Afterparty waaay too many d bags. P rocked in about 1.30am and was in a great mood laughing and watching Nikka Costa who was playing in the forum club at the time.
Thats when way too many ppl started making ppl nervous by not acting cool and being total loons. He split- walked right past me. Didn't come back- needs to ditch these posers who get in and have no idea how to behave [Edited 5/28/11 10:18am] Say Brothers...Can I get some credit...NO?!?!?

GDB said: Well, THAT was...brutal.
I wanted to read some other reviews or comments before I wrote...in fact I'm debating whether or not I'm even in the proper space to offer my thoughts. Maybe I should sleep this one off and let my mind recover for a minute.
The setlist is accurate from Funkenberry's tweets but in the interest of consistency with my past posts:
Show began approximately 9:25...for the first time that I've seen there was no gameplay with the houselights teasing on and off. I came in late for Nikka's set so I don't know if she started late or went over...but the crew frantically changed over the stage after she ended so I knew there wouldn't be the typical wait before Prince came on. He came out alone to a darkened stage, made his way 'round the perimeter and ended at the piano where he performed the now-dreaded samples first, instead of as an encore. I've read where he did that in other cities but this was...interesting and weird at the same time. The audience seemed to LOVE it. I wondered, why the hell is Prince doing karoake when he has a world-class band capable of jamming on the fly who could just PLAY THE FUCKING SONGS?
See, I told you I shouldn't be writing this now.
I mean...see, it makes no sense to me now. There are NO $25 seats anymore. There is NO casual walk up to the window or casual login to Ticketmaster to get prime low to mid-loge seats for the price of a good lunch. This was an EVENT. Too many people, Hollywood-type bigwig/VIP laden crowd. The neighborhood riff-raff were kept out tonight; our time has come and gone. The ticket window ladies were surly, nasty. The friendly, comfortable vibe that had made this Forum engagement so...wonderful, was gone. This should not have taken place in Inglewood, this was strictly a Staples or Nokia-level event. The 'hood that George Lopez so lovingly namechecked when he brought Prince out on opening night has somehow been forgotten, those roots forsaken along the way. This was corporate night.
Why is Prince charging $70 to get into the door just to hear him sing partial lyrics over recorded tracks..?
Anyway...
KAROAKE SET:
When Doves Cry (most of the song) Nasty Girl Sign O' the Times Alphabet Street Forever In My Life Darling Nikki (if I hear him say one mo' gin "I can't sing this song, I'm in rehab!!!" I think I'm goinng to murder someone) Hot Thing I Would Die 4 U
CONCERT:
DMSR Pop Life Musicology/Prince & the band w/ Maceo Parker (the great, GREAT MAY-CEE-OHHHH) Shhhhh w/ U Will Be With Me (sans guitar, featuring Maceo) Interlude: Renato Prince joins in interlude on guitar Take Me With U Anotherloverholeinyourhead w/ Rock Lobster Peach Cool w/ Don't Stop... Let's Work U Got The Look Make U Feel My Love Purple Rain
Encores:
A Love Bizarre w/ Nikka Costa Controversy
Disco Heat Baby I'm A Star Kiss
Nothing Compares 2 U (w/ Shelby J)
Sigh.
A good show, I guess...not a great one by any means but certainly not terrible...a bit short on length, a bit short on songs...way too short on guitar for my preference...highlights for me? Anotherloverholeinyourhead and Peach because the rockstar Prince is my favorite iteration of him...Cool was strong and rocked hard...I'm looking at my notes and wondering if I left off any songs because man, does that feel light. Maybe I'm spoiled. Maybe I've reached a point of saturation. I've experienced ten of the thirteen Forum shows including tonight, one of the Troubadour sets and the second House Of Blues show and maybe I'm full now because usually I'm happy, excited, ecstatic after a show and tonight I'm just...not. But it wasn't a poor performance. Prince exerted a lot of energy tonight...danced a lot, worked the crowd. I don't know what it is. Maybe beginning with the karoake threw me. Maybe it was the drunken crowd around me. Maybe it was the pushy woman who finagled her way into an empty seat next to me and seemed put off because I wasn't nice to her...hell, she was interrupting my flow...who got straight gaffled by one of Prince's security for videotaping during "Anotherlover..." and was PUT THE FUCK OUT OF THE FORUM. Yes. Dude straight called over two or three blue shirts and said she's out. He was considerate enough to come back and apologize to me for the interruption which was nice, but I digress...
I loved the laid back environment where it felt like it was a personal little show in a big room in my backyard, where I could go without a lot of preparation and stress, enjoy a fantastic view, hear a fantastic performance, get something new and different every time and never feel full. In fact, I looked forward to the next one.
This felt like just another concert to me...that should have been downtown instead of in my 'hood. I resented the intrusion. [Edited 5/28/11 2:20am] U know, I feel u I do, I was on the floor tho like I said & it was difficult to get a feel for the full show experience but it seemed different. The disco roller skate stuff was pretty terrible I thought. my friend said it was just stupid. I told her it looked like they just learned how to use those then I told her I picture Prince coming out around noon & said, here, Twinz, these are for 2nite! i picture them practicing in the driveway all afternoon hahaha. Stupid, I know, sorry. Being so close to VIP I really couldn't see who was in the house as far as your comment about that (celeb filled). U know I have to say I attended May 14 & I felt like I could literally see Prince feeding off the crowds energy & he was giving it right back but for some reason it kinda scared me for a split second, like what is this really doing to him? I mean i like to think it's all positive and that he's opening up a bit & growing creatively (even tho it's a "classics" show hes done some very interesting things with them) but I've lost MY mind pretty much during this 21nite stand...I'm truly obsessed again.....so what about him? Really I don't think Prince has control over all the ticket prices and It's closing weekend, I expected the ticket game would get crazier and someone's gonna try to make lots of bucks. I do however think Wednesday night HOB was all him tho & prices were outrageous. I really hope we find out the charity & it affirms that it was a good idea. I def got my $'s worth at the 7pm show so no complaints whatsoever, I LOVED IT, one of my BEST Prince experiences for sure, but times are hard right now so I hope it goes to someone, anyone in need. Yes I agree these late night after show posts are probably not the best idea for me too but I probably wouldn't do them at all if not (maybe a good idea in my case) but they're fresh & raw & that's how u felt, so be it. Sorry I was blinded by the unbuttoned red shirt & limited visibility on the floor so I didn't see/feel what u did. I'm sorry u didn't enjoy it like I did. Maybe it's good I was on the floor after all! Oh actually I thought the sampler set at the beginning was a nice change, it gave the casual fans what they want & brings the energy up getting the crowd off their feet & movin' & grooving from the get go. Of course I would love to hear live long versions, & even tho I've seen it too many times i still think it's interesting & fun for most. We're the hardcore fans we want the obscure stuff that we discovered & loved & blew us away that NEVER got played on the radio that would prove bitches wrong about him but in a way he has to do that sampler. The casual fans LOVE & expect it probably. It was a bit strange I agree & threw me off a little to see it first & I wondered what the 1st timer I brought was thinking anxious for her to see the real musician stuff. Made me curious as heck about the closing which was Kiss so no surprise there. The big surprise of the night for me (besides shirt of course) was the 1977 speech which was different and.....hmmmm, not sure, but I generally liked it. I'll shut up now, goodnight/good morning.

YES ALL DAY NO LUCK SUCKED. every hour thinking this is the hour it'll all change & you're gonna get those tix right? Me too all day. But thanks to the bronzest funkiest Orger, bronzefunk, i was using the LiveNation App that he hipped me to on Wednesday when he was delivering my Golden Ticket to Wednesdays HOB show, it was a lot less painful & actually came thru for me at 5:15pm while I was also trying TM at least 4 times on my desktop with no luck, no $25 hits at all while the 9 minutes was counting down on my app. I was checking to see what else might show up before I hit "Buy" on the App. I actually lost them for a second too cuz I hit out of the App to attempt to text my girlfriend to confirm she was ok with Floor seats taking her 1st timer mom & almost had a coronary but when I went back in they popped up & all day when I left the app earlier it would say "u left the App, your tix were released." those tix were meant for me & my friends. Sometimes I have good luck with timing. But again all thanks & appreciation to bronzefunk, he rocks!

Less than 2 weeks from 53 - he is in fantastic shape! If I had seen this live, I would've been screaming myself hoarse in the Forum like I was a teenaged girl again! THANK U Bronzefunk!!!!

i can also do without that teaser sample "kareoke" set, but if he's gonna play it, i'd rather have him get it over with and do it in the beginning of the show. the crowd seemed to love it last night (probably cause they were all newbies).

THATS WHAT I DID, I SCREAMED LIKE A GIRL, girl & I am a girl! Dang. I would scream that hi-pitched scream and go "I'm sorry" to my friends & people around me then do it AGAIN & say I'm sorry AGAIN. No control, no p-control! Hee hee Only right when it 1st happened then i was able to ctrl myself with a fairly appropriate level of decorum. It was GRRRReat! Ow-uh, ow-uh.

Thank you so much from me too Bronzfunk! I was in Riser One and had a clear, close unobstructed view and I was just hoping someone captured this moment. I would've tried with my camera phone, but I was waaaay to caught up in my emotional reactions to his Purpleness ripping open his shirt unexpectedly like that and then coming down that runway . . . Whoa!
This was Purple Funk Fest # 6 for me! I cannot get enough of his genius. I thought NIkki Costa was fantastic. And His guitar work was pure perfection last night! Much thanks and appreciation Prince!

^ I agree.
This was my 6th show and I think I enjoyed this show the most out of my run (I wasn't in attendance at the epic opening weekend show). Aside from specific "moments" at other shows, this one as a whole kept me entertained the entire time.
It's hard to believe the run is almost over. When I entered the Forum last night it felt like home.

I really enjoyed the sampler set. For the first time I can remember, he sung the second verse of both WDC and SOTT with minimum crowd participation. I was happy with that. There was way too little guitar.
Was it just me or did he seem uncomfortable with the red strat? Peach was cool though.
Anyways, has anyone mentioned the dancing grandma yet? She killed.
If probably would've been up to "standard length" if he threw in Inglewood Swingin' and Play that funky music. Did anyone miss those?

I agree... Thought starting off with the sampler set was pretty cool. Especially because he did longer versions of most of the tracks... I too missed the his guitar, but Maceo was a treat.
I met someone who said that he had been getting fined for playing so late... I have NO idea if this is true. Just thought it was interesting...
Overall, a damn good show.

So.....I got those mysterious Section J tix at 5:15 on TM online after trying all day long. I just bought them without even looking - glad to have a low-priced pair and be in the door.
Tickets ended up being right next to where Prince walks in and out. At times it was too close to see everything; at other times Prince was so close you could almost touch him.
A little way through we headed up into some empty loge seats which were a better view, but then the true seat owners came back, so we went back down to the floor. Everyone was super mellow about seats and I got no negative crowd vibe at all. But there were really almost no empty seats in the entire place. You really had to be in your assigned seat.
I definitely like DMSR as an opener more than a sampler set, but I try not to let the sampler set bother me. You take the good with the bad. I had a great time. Seeing Prince rip on that guitar and do that Kiss dance breakdown from a few feet away (rather than on a screen) was worth the price of admission alone.
And then there was the woman, probably someone's grandmother, who boogied down during Controversy. She had the Forum going nuts. Probably the best moment of the show. Out on the concourse as people were leaving, I saw her again with a crowd around her, all giving her another round of applause. That was the spirit of the crowd I saw - positive and life-embracing.
Wasn't the best show, but I'm surprised at some of the negative posts. I think people are maybe burned out seeing a similar show too many times. As for quibbling over tickets, even the full priced $180 tickets are lower than what many bands charge these days. Police, Steely Dan, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, U2, Simon and Garfunkel, CSNY....all of these have charged $250 or more for any semi-decent seat. I feel grateful to have seen basically four shows for the price of a half of a show, often from fantastic seats.
Probably back on Sunday. If you're going, be like 90 percent of the audience and just dance, sing, and have a good time.

I totally agree with all posts re last night. Some great fun moments, some very cool moments( shirt, his trash talking when things are cool)
Spoke to the 'mom' as P called her...'where's the mom at?' when he first saw her he raised his eyebrows and did his funny look.. Looking straight down at us. Was hilarious. Also during controversy he looked down and smiled at us. He was havin a ball So not sure what happened at the aftershow but it's the same story..same as HOB. Not real fans, waay too drunk ( at the afterparty spoke to some1 who saw my symbol tattoo and asked what song I wanted to hear and when I said Bambi she though I made that up for a laugh...) Hope there's a nicer crowd sunday night [Edited 5/28/11 10:30am] Say Brothers...Can I get some credit...NO?!?!?
