4/21 & 4/22

These two shows are the best I have heard Prince since Montreux. As someone who was not at these shows and only has these bootlegs to go by (and someone who was not a fan of his Lopez perf), I must say that I am really, really impressed.

It seems as if Prince is finally finding the balance between creating a greatest-hits setlist and pleasing his hardcore fans. It is truly unprecedented.

Opening a show with a 25 minute rendition of a slow track? That is ballsy, I don't care who you are.

The first six songs on 4/22 are absolutely insane and are a hardcore Prince fan's dream.

I wonder if the casual fans enjoyed these moments which were more far-reaching into his catalog.

I hope these will be getting the same classy multiple-cam dvd treatment that some of the other Welcome 2 America shows have received.

What do you all think?

Definitely agree - he's found a formula that has come close to perfection. I lost my mind when I heard him begin with Beginning Endlessly and move to endorphine machine. I did the night before when he began with a (what might as well be an) unreleased song!

I have many friends who have never listened to a full prince album and never seen him live - attend the shows and say how much they loved the show even if they didn't know all the songs - one asked me to make him a CD of the songs played. definitely a universal experience.

he's eliminated the cheesiness from the shows - no vegasy sounding stuff or anything too jazzy, even renato's solos are on point. he's embraced rock head on too - giving the shows an edge i haven't seen from him in years, maybe decades (since 1997).

Glad to hear he hasn't upset any of the less-hardcore folks yet.

I attended both shows and I feel that the opening for both were for the hardcore fans. Especially the show on Thursday. I really enjoyed it!
