Why is it so hard for people to understand the "no camera/videotaping policy?" It's stated on the Livenation/Ticketmaster sites, so it should be no surprise to anyone. I wish they enforced that at MSG at NYC, because whomever the security was there, sure didn't seem to care when so many folks had their cell phones recording the shows right in front of them. It's a annoying when people are standing up in front of you with their arms/cell phone cameras raised, blocking your view, when you're trying to enjoy the show. It's better to be safe than sorry, rather than being kicked out of a show you paid for.

Just to be CLEAR this is normally the policy at any concert you attend, its on the tickets, and now with Camera Phones its a no win situation. The venue cant make or ask that you check your phone when you go to the venue.

FWIW I covered opening night as a member of the press. While I did get a comp ticket, I was denied a photo pass. This is pretty rare, almost every show we cover, we're allowed to shoot the first three songs or so.

So I do believe it is Prince's desire to keep a lid on pics. I had to get approved images from his PR people to use with the piece.

But that's no different from the standard "no recording" policy, of course some people are stealthy enough to get away with it.

There were TONS of people taking pics last night - with both cell phones and actual cameras with flashes. At one point before the show started I noticed some of the event staff in yellow jackets taking pics FOR people standing in front of the stage!! Maybe 2 times during the show staff flashed their flashlights at people who were taking pics, but this was very rare. I even recorded the entire 11 minute version of Purple Rain he did last night! No problem cool

Wondering why they are doing this in LA and didn't enforce this in NYC and NJ. At my NYC concert on 2/7 people were recording the concert and had paparazzi cameras with flash. It was crazy and MSG security said nothing.

Not quite..I was also at that 2/7 in the section KArdashian, etc was in in the loge...and I can tell you I hardly got 'good shots' because the security was all over me and everyone else until the last 3rd of the show. This older guy had binoculars and the secuirty kept harrassing him too....for nothing. Phones, cameras, etc...I don't take tons of pics either..I just wanted some good ones but they had alot of guards that were serious.

I don't know if it was b/c of my seats or just the guards, but I saw others popping away but I did not want to get kicked out but was pissed b/c I had great seats...

I was sitting in section 23 on the floor and a guy sitting next to me had a recording device that he put under is seat. And in the next row behind me people a woman was taking pictures with a professional camera. I was to scared to take pictures. LOL...

YEs..It was so strange b/c I saw the floor going crazy with photos yet my section I had like 4 guards for a good part of the show..Yet some guards on the floor could care less... I was worried b/c I had a camera as opposed to my phone...but it is just small...but then they switched and I finally got a few pics..but not nearly as many as I should have considering my seats@!

Typical Prince:

1. No Cameras at my shows

2. Everybody Take Your Phone(Camera) Out.

1. I've Got A Great Band

2. Tony M is in the band, he's a great hip hop legend

1. The Chocolate Invasion is coming soon

2. Your house can't be invaded due to a distribution problem (Yes pressing up cds is a big mystery, and then actually putting them in a case, and mailing them out turned out to be too hard.)

1. Here's Your Lifetime Membership to my Internet Fan Club

2. That website "went as far as it could go," It's only $77 for the new one(I mean $77 T Shirt)

3. Puts 77 Tracks on 20Ten to make fun of ripping fans off for $77

1. Crystal Ball Will NEVER BE IN STORES

2. Album in Stores with an extra album with a title Prince should not be using: THE TRUTH

1. Tells French DJ about 20Ten Deluxe

2. Still waiting on that one.

I love this guy, but unelss you are such a Prince ass kisser who thinks he can do no wrong, there is an awful lot of crap to put up with being a fan.

Wait, what's the difference between someone raising and/or swaying their arms due to feeling the music and raising their arms with a small camera or phone in their hand? They're both "blocking" a view, but I'm sure you're not going to say you wish people never raised or waved their arms in the air at a Prince concert!

With all due respect, it's not. Security only checks the purses of women, because that's what THEY ARE TOLD to do. You don't need to pat down anyone. Walk through a metal detector with a phone and see what happens. Since PRINCE decided that part of the show would include cell phones, then there's no point in trying to enforce anything else that involves them. It's just like airlines making a big deal about cell phone use on a plane. Is there REALLY one IDIOT out there that thinks cell phone use can cause a plane to crash? If that's the case, would "terrorists" need weapons? Common sense is just not too common.....

With all due respect, those grainy videos on You Tube is the best free advertising any one could dream of. It is followed with a comment section with plenty of drooling praise by those that attended and not.

They are linked to Facebook and every other social media. The exposure is far greater, better, more direct and honest than George Lopez, a radio show, or any other way of advertising even if he had an unlimited budget.

As someone who agrees with Prince in removing his recordings from You Tube, I think this is a big mistake. The low quality of these videos only whets your appetite to go see his show. Or go see him again. And again. And again.

The immediacy of the fan reation by those who attended and enjoyed the shows and are gushing about it, posting their pictures and videos to their friends and family is priceless.

Just saying.

I don't understand why people are being so stupid. I've been to events where you have to check your phone and/or leave it in the car. It's not that hard to implement.

I don't think people are as stupid as you are indicating...I went to a concert w/o a camera nor even my phone..I was the only one around WITHOUT IT. Went to his second show, didn't bring it again....again..most people do it and not having problems. You go on every website and people take pics. So, when the masses see other masses doing it with ZERO problems..of course people will take cameras...whether they are supposed to or not. Just my 2 cents.

That's not the stupid part....LOL. The stupid part is believing that a venue cannot implement a no camera policy.
