Great playlist! I'm jealous!

If the set list posted above is complete, then it is only 12 songs Prince really sang lead on. 13 if you count the usual lazy one verse version of Raspberry Beret. I would doubt he "sang most of When Doves Cry." Now, if the guy posting the set list forgot a few things, fine...but this looks like a lazy concert that wasn't long enough, unless you got the cheap seats.

I doubt P could play late. They had to take the stage apart and get the trucks on the road for the San Jose show setup.

I agree, they are playing in San Jose 2nite so he had to go. Plus we haven't heard about the after party if there was one..... The tweets aren't complaining, they seem positive. Some are reporting "Best Concert Ever" and how much love they have for Prince and their gratitude. A "lazy concert" from Prince probably still includes electrifying moments for those in attendance.

Oh Lawd, am I that poster now? I gotta defend Prince when someone says anything slightly sideways about him. Ahhh, I got it bad. These 21 nites got me feigning.

I'm sorry if it hurts but I've said it before and I'll say it again, Prince has love for LA and shows us love and spoils us. Also, I'm thinking he wants the Fresno people to want it so bad they gotta get that San Jose ticket. It's only a 3 hour drive..... eek Careful, it's super addicting.

Easily. I didn't check my watch, but I'd say more. He was on early - no opener, probably started around 8:30 or so.

I know I'm a newbie to the concert experience, but I thought it was awesome.

P came out at 8:40 and finished around 10:10-10:15. I was a bit disappointed he didn't play longer but I thought the crowd was roaring and I also felt it was a very good show! I had a lot of friends attend who had never been to a Prince concert and so I was glad it turned out well. I'm guessing because of the show in San Jo the Fresno show was cut short. But I do remember the show in 1997 at the Selland Arena as well as the Musicology show in 2004 and both were short also. Maybe it's the corn fed vibe of Fresno, I don't know (that is a joke). Either was I was pleased.

I did meet a girl after the show who told me she made it on stage and hoped someone took a picture of her "fat ass". I asked how much she paid for her VIP seats and she told me a lady was going around giving away free VIP tickets and she got a hold of one. So be on the look out people.

I do want to say that I was suprised that Prince picked Fresno as one of his stops for his W2A tour. I am greatful P, thank you!

Agreed! Not nearly long enough and only hits. Good but not great. The Controversy/Housequake riff he ended with tho was shit! The place was jumpin!!!!

Wish I had the cash or time to see him Sat. in SJ. He loves the Bay area. The 3rd Oakland show was amazing!!!!

I have read mostly positive tweets, too. And that's how it should be!! A lot of people who probably would not call themselves hardcore fans still appreciate Prince and are grateful to have the chance to see him perform!! I'm always glad to read those happy reports, instead of all the complaining going on here!

And antoinet: someone needs to defend him, he gets more than enough negative reactions!! We gotta try to at least keep a balance here! wink

Thanks Dreamer20ten - Wow I just went to your profile and I'm feeling your description of your fan level. My experience feels VERY similar (except I'm not in Europe). So enthusiastic in 80'-s 90's but then I lose interest here and there over the years because he's gone and puts out some strange (to me) material but then he hits town or TV and he gets me swept up every time. So enjoy him in Europe this year!!! smile

He played from 8:40 to 10:20 last night, first of all the concert was great!! Last night was ALL Prince, all killer no filler, with the exceptions of Play That Funky Music & Make You Feel My Love, no covers, even the dreaded Single Ladies snippet didnt make an appearance & there wasnt really an emphasis on other members of the band either, I dont even think they incorporated Dont Stop Til You Get Enough during Cool like usual, there was never a lull, this show breezed by, even the encores he didnt wait long to come back out, this was a greatest hits show straight up, this was definately geared for the casual fans, having been to my share of shows during the LA 21 nite stand the comparisons to those shows I can make is its like he trimmed all the extras, no opening act, no guest artists/celebrities, no deep cuts, no covers,no long waits between encores, limit the audience from singing most of the song,no extended jamming,& have the band/singers play the background & actually he sang all the songs, mostly full versions,he even did the 2nd verses to When Doves Cry,Sign O The Times,I Would Die 4 U, usually at the LA shows he would only do the 1st verse then move on to the next, now having said all that, I do like some of those extras that were absent last night, I love the deep cuts, I love some extended jamming & I love 3 hr shows with 6 encores in one nite & dont mind waiting a little bit extra for it, at the end of the day it was a great show, (my personal highlight was he did The Beautiful Ones, finally ater having missed this opening nite in LA, he never did it again,I was beginning to think he wouldnt do it without Misty)and in contrast to the other shows it was cool to see him do this type of show too,but now Im craving to see him play Joy In Repetition,Shes Always In My Hair,Power Fantastic,Future Soul Song, or Beginning Endlessly, so more LA shows may be in my future... biggrin

Seems perfectly reasonable that he would do a hits list in a place like Fresno--geographically less centrally located and probably more casual fans in attendance.

Pics from the best 'hits' show I've seen!!! 1:40 minutes of non-stop hit-fueled Purple Thunder. Believe me, I loved the Oakland 2/24 show much better in terms of over-all setlist and guests(Sheila), but something about last night resonated so well with the crowd.

Bravo P, you turned Fresno on its head!!!!

More pics coming....
