Anyone bringing their young child to the show ?

I want to bring my 10 year old daugther to see Prince on the 27th at the Forum , is it cool for children there . She is about 4'7 tall and our seats are in sec 35 lodge row T . Should I try to get a lil closer or is this fine ? Thanks for any input

she'll be able to see just perfectly, assuming somebody as tall as myself isn't directly in front of her! smile

I'm all for kids enjoying Prince, especially now that he's PG-friendly, but last week my crew had a row in Loge 2, directly in front of some lady and 4 children. We were standing and dancing throughout most of the show and she made it clear that she did not like us. Meanwhile, the kids (aged 5-8) were all napping and extremely bored in their seats, except for one cutie who was up and dancing. That whole experience really turned me off on children at the show - especially since it's common knowledge that the show goes till after midnight. It was a real buzzkill listening to her complain that her children couldn't see. It's a Prince dance party, not the circus, lady.

My daughter is 10 and it will be her first concert . I have been to many Prince concerts and at every one of them someone complains about taller people standing up in front of them sometimes for the entire show...lol . the people complaining where adults with no children invovled. So I don't think it has anything to do with being a child , just the fact that they are behind a taller person. It is a buzzkill to have inconsiderate people around at any concert. We come to see and hear Prince ,not to see adults thinking they are Prince or at a club.eek

You're right. We should have sat in our seats in hushed silence so as to not detract from the experience of children who weren't even alive in 1999, much less know the song "1999". I think your kid will have a great time but I hope you don't clutch your pearls in shock that people may be standing up and dancing. Especially since Prince specifically asked us to dance.

I've seen kids at the Prince shows within sight each night I've been there. Some get really cranky by 10, others fell asleep and a few danced in the aisles all night. You know your kids best, if you think they can hang then more power to ya.

I have to admit, I'm not one for sitting at a concert. Especially a Prince concert.

I'd love to bring my 6 year old daughter she knows all of the pg music and she wouldn't be sitting down at all, but the bathroom situation is bad. I couldn't take my little princess in that men's bathroom. The urinal trough would be hard to explain.

If you want your kids to see then pay up for seats at the front of a section or on the floor. Your kids are your responsiblity—not a license to inconveniece responsible people around you who had the good sense to hire a sitter.

Imaginative

I have seen children at the concert, and for the most part the ones I've seen are bored and sleeping by the end. Others ive seen in pain; I'll get to that in a moment. I think the $25 price point confuses parents into thinking that this is family entertainment. Although this is a PG13 evening, Prince is not Barney, Glee, American Idol, etc. He is there to entertain adults.

Personally, I think there are plenty of daytime opportunities to introduce your children to live music, prior to them becoming teenagers if you seek em out in LA, much of it free.

Lastly, these Prince shows are LOUD. If you decide to bring your child and don't provide ear-protection, you are being negligent. I've seen parents laughing and dancing while their kids are cupping their hands over their ears and grimacing, not realizing that a 10 year old set of ears are WAY more sensitive than ears 3 or 4 times that age. For a child, loud music can be downright painful. You may want to think about what kind of service you're doing to your child to have them see you have the time of your life while they suffer in physical pain for 2-3 hours.

I really want to bring my 3 year old because she loves Prince but I know its not right because she would be in pain. And let me tell you, I'm not leaving. When she turns 10 I will bring her but we will be in a very good seat because if someone stands up in front of her she isn't going to see anything but a head, neck and a back. Although the jumbotrons could help with that. I would do it, just for the experience for the 10 year old. P is so damn amazing. What an introduction to MUSIC! I say GO FOR IT!

If you think you have the right to ask people to not stand up and sing at a rock concert, you are wrong. You don't have that right. And those that stand, dance, sing or yell are not being rude. This is accepted behavior at a rock concert.

Do what I did when I took my 8-year-old to a Prince concert - stand and hold her in your arms. She'll be able to see just fine!

Or you could do the other thing I did - get her onstage with Prince.

The view is GREAT from there.

OK, first of all I never said anyone should sit down in silence at any concert nor did I ask any ones opinion on how I should care for my child. I said that it doesn't matter if you are a child or an adult, if the person in front of you is taller you just have to deal with it however you wish . So before you get your panties in a wad, please read the initial post that you are responding to. Why such nasty energy ? Thanks for your unsolicited crude replies . I will enjoy the show with my 10 year old in peace and wish you all love and joy .

Well, your posts came off a little condescending, implying that people who dance or sing at the show think they are Prince or in da club. But it is the internet and it's hard to read people's intentions. Regardless, I have to say that every time I have gone (4 times now!), everybody around me has had a killer time, most children included. There is a great sense of community through great music, and it's incredible to see blacks, whites, Latinos, asians, old, young, gay, straight, and Prince all having a big ole party. You and your kid will have a blast!

Sure bring your kids. At these prices it's a great night out. I ditched mine from an acute case of disinterest, but the fellow behind me had 3 generations in his party! Fri and Sat are "Celeb's night out", so depending on how pop-conscious your kids are, you might want to make your choices accordingly.

Most seat locations are fine, but shorties might have a problem if there are continuous standers. Most P-geeks try to be aware if they are blocking someone's view the whole night. If we're grooving too hard, a few kind words will suffice . Peace.
