I've thought for a while they were doing an experiment with "dynamic pricing". I'm sure they are running charts every day wanting to know where the revenue is maxed out.
Since the cheap seats are all sold out, it's actually a good time for them to hold the line on ticket prices.

Gotta be some kinda mix-up there, I just refuse to believe that Prince would be like that. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I love Mayte but why shouldn't she pay she's not his wife anymore....what's the confusion?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It just seems wrong to me. I wouldn't do that to an ex unless they tried to kill me before or something.
I still don't think that was really Prince's doing, anyway. Some nimrod who works for him probably wasn't paying attention like they should and mistakenly told her she'd have to pay to get in.

Can Dr Funkenbury please stop twittering, and start watching and enjoying the concert.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
OMG!!! You're told to pay because, let's see:
- Because you are going to a concert just like thousand other concert goers...? - Because the people on stage playing are actually working...? - Because you can afford to pay...? - Because it's good manners to offer what it costs instead of expecting a free ride...?
Just pay what it costs like everybody else! At least you got approved to hang in the 'VIP celebrity circle'. Isn't that what you wanted anyway!?
Sorry, but stuff like this makes me mad Oh, blue light...

She WAS married to Prince and I'm sure she made away like a fat cat. Why should'nt she have 2 pay.] Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Just got back from the show. The place was BEYOND crowded. Not a lot of empty seats in the colonade.

Well, THAT was...brutal.
I wanted to read some other reviews or comments before I wrote...in fact I'm debating whether or not I'm even in the proper space to offer my thoughts. Maybe I should sleep this one off and let my mind recover for a minute.
The setlist is accurate from Funkenberry's tweets but in the interest of consistency with my past posts:
Show began approximately 9:25...for the first time that I've seen there was no gameplay with the houselights teasing on and off. I came in late for Nikka's set so I don't know if she started late or went over...but the crew frantically changed over the stage after she ended so I knew there wouldn't be the typical wait before Prince came on. He came out alone to a darkened stage, made his way 'round the perimeter and ended at the piano where he performed the now-dreaded samples first, instead of as an encore. I've read where he did that in other cities but this was...interesting and weird at the same time. The audience seemed to LOVE it. I wondered, why the hell is Prince doing karoake when he has a world-class band capable of jamming on the fly who could just PLAY THE FUCKING SONGS?
See, I told you I shouldn't be writing this now.
I mean...see, it makes no sense to me now. There are NO $25 seats anymore. There is NO casual walk up to the window or casual login to Ticketmaster to get prime low to mid-loge seats for the price of a good lunch. This was an EVENT. Too many people, Hollywood-type bigwig/VIP laden crowd. The neighborhood riff-raff were kept out tonight; our time has come and gone. The ticket window ladies were surly, nasty. The friendly, comfortable vibe that had made this Forum engagement so...wonderful, was gone. This should not have taken place in Inglewood, this was strictly a Staples or Nokia-level event. The 'hood that George Lopez so lovingly namechecked when he brought Prince out on opening night has somehow been forgotten, those roots forsaken along the way. This was corporate night.
Why is Prince charging $70 to get into the door just to hear him sing partial lyrics over recorded tracks..?
Anyway...
KAROAKE SET:
When Doves Cry (most of the song) Nasty Girl Sign O' the Times Alphabet Street Forever In My Life Darling Nikki (if I hear him say one mo' gin "I can't sing this song, I'm in rehab!!!" I think I'm goinng to murder someone) Hot Thing I Would Die 4 U
CONCERT:
DMSR Pop Life Musicology/Prince & the band w/ Maceo Parker (the great, GREAT MAY-CEE-OHHHH) Shhhhh w/ U Will Be With Me (sans guitar, featuring Maceo) Interlude: Renato Prince joins in interlude on guitar Take Me With U Anotherloverholeinyourhead w/ Rock Lobster Peach Cool w/ Don't Stop... Let's Work U Got The Look Make U Feel My Love Purple Rain
Encores:
A Love Bizarre w/ Nikka Costa Controversy
Disco Heat Baby I'm A Star Kiss
Nothing Compares 2 U (w/ Shelby J)
Sigh.
A good show, I guess...not a great one by any means but certainly not terrible...a bit short on length, a bit short on songs...way too short on guitar for my preference...highlights for me? Anotherloverholeinyourhead and Peach because the rockstar Prince is my favorite iteration of him...Cool was strong and rocked hard...I'm looking at my notes and wondering if I left off any songs because man, does that feel light. Maybe I'm spoiled. Maybe I've reached a point of saturation. I've experienced ten of the thirteen Forum shows including tonight, one of the Troubadour sets and the second House Of Blues show and maybe I'm full now because usually I'm happy, excited, ecstatic after a show and tonight I'm just...not. But it wasn't a poor performance. Prince exerted a lot of energy tonight...danced a lot, worked the crowd. I don't know what it is. Maybe beginning with the karoake threw me. Maybe it was the drunken crowd around me. Maybe it was the pushy woman who finagled her way into an empty seat next to me and seemed put off because I wasn't nice to her...hell, she was interrupting my flow...who got straight gaffled by one of Prince's security for videotaping during "Anotherlover..." and was PUT THE FUCK OUT OF THE FORUM. Yes. Dude straight called over two or three blue shirts and said she's out. He was considerate enough to come back and apologize to me for the interruption which was nice, but I digress...
I loved the laid back environment where it felt like it was a personal little show in a big room in my backyard, where I could go without a lot of preparation and stress, enjoy a fantastic view, hear a fantastic performance, get something new and different every time and never feel full. In fact, I looked forward to the next one.
This felt like just another concert to me...that should have been downtown instead of in my 'hood. I resented the intrusion. [Edited 5/28/11 2:20am]

HIGHLIGHT Prince unbuttons red silky shirt & dances around for like 20-30 minutes, not just a quick peekaboo). Me & my girlfriend stumbling over ourselves pulling out iPhones. I got a teeny bit of video & quality probably not great & Security promptly tapped us on the shoulder with a (one for me, one for her). I wanted to tell him "BUT PRINCES SHIRT IS OFF!!!" I can't remember the last time I saw that. And the Rock God portion on Peach & another (i forget) was SOO SOOO AWESOME. brought the house down. If it wasn't for the shirt I think that was my fav part. Oh then he buttoned the bottom button only & top still open & performed like that for a while. Nice, very nice. Go ahead Prince make yourself at home. Prince shows LA Love. I loved how he talked so much about 1977. Just fun to have him talk to us so much even if he was schoolin' us & our social networking ways. Oh & when he was all over the twin, her between him & the guitar (I missed exactly how she got in there cause i was on the floor - floor B 4 tix for $25 about 5:15pm today BTW, the ticket waiting game sucked today right y'all?! I lucked OUT!) my girlfriends hit me on each side saying " GET OFF HIM!" "GET OFF MY MAN!" all jealous & mad & $hit & me: Eyes bugging out trying to SEE his MOVES, what he was doing to her, damn, I'll watch (Alphabet Street, which he played 2nite BTW) I ain't mad at ya Prince. Go ahead do that thang! Whew! HE WAS HOT 2NITE GIRLS. I'm ecstatic I got my two best girls (& my girls mom) $25 tix 2nite. it was all my girl & her mom could afford & I bought the other one for my other girl for her birthday. Prince's red shirt unbuttoned, now that's a Bday present! Good to see my 2 new Orger buddies after the show. Super nice guys! I scored on the tix but Floor B Row 8 is not my style so much. It WAS cool when he was at the tip of arrow & other times but music sound not as great & doesn't give the whole show xperience. For some reason the crowd sound was great down there. All in all good tix for $25 but I prefer Loge. Prince was doing his thang & I know I missed some of his moves/words due to limited visibility & poorer/less clear sound. When he & Shelby (who I met at HOB Wednesday, whee)broke into "Nothing Compares 2 U" I leaned over & told my girlfriend "That'll be our song when he leaves" it hit her hard & after that song was over she was a bit teary eyed poor girl! I'm a jerk! Going to TRY my best to NOT get a ticket for tomorrow, I like me some Mary J. (Going Down & Too Strong for Too Long) but I need to take a break. I'll be back in full force (& at full Price! on Sunday). Night!

It was alot of people slipping into seats that wasn't theirs, it happened to me.. I felt like crap leaving this show and thats my fault but dang.. How did Nikka Costa get away with saying oh sh** that many times. The weed smell gave me a headache and we paid more for a shorter show. I think we got spoiled. lol I followed the crowd outside the nightclub and talked to them.. but you know wasn't no way I was going to get in. Well overall, this is my last show of the tour.. and all I got to say is.... G'Nite yall. Best part: I don't know... his shirt opened and I was like woahhh O.o keep it off for a while because its hot in here Maceo jammin on that sax, Prince's "momma" schoolin the youngsters well... I say it was short and that made me sad because I paid 55 tonight, I was going to pay 100 but the lady found better seats. Sadly some of you would say thats still great, but for me.. college students I think its gonna take some meals away oh well thats life right I still love him, but don't get me wrong Prince, you cutting the show that short makes me want to buy a boot from ross and I won't finish that. But hey, you're prob burnt out, I understand... thanks for the good memories.. wish I would have got in the club dangit. Nikka Costa was humpin the air and shaking her arse more than any stripper in the USA but the chicks got soul and funk. Have fun everyone, I think I need a break now myself, should have went to the HOB for 100 or 200 to finish it off. Maybe if I get famous one day... yeah right, but maybe, I'll be up on that stage doing the bump with Prince and letting people come into the aftershow with me night yall, I ain't going to sleep, got a paper to knock out. I will be singing around the world in a day and empty room has been changed to "empty wallet" lol.
I won't purchase that boot but I am thankful for those awesome shows, truly was a blessing [Edited 5/29/11 9:07am]
