I just left the Forum Club. It amazes me how people lack patience. Most of the earlier post-concert crowd bailed early leaving the die-hards. As soon as a large group appeared to leave en masse (during Esperanzas playing) P appeared looking refreshed and ready to groove. With babies at home, I had to leave the club as he walked on stage. Any one else there?

How did you get in? I've heard that you have to be invited by someone in Prince's camp in order to get into the post-concert jams in the Forum Club.

Show tonight was AWESOME. my 3d show of the series, and Esperanze Spalding was amazing. She is truly a gifted talent, and seemed to be a bright soul, happy and alive while playing. Plus, she is absolutely beautiful. And yes, her mix sucked for allot of the time.

Prince must have been inspired by her, because the first half of this show was the best I have ever seen him: inspired, top form, the band and him were in complete sync, magical also comes to mind.

Yea, it was a bit short (the other shows were closer to 3 hours long) but it was something unique, no letting down at any time, and with a first time Prince concert goer with my wife Lourdes and myself (we've been to about 11 or 12 shows now), it was even more special.

I'm planning on going for thursday and Friday next week, I'll have to be sure to not use my voice to cheer so much, I can barley talk.

I didn't know about the forum club... how does one get in? If I knew about it, and could have seen both again, I would pretty well still be there 9that is, as long as they are).

Over and out,

G

I was there. Yeah - you gotta have connections. So damn cool - jamming music for a couple hours- Prince joined in on keyboards for a bit but otherwise let his protégée shine - and they did! So laid back and cool - I hung next to the table Prince sat at and didn't even realize it for a minute - then just stole glances at his adorable face. So lucky am I on this birthday trip from
MinneApolis to LA.

LayDownMisty

it was not short

why do people keep saying that?

this is why he has people open for him, so he does not have to play long shows

he only played a long show once and it was because there was no opening act

these reviews and shows are getting boring

this 21 nights idea is retarded

but lucky 4 fans I guess

Prince - not black, not white........just COOL

Woo-hoo!!! I'm so excited! Tonight will be #4 for me. I know in comparison to some of you that's nothing but if I had the cash I'd be there EVERY NIGHT! I woke up at 6am this morning and I compare myself to a small child that wakes up early on Christmas and has to wait till the family is up to open his presents. Every minute seems like HOURS! That's my excitement level about going to the show again tonight. Prince has done SO MUCH for me these past few weeks. Made me forget about alot of "stuff" going on presently in my life. I will never forget him, these shows and the new feelings of hope and happiness that they are giving me... THAT IS PRICELESS! I SIMPLY LOVE THE MAN! So ready to get funkified this evening I can't stand it! Peace to the purple yoda and to all of you! Have a great day!biggrin

It was my 7th show. This was the first one where I wasn't surprised by anything he chose to play. I'm still hoping for I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man. He seemed to actually sing more of Raspberry Beret and Doves. And he played the bass during Kiss.

[Edited 5/7/11 1:50am]

IF PRINCE KEEPS ROMANCING THE STONE OF THE HEARTS OF AMERICAN WOMEN,, HE JUST might:"TAKE THE PLACE OF OUR MAN!" lol

OR OUR MEN MAY WORK REAL HARD TO ERASE THE IMAGES OF PRINCE FROM OUR MINDS!!!

"RIDING A BICYCLE" - REFERENCE ANYONE?

FRANKLY,

It's a win-win if you're a woman going to these concerts! Wouldn't you agree?!?!

Last night was great. A couple of funny things happened last night. At the start of the show the Twinz were standing in the middle of the stage. Well one of them was standing on the middle that goes down to bring Prince up. He had to be thinking "what the artichoke?" when he saw her being lowered down cause that wasn't planned. Then when he was singing Cool, he pointed to the wrong hand when singing "I got diamonds on my fingers." He mumbled something funny about it. Very playful mood with the band and the audience. Lots of genuine smiles among Prince and the band. You can tell they enjoy playing with each other. Shelia E. was great and hot as always.

Nice opener. I thought there might be another set like this latter in the show especially when he did Purple Rain so early

Laydown

Always In My Hair

Future Soul Song

What I'm getting a kick out of is seeing the first timers totally enjoy themselves. How do I know it's their first time? I ask them.

Who came up and sang with him during "Inglewood Swinging?"

I was at the show last night and I thought the energy of the crowd was really low compared to last week....Prince kept having to get people to dance and sing....there were some points when he'd walk out to the audience and do a little dance....and people would not be cheering at all. He made a few comments/looks like....."hmmm....I don't know about you guys." If it was my first show last night I may have felt differently....but compared to last weekend I felt like the energy was off....at least in regard to the crowd.

I thought the energy last night (both on stage and in the crowd) was great. In fact, after Prince finished If I Was Your Girlfriend, he said good night to the crowd, and took a bow. But the crowd kept cheering, and he gave a little smile, and launched into Nothing Compares 2 U. It was like he was saying, okay, crowd, you earned another song from me because of your reaction.

Maybe it was just my experience....I hope people felt otherwise....but for me compared to last week....I thought the energy was not as high within the crowd....lots of people sitting down when Prince would walk up to the end I was sitting....I kinda felt like....Prince is standing right in front of you egging you on the get into it....get out of your seats!

Compared to last week, this crowd was weak. I was tired as hell (I haven't slept much since this stint started), but I was standing up. During the pre-show, I noticed a woman literally asleep on her husband's shoulder. Prince was asking people to stand up, which I hadn't noticed him doing in the other shows.

And then there was the twins. Not Prince's dancers, but two young (20ish) ladies in front of me who would not stand up and spent the majority of the show applying make up and lip gloss. I'm not joking. I pitied them.

I don't know what it is, but it seems as if I'm constantly the only one in my section who wants to stand up. If you want to party and dance during the concert, please don't sit in my section, as it seems that there is something about my energy that makes people want to sit down during a Prince concert.

I agree about the sitting. It's much different than the first four shows where maybe only on the ballads people sat.

At least no one is telling us to sit down like at other artists shows.

The crowd has it's share of young ones (20's and 30's) and it seems they all can't clue in that it's not a concert, but a dance.

^ and ^^ re: the low energy of the crowds -- This is the main reason I'm passing on the remaining shows. No interest in hanging with casual, at best, fans(?) from South Central who paid $25 to gawk at an icon. As the dates roll on I would assume there are less and less hardcore fans in attendance to keep the energy up. Nothing is more of a bummer than to be seated with folks who wont get off their ass for a couple hours to enjoy themselves.

Also, how exciting would the last stretch of these dates be if they were at The Roxy or somewhere like The Troubadour? Charge $100 for every GA ticket. Cheap enough for everyone but pricey enough to keep out the party-poops.

No one was sitting my section (Loge 25) but it sounds like we may have been an exception. However, I did see a lot of people standing and dancing when they put the lights on the crowd.

If he would put all the pieces that he he's been spreading out together for one night, I would stop going.

He's playing with my emotions. He just wants me to keep coming back. What a "Strange Relationship"

and don't forget it makes me feel "Computer Blue"

This was my fourth show during his residence here in LA, and I have to say that it was the least impressive confused . I agree with the poster who said Esperanza's set wasn't mixed very well. Her voice was drowned out by the instruments. In fact, I don't think a venue the size of The Forum is apropriate for a jazz ensemble like that anyway. Too many subtle pieces doing too many complex things. But you could tell the woman's got talent!

Yes, Prince came on late (after 10PM!) And he started off STRONG: Laydown, She's Always in My Hair and Future Soul Song were fantastic. In fact, Future Soul Song really comes to life LIVE. Prince plays the melody with his guitar, not a synth, and really drives it home. For me, it was the highlight of the night.

Then, strangely, came Purple Rain. Uh-oh. The fourth song of the night? It's not a good sign when an artist plays his hits early, especially his traditional closer. They didn't even have the "Purple Explosion" (if you've been to these shows, you know what I'm talking about). Unfortunately, this decision set the tone for the rest of the night. Prince seemed like he was in a rush to get off the stage, running through Raspberry Beret, Cream and his sample set of Doves, Sign, etc. In all, he played barely more than an hour before returning for his first encore, a very lazy rendition of Kiss. Yes, he played the bass, which was great, but he didn't sing more than a handful of the lyrics and yelled at the audiance like a pissed-off lover: "I said SING IT!"

He then returned for a very perfunctory If I Was Ur Girlfriend before mustering up a final burst of energy for a soulful Nothing Compares 2 U. I credit Shelby J for pumping the energy in this performance, though. Prince was just about spent.

The final encore was, of course, Inglewood Swinging. It was Prince's way of saying, "This is it, y'all! I'm done!"

So this was a 2-hour performance. If you subtract applause time in between ecores, it was about an hour and a half -- with no special guests, breakdowns or slithering. Hey, if you're going to a have short set, at least GET INTO THE GROOVE!. Kinda weak compared to the three-hour extravaganza I witnessed two weeks ago with Chaka Khan.

Word to the wise... Fridays seem to be Prince's shortest sets. Next time I'm going to try the Saturday Night Special.
