Any fellow Brits NOT bothering with Hop farm?

Am I the only 1 on here really not arsed about this gig. I was totally into the whole 21 nights in London but watching how the LA gigs are petering out into farce i.e. crap promotion, evidently poor ticket sales [his golden egg has finally hatched!!], cancelled gigs at the last minute has really put me off. Also the thought of the location [middle of bloody nowhere], stuck in a field, more than likley crap weather, ball ache of a late gig+getting back and the chance of a cancellation all leads me to think to that I too much of an old bastard for this one!!. Also the though of LG as support + the hits again!!.

So, am I an old misery or am i in good company!!.confused

No gigs where tickets were sold in LA has been cancelled. Some rumored gigs have failed to pan out is all. That should not be a surprise.

None of the other issues you mention are affecting the fan base except to make it easier and cheaper to get into the gigs. The fact that 21 nights in an arena have not all sold out should be surprising to no one. It's not a comment on the music or the experience people are having, just a comment that perhaps his fame is declining after 20 years with no hits, well duh. I don't go to gigs to feel part of something famous and exclusive, I go to have a nice time.

This series has been nothing but great for the people of LA.

Never in a million years would I think that orgers would complain because the ticket prices are too low WFT For years P charges high prices and got away with it. He brings the price down and people bitch and make up fake stories that shows are being cancelled again WTF.

If the shows are not selling out so what. He is still performing the advertised shows and people are going to muliple shows and enjoying themselves. I see this whole thing as win/winl

Something a little worse than old misery, but you'll get over it. In 1985, when Prince was peaking per commercial success, he did SIX nights at the Forum in Los Angeles.....ONLY six during his scintillating Purple Rain Tour. He's been briefed on this experiment and again, for the sixth time in the org, the 21 Night Stand is a gift to people that appreciate his quality music. With that said, I love open forums, so why don't you provide us with alternatives to seeing him rather than bitching and moaning?

Not sure where you're getting your information that the 21 nights in LA are "petering out into farce".

Sure, he's not selling out every night, but, IMO, the run has actually picked up momentum.

The second & third weekday shows were smaller... But they were fantastic sets.

Last weekend was jammin' & the Troubadour was like winning the lottery.

You're not alone. I don't do farms, cowpats and tents. Fuck that shit. I like my home comforts too much.

Plus this'll just be a boring hits set.

Wrong. The "Rock over germany" gigs in 1993 were proper festivals. Believe me, I was there.

And even if they weren't on a field, I count the gigs at the Mill City Festival in 1999 and the Hongkong Harbour Fest in 2003 as well.

Rock over germany in munich was on an former airport, lots of vegetation, it was rainy and muddy.

Rock over germany in Wildenrath was in a field ( a former airbase) and the weather was fine. They both had a great vibe.

I hope you enjoy your experience, but it is not his very first festival gig.

Oh, and what about Roskilde? Doesn't that count as well? And if no, why?

I'm from Kent. Grew up there worshipping Prince in my formative years. Would've absolutely loved it if he'd played a gig in Kent back then. Which of course was unlikely back in his 80's 90's heyday. So I moved to Australia 2 years ago, and now he goes and does a gig in Kent. Sods law! Still, got to see 21 nights in London before I left and my dream of seeing aftershow, so those memories will live with me. Have fun at the Hop farm if you go. I would go if I was still back in Kent. I reckon he'll switch up the setlist from the recent US shows.

Firstly, I am going, but I can see how people might not be able to given the price - I am fortunate enough to be reasonably comfortable now so can drive down from lancashire, pay for me bird and a hotel and probably a butty or two on the way. However, I couldn't even afford the reasonably priced tickets for earlier tours when I was at uni. As for in the middle of nowhere, I'd say hardly...Tonbridge Wells isn't far away...come on, in the UK unless ur in the Highlands and maybe parts of Wale you're never really in the middle of nowhere. I think short notice and price will see a few people off - which is a real shame, but might it also put off the so called 'casual' fan? Cya there brothers and sisters. Mikey

This is his first UK festival guys so it's important!

And he's been good to us UK fans recently in terms of free music and the 02 gigs so I don't expect this to be any different.

The venue is also nearer London than any other festival site for all the tight ones and it doesn't discriminate for people that couldn't get tix, ie if he played Glasto it would have been a pain as many couldn't get tickets!!

I understand what you mean about getting to a certain age and being too old to rough it in a field. When the tickets went on sale on Thursday I was determined to resist as I too am at that age where I love a little bit of comfort.

However by Firday morning when there were still tickets on the Hop Farm website I loaded two tickets into my basket and got to the checkout. Just before putting in my payment details I googled some reviews of the Hop Farm Festival 2010 and could not find a good word said about the organisation or facilities. Totally turned me off again and I didn't buy the tickets. It's not for me.

But I totally understand everyone who is going and back in the day I would have been there no question. I have done my fair share of roughing it for P. The first time I saw him was at Wembley in 86. Being poor students at the time we slept on the coach station after the gig as we couldn't afford anywhere else. We were at Bagley's Warehouse and anyone who was there all night will know it wasn't the best of venues, but the show was awesome!

Since that he has spoilt us with front row tickets through Controversy, soundchecks and aftershows att the O2.

I will have to avoid the Org in the week before the festival as I know the performance will be fantastic. But I know all of you there will have a ball and look forward to reading all about it on the Org. Have fun all!
