Lol, does it even matter?

No. Not to me. I think it's good that he sold 40-50k in such a short time and without any huge promo. Last year he did perform twice in France. But this concert had a lot more audience than these 2 concerts combined wink

It would have been a better experience for everyone if he would have played 3 shows at a smaller venue.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Whether P sold 20k or 60k, a half empty stadium is not the best surrounding for artist or fan. They got the plans wrong on this booking.

I believe the studium can hold between 70-160k (in the round) so it was always going to be too much coming out of the credit crunch.

Still, at least he didn't cancel.

This concert at Stade de France was a real success, in Prince's whole entire career, in France it's the one which has united such a crowd!!

The impulse and booster he has given to Sharon at first point has just woke up the crowd..

He is a "heater" by himself!!

The sound was clear, we could hear distinctly, we were satisfied

Then, his performance waouhoo, not only The Purple glittering rain!!!

Nevertheless, I need to say that I was disappointed by SDF organisation, the stage could have been longer, therefore, Prince could have "penetrated" much the audience and everyone as in the O2 Arena, London, all could have had a view on the stage!!

My seat G7 Row4, Seat4: was faaaaaaaaaaaaar from the stage, it was initially a "carré or", golden seat, I couldn't even distinguish the band on the stage..the price was so high!!, the veiw was soo far...

Anyway, afterwards, I have left early around 23:20, I needed to reach the "société" downtown Paris, St Germain, where a GIG was expected!

It was awesome, Prince has made my day, night and early in the morning, til the sun comes up!!

It's so cooooool and felt so close to him, his music, his vibe..there's an Aura, an Energy around this man, this is fabulous!!

He constantly perfects his music, he's moves constantly, he gives himself...to us!

He gives energy!!

Thank U so much Prince for the music you give, for your work, the art you perform and which you perfect..

Pure Pleasure, your music nourrishes my soul, my mind, constantly, I thank U for being

Whether there were 10000, 20000, 30000 , 40000, or 50000 there, what's the issue.

The promoters proposed this venue and we can conclude since the concert went ahead that it was successful for them.

Unsurprisingly, the posts from people that actually attended are positive. Really happy these people enjoyed themselves, just like I hope to do in a couple weeks @Perugia.

Try and get to show near you. headbang

Dont you just love the Org.

All negative after the show, and all negative if he dosent do a show.

Sitting on thier arses tapping into a computer intead of getting up and going to the shows after all i did think they where suppose to be fans of Prince.

The Paris show was good, setlist not much change over the years, but was expecting that and i dont know anyone here that was expecting much different. The sound was pretty good for a stadium.

170 Minute show , you couldnt ask for much more.

As I have said, Bercy was the place to be last night.

Roger Waters gave an amazing performance for much lower prices than Prince in the very awful SDF.

Maybe some of us just have more sense than money?

I wonder if it logistically wasn't possible for him to have the symbol stage to perform on. I think with a large stadium setup like that it would have made the experience a bit better. The people at a distance would have had closer access to the band.

Change it one more time..

You're right. When Prince can't pull his hardcore fanbase to half empty stadiums, they you know his CD's and tour set are not up to par.

How much hardcore stadium going fans do you think Prince has in France compared to younger acts like the BEP? His audience is getting older and older. Hey, Im still relatively young (30's) and I hesistate to see an artist perform in a stadium setting. Its just not very appealing to me... If Im in a stadium I wanna see sports, not a huge screen of an artist way in the distance...

Change it one more time..

Which is exactly why it was the wrong choice of venue. Its a complete business cock up to book a venue that can only be half filled.

Obviously you know nothing about business, as it doesnt take the stadium to be full to get a profit. And Prince would normally be given a agreed amount no matter how many tickets were sold. The promoter would take any hit, and unless Prince cancelled, Prince would still get a agreed amount.

So as a business, being offered a stadium is great for Prince's finance.

A half emrty stadium is also a half full stadium, and it may hit his ego or it may encourage him.

what a boring setlist... sad

I think he also played a bit of Johnny during the bass solo. And before Take Me With U, there was another song that contained the lyric "analog pimps and digital ho's" (title : Only Heaven Knows ???).

After 1999, he played Little Red Corvette.

And the sampler set also contained bits and pieces of Alphabet St. & The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

But still.... these are the same songs he did in London... the same songs he did last year... he has so many songs to choose from... he has so many HITS to choose from... HITS that'll please the hardcore fans and the "normal" people at the same time...

I wanna be your lover

When Doves Cry... come on... when he plays this song on his sampler-toy, the crowd goes wild... why can't he play WDC as a whole song again... there aren't any "dirty lyrics" in it... and it's a masterpiece... and a crowdpleaser...

Paisley Park

Mountains (long version... and Prince... please do the vocals yourself!!!)

Anotherloverholenyohead

Girls & Boys

Sign Of The Times (wasn't this awesome during the ONA-shows???)

I could never take the place of your man

Adore (was never a hit, but absolutely a song that will make the people go wild)

Partyman

Pink Cashmere

Dolphin

Eye Hate U

Days Of Wild

Call My Name

black sweat

guitar

chelsea rodgers

and something from the Lotusflow3r-album... a 10-minute version of dreamer... followed by the ride...

what the h*ll... why don't you (Prince) play some of this songs next week Saturday... the 2nd night on the North Sea Jazz festival...

and you can leave Controversy and 1999 in your current set... I love these songs as well...

oh... and maybe you can give Shelby a day off... she's a great singer, but hey... on the NSJ-festival are more great singers... maybe Chaka will assist you on stage that weekend... or Selah... or Janelle...

thanx!

A big stadium show is fine for certain types of performance:

1) An artist at the top of their career who is culturally relevant and can create a genuine buzz

2) A production as opposed to just a concert; so for Prince that'd be Lovesexy, SOTT, even D&P and Gold tours.

3) A traditional anthem sort of rock band, e.g Bon Jovi where there's big sing alongs

The shows that Prince is doing nowadays are not big productions in terms of spectacle or arrangements; when he did the ONA tour I think he nailed it in terms of venue choice.

The risk for Prince doing this type of show is that it appears to be such a poor offering for the fans stuck at the back, and that he will alienate the remainder of his fan base.

What Prince seems to be into musically at the moment, and what is driving his live sound, is not what the vast majority of regular fans are expecting. Most casual fans are into Prince's because of the pop / rock heritage, and although I and many others here really dig the deep down grooves and the workouts, it certainly isn't for all; and the expectation at a stadium show is that it will be mainstream. What works in a club for an aftershow doesn't translate to the enormodomes.

And, no, I wasn't there so this is all just speculative!

Yes, indeed, there was an aftershow, it took place at

"La société" downtown Paris, St Germain

It was awesome, Prince has made my day, night and early in the morning, til the sun comes up!!

We entered because we were among the first ones in the queue, I didn't even had to pay..

First Sharon Jones has sang with the Dab Kings, Prince was like someone attending to a concert as we all were; sometimes he stepped close to Sharon then he took his guitar and just bagan to play.

It was really close being like 2 meters from him, see the man moving the microphones while Shelby was on the floor..Asking a strange dancer to come back to have a sit after watching her dance languorously around Shelby.

They played only 6 songs but those were so energically played, there was a special mood in this basement even though we had wait for long, it was worth the fact!!

It was so cooooool and I felt close to him, his music, his vibe..there's an Aura, an Energy around this man, this is fabulous!! I was among Angels...

He constantly perfects his music, he moves constantly, he gives himself...to us!

He gives energy!!

Sacré Bleu! That's how much the gig ticket costs, I know it's split between the band but still....can't believe this is the same guy who not so long ago made such a big deal about $25 tickets.
