure this tour will be remembered for the 21 Night Stand and not much else when it's looked back upon.

He's not even consistently playing the W2A song at all/most of the shows, either!
Have you found that he mostly does W2A when he plays Dreamer?

I think I've heard W2A about 3 or 4 times on this tour . . . where are those setlists when you need them? lol . . . the last time, of course, at House of Blues. I kinda dismissed the song as more of a chant, so at first, I didn't pay much attention to it. But after hearing it again, for whatever # that time it was for me, and for whatever reason, I became intrigued with the lyrics. In fact, I've tried to search for them via the net. So I honestly don't remember if he goes into it during Dreamer or what. Hell, I don't even know if it's a legitimate song, because my first impression was that it was a promotional phrase for the tour? Or similar to his use of "It Ain't Over?" Is it an actual song that's been recorded?

The first mention that I've heard is from the Dec 18th show at MSG. I've yet to find a recorded version. Princevault assumes that there is a recording and mentions that it might possibly be intended for 20TEN Deluxe, which is nothing but rumor anyways.
I search for setlists on setlist.fm - but it is dependent on someone posting the setlists, so I'm sure stuff gets missed.
Here's what I found re: lyrics from another thread:
There have been a few different versions. As quoted by "L4OATheOriginal" from another post:
welcome 2 america welcome 2 america
welcome 2 america where u can get hired get fired and get 7 million dollars somebody is watching u welcome 2 america welcome 2 america we still got a lot 2 learn about race relations if ur in the mood 4 drama inbetween 911 and hurricane katrina and the election of barack obama somebody's watching u big brother is still in effect and if ur still getting hassled at the airport just remember who u elected welcome 2 america welcome 2 america
watching u watching me where the teachers only tell u half of what they know just 2 not keep u free now they got u wanting 2 drink some tea who me? the past 7 presidents b4 george washington making history i don't care what sly said everybody ain't a star ain't no one on rolling stone cover the big star is dead y'all
The above tends to be the closest to actual 'lyrics' whereas the one I saw on February 7 was a few words said to a different tune, but which may have been taken from the song itself. This one was put to the same riff as his song "100MPH" and was something along the lines of:
Welcome 2 america
Anyways - I haven't heard it any of the shows that I've been to and would like to hear it live at least once, especially if he uses it with Dreamer. We'll see if I get my wish this weekend!

I'm REALLY racking my brain trying to remember the specific times I've heard him perform it, if I were to guess, I would say once in Oakland, once at the Forum, once at Troubadour, and once at House of Blues. I know if you read the setlists in the org, after they get played around with a little bit, they are very accurate. The 21 Night Stand has put me on overload, so I refer back to the lists to differentiate the different nights. I've LOVED his performances of Dreamer, that's one of the songs that I've grown into liking a lot more per this tour. I'm pretty sure he'll play Dreamer this weekend, have absolutely (as you can tell) no clue about Welcome 2 America. Because he did a little of the Star Spangled Banner and even some of the music for America at House of Blues, there's reason to believe that "Welcome 2 America" is more conceptual than anything else. With that said, I would purchase a CD if it ever came about, because it seems like a recorded studio version would be very good.

dec 18 2010 seems 2 be the only time this song has been played in it's actual form. all other inclusions have been following dreamer and using the extend riff from dreamer.
there is a live verison of welcome 2 america from the dec 18th show out there
if any of the performances of this song outside of "dremer" then here is how u will know:
welcome 2 america is a slow bass pfunk style groove if any versions u have heard that are NOt slow pfunk type grooves then he could have changed the tempo or it's part of another groove with prince reciting the lyrics to the song.
now as the name of a tour ..TOTALLY MISLEADING cause even with musicology he did that song every night..this harkens back to one night alone tour tho it was more about no more than possible 3 nights "alone" with prince in a city than a 21 night stand ..OOPS it won't even be 21 nights in LA now man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
