goodness that blows for people who paid $530! i would have preferred him doing all 3 shows on the main stage so we could at least see and have more dance room.
you would think he would have more compassion for sightlines since he is tiny like alot of us. if we get a tall tree in front of us, our view is jacked and we tippy toe all night just to see a shot of him.

And Right next to me - Im sure I spoke to you guys...Long haired dude with Symbol tattoo on wrist
Anyways It's disapointing to hear ppl had a bad time at this show as it was totally stupendous. He killed it again. I debated that after the Troubadour he couldn't top it...but I was wrong. A continually incompariable artist
Say Brothers...Can I get some credit...NO?!?!?

Hello, British guy. I was not one of the ladies in the front row. I was one of the guys you were chatting up in line before the show (reality tv). Don't let my online handle fool you. I'm a dude (rah!). You looked like you were having a blast, though. Shelby got right up in your face!

yes, more times than i can count. never saw anyone perform at the restaurant but plenty of times on the main stage. i've stood all over for other shows. on the floor up front, on the sides, in the back, up in the balcony. never had a problem before.

Yeah, I think we spoke briefly. Couldn't agree more about his 'offstage' antics...on sites like this, you tend to forget that, in many respects, he's very human in many ways. There were moments when he looked really angry, others when he was kidding around or just having a normal conversation... Not the first time I've been up close to him but I always get the distinct impression that he's just looking right through us the moment he gets back on stage... he could really interact with the guys offstage but as soon as he was singing into the mic or playing a solo, there was no eye contact, no interaction, no acknowledgement of the people showing him love. It's almost like he was just playing for himself and we happened to be in the same room. Not saying I want him to interact more (hell, I'm there for the guitar solos)...I just find it a little odd.

I was standing next to Dr. F. He was tweeting up a storm, so I'm surprised not to read a lot of comments per his tweets. I mean EVERY song that Prince started, tweet tweet tweet. I kinda felt bad, because he appeared in work-mode (great for us) more than fun-mode. I tried to make the experience more sociable for him w/convo...cool, well informed guy I must say...so hopefully, I was successful. Btw, GREAT view from VIP area upstairs to watch Prince and the band perform. Full, clear perspective of every one on stage.

Ok, that makes sense. I think there's only ONE consensus when it comes to going to see Prince. Tell me if you agree. The more intimate the experience, the better the experience is. With all the disagreements, name calling, arguing, foolishness, incompetence, and misinformation that sometimes appears in prince.org, I would have to say that NO ONE has ever had less than a great time when they've seen a small (below 1,000) venue Prince show and have been upclose and personal. So, my take is, Prince wants to be intimate with his music and he's constantly trying to figure out how to create an intimate experience for his audience. If I ever had a gripe with how Prince handles these type of affairs, it would be more per the tardiness, but not the venues, themselves, or even where he plays in the venues.
Before the 2nd show started, as I stood in front of the pillar, I was thinking to myself how are all these people going to see and what was Prince thinking when he stood by the window and said : 'I want to play right here.' I can understand some frustration, but I think people have to approach shows with open minds when it comes to Prince. I was fortunate, because I entered the restaurant before going into the main hall, so I saw the setup. I'm going to assume that you didn't see the setup in advance. Right when the 1st show ended, I knew I had to move quickly. At the end of the night, I much preferred the 2nd show; I'm interested in getting more peoples' feedback that attended both.

Yep, that was me. AND, I want to say, once again, all the orgers I met were very cool....really, really cool people...reminds me of the Celebration days, I might cry.....

2nd show was way better than the 1st in my opinion. If only for that insane guitar playing on 'bambi' alone. Very similar in vibe to the troubadour 2nd show. And it was probably better than the 3rd as well. First show was good, but a little too similar to the forum shows for my taste. I wanted songs that weren't on the forum setlists.

Aww, I wish I spent more time hanging with you guys at the show. I had a great time chatting with people in line, and I'm glad the show was as electric as it was!

However, did anyone make it to the third show? Haven't heard any reports on it yet.

Bambi was sick, wasn't it? Wow again. He kept getting deeper into it....and I was like he's going deeper, deeper....ok that's it, can't go any deeper....and then, he took it to another level after taking it to another level. Do you think it was possible for him to get that sound in the main room? Because I was wondering to myself why he couldn't combine shows 1 and 2 into a $325 show and maybe send the background singers away for the guitarfest portion. But in my opinion, the sound would have been different. I don't know how he was able to even determine the acoustics in the restaurant would be so good, but that's the magic of House of Blues, I guess, because it really sounded good in there. I agree that the 1st show was similar to the Forum shows. If I had to choose one or the other, I would take the House of Blues, but after going to the Forum 11 times, could have used a little more imagination in my opinion, but still great time.

Overall, an enjoyable experience in a very odd performance space. I can only imagine what shorter folks were seeing (if anything). Half way into the set, the crush of humanity became too much for me. I even had one "Realtor" squeeze in front of me... I will however give him props on his motivation for doing so (see ya Friday bro.). I retreated to the rear of the room to hang out with Morris Hayes (who didn't play the "Jazz Cafe" set). Also, given the volume, it was much more comfortable sound wise back there. Man, oh man - I hope these surface at some point. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The cool thing about being around prince orgers is that they know Prince music. My connection with everyone is THE MUSIC. The people that gush over being looked at, or some of what I consider... just an opinion...to be trivial matters, I don't really relate to.
I'm all for going on the Prince journey with people when it's about the music, because that's his gift to the world. I stand by my statement that I believe he expects us to challenge him and take him to places he, and very few others, can only go musically. So...when people do the ass-kissing, meaning praising EVERY SINGLE THING HE DOES, I think its a disservice to him and to all of us. But when we respectfully compare and discuss our experiences, musical tastes, and how his art affects us as people, I think it's the ultimate in stimulation. Prince responds to us and he responds to energy; all human beings do. When he titled these performances, I laughed to myself, because I knew the "Jazz Cafe" was a response to us, not some type of legitimate theme. Prince will not allow anyone to pigeonhole him and I'm grateful that he doesn't. He takes people on goose chases that want to go on goose chases, but I sincerely think some of us have found a great balance with accepting, receiving, rejecting, embracing, inspiring, and being inspired by his work and performances. I look forward to chatting at the next show.

No. Am crazy but not that crazy. I was in town on work and everything just fell into place like it was supposed to happen. I didn't plan for ANY of this, which is what makes it so great and even more surreal!

I had a great time, so if I had any effect on making yours less enjoyable, please let me know. You can already see I'm very hard on some people, so definitely don't want to be a hypocrite. The girl to my right was making me laugh the whole time; she was being a standup comedian to the fullest extent. I don't know if you witnessed the bar episodes, between the guy that they kept saying was in a Bud Light commercial and everyone else, pretty funny stuff. But quarters were tight, it got pretty hot, until they got a professional to operate the air conditioning. See you Friday.

Thanks! I was the guy with the goatee and black rimmed glasses leaning on the post behind you. The man right in front of me was the one Shelby J (!) sang to. I took two pics early on, and didn't look at them until this morning and found this surprise. The other was a complete blur.

A tiny mention here about last night: http://blogs.ocweekly.com...the_ho.php
"According to gossip blogger Dr Funkenberry, a very devoted Prince follower, Bono was at the third of Prince's House of Blues shows on Sunset last night. He told us, "Prince called him out one time but he did not come out. What could have been." Still, it was definitely a star-studded affair.
And thanks everybody for your reports/pics! [Edited 5/26/11 15:02pm]
