Pre-Concert video feed thoughts After seeing the opening night Oakland show, I went to one of the Forum shows and noticed something I haven't seen discussed here. If it has been touched on, my apologies.
Before the Oakland W2A show, clips from Woodstock performances were shown on the big screens before the show. The Forum had a much different feed. Being the geek that I am, I took notes.
Here's what was played:
Popular - Taja Sevelle Mia Bocca - Jill Jones Go Go Dancer - Carmen Electra Tweakin' - George Clinton Koo Koo - Sheila E Elephant Box - Ingrid Chavez Crazay - Jesse Johnson Dance Electric - Andre Cymone Yo Mister - Patti LaBelle Ice Cream Castles - The Time Sugar Walls - Sheena Easton 13 - Madhouse
While I thought it was a very cool to show associated artists videos before the show, the selection was a little unusual. I'd never seen the video for Taja's Popular and I don't believe Prince actually wrote that one. Sure, she was on Paisley Park at the time, but it's an unusual choice. The next surprise for me was the video for Tweakin'. I had no idea this existed, and I've been a George Clinton fan for a little longer than I've been a Prince fan. It must have slipped under my radar.
Now, take a look at the videos listed above. Which one stands out to you as not fitting with the others?
Considering it was Jesse that got Sly to work with him and not Prince, it could be a case of Prince giving Jesse some respect after all these years. The song is still great and fit in very well with the others, and the video fit the Minneapolis style very well. Did anyone else notice this? What are your thoughts? | |
