Thanks for the great pics, setlists and reviews. Always great to read.

I saw Doc F tweet about an NPG aftershow - "Just got out of NPG aftershow jam with Shelby J. n Sheila E. What a fun night! smile" - did anyone here make it? Not sure where it was but presumably Prince wasn't there...

Exactly. Maybe if this dumbfuck would've actually listened to the recent interview instead of living on this message board 24/7, maybe he would've heard how he doesn't mind his friends covering his songs.

You're the one who's acting as if I slapped your momma, and I'm the "dumbfuck"? Ever heard of a little word called irony? What's with all of the language? Is Prince your god, man, or father, and I just insulted him? If not, you need to learn to de-sensitize. Why should you care what I think or say about Prince? Methinks you're the one that needs a life.

And for someone who thinks I "live on a message board", you must live right next door to me because you're reading every one of my comments every step of the way.

Oh, and that little part of his interview about his friends is contradicting and the dumbest statement since...since...well, your last post.

We waited almost an hour, thinking he was going to come back out...other than the bike appearance, he didn't. Security finally got the word it wasn't going to happen and told us to go (our security people were pretty cool about it, they seemed a little disappointed themselves).

A short show, but a good one! It was exciting to hear so many new songs!

Wow Shelby did "Misty Blue"? I have to tell my aunt to tell her best friend, Dorothy Moore who is the original singer of that song. Dorothy is from my hometown, Jackson, MS under the Malaco Records which got torn up by a tornado last week.

Agreed!

I for one really dig 20Ten cd. And I'm glad he's playing stuff from it. Finally. Lol. But I can't help but wonder if he's thinking about releasing it here in the states? I know this is kind of a dead topic but he plays Laydown on GL. Even announcing it as his new single. And now he's playing 3 tracks live from 20Ten. I dunno. Maybe we'll get that Deluxe edition soon. cool

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

A short show, but a good one! It was exciting to hear so many new songs!

Who says he doesn't play the new stuff? Did you become a new Prince fan yesterday? For the first time in his 50 or so concerts since the release of 20Ten almost a YEAR ago, he plays 3 songs in one show. At those 50 concerts, there have been maybe one performance of Endlessly, 3 of FSS, 4 of Laydown, and I think one of Sticky like Glue. That makes about 10 total performances of his new songs covering over 700 songs performed, and you want to believe he is playing his new stuff.

I went to all 6 Carolina shows, and not once, not one new song. Believe me, the shows were mostly stuff of greatness, but none of those six shows featured Prince singing more than an hour and a half if you subtract Shelby singing, and times where Prince was just dancing and not really doing anything. I still have to give him a pass on a lot of the crap he pulls...

but he's playing better shows in LA than he did in the Carolinas, and for less money. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but it doesn't really matter. If he comes back to the South, I'll be there, but Prince could be much, much more than he is live.

If nothing else, he should be focused on playing 2 and a half hours, and singing full length versions of all the songs.

He did Raspberry Beret at a few of the Carolina shows, and it was just first verse and chorus...songs to me are like children, and medley short versions are like seeing your children without arms and legs..sad...but that is Prince.

I thought it sounded great, and I immediately recognized that keyboard hook. It's my favorite song on 20Ten (and one of my favorites from him in the past decade) so I was REALLY excited to hear it live.

Though I did hate that I was there with 5 friends and no one recognized it so they didn't share my enthusiasm. It was a strange way to start the show and confused a lot of the crowd, especially when it was followed by "Laydown." And in the crowd's defense, they were two songs from an album he never even released in the States.

They sounded great, but for a mainstream crowd it threw the energy off from the beginning. Everyone was excited for him then he unleashed nearly half a dozen songs that few people there knew. And like I said, three of them had never even been released in America so it's not totally the crowd's fault.

But for the die-hards it was amazing, and made me feel like he was actually touring for his new album. And when was the last time he toured for a new record and played songs from it? I don't think he even played three songs from Musicology back in '04!

He really needs to release 20Ten here.

I've been a fan for 28 years. I'm sorry we got three new songs and you didn't get any, but that's no reason to be mad at me. He performed the whole show except for Shelby singing one song while he took a break, and he did complete versions of everything except the piano sampler medley.

Three new songs in a 90 minute set for an artist almost 35 years into his career is pretty good. Sorry you were disappointed by the shows you got.

boxed What i remember most about last night beyond the music is all of us that stayed around hoping that Prince would come back out 4 us. It was fun to meet many of the ones that stayed around...except security was a little tough again pushing us around. They kicked most of us off of the floor at the 'end' of the show and i did see that security was tougher and rougher pushing the girlz around. They didn't pick on the men....sad but true. Security women were letting the men back on the floor but not the women.

Yet, we all had fun. Oh, the other thing that i remember is those white pants that he had on during Purple Rain. nice...very nice...some things get better on the track of time. Oh, the women loved that outfit.

Some will never be satisfied. I still find it boggling that it's that kind of fan who attends every show and then gets upset at hearing some songs repeatedly. They expect a spanking new set list each night. Prince is sprinkling in different songs at the shows and then some others are taken out as a result. Everyone crying about not hearing a particular song will only track down the bootleg anyway so please stop all the dramatics. You're going to hear it anyway(just not live and in person). Renfield glad you had a great time. The LA shows are shaping up nicely.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

ahh good man thanks for the reply smile i think prince needs to intersperse the newer stuff with the classics in order to not really leave the fans clueless and confused smile those first 5 songs sound like a great way to start a show for die hards though, actually my wet dream of an opening, prince rocking out biggrin glad they sounded good man smile he does its a very good album imo

Beginning Endlessly was a nice surprise. It was awesome to see everyone up on their feet even though probably 95% of the people there didn't know this song. Future Soul Song rocks live. Seeing Prince play the bass in the dark with a snipet of America was cool too. What other concert are you going to go to when there are like 30+ women in the men's bathroom waiting for a turn because their bathroom is too full. Plus I got a crazy second hand high since the guy in front of me lit up as soon as he saw Morris Hayes start the show. It was an energy packed 90 minutes of music. I stayed till 11:50 p.m. and didn't feel cheated at all. It was crazy to see him on the bike or to be doing the wave at the Forum. Felt like I was at Dodgers Stadium when that broke out. All of this for a $25 ticket? What more could you ask for.

Sounds like such an awesome show!!! I'm hoping he does shows 28, 29, & mostly the 30th (since it's my birthday wink), but I don't see any news dates posted - bummer.

To all those who did attend...I'm glad you witnessed such a great performance of such a complimentary setlist. I hope he continues to do full versions of his songs (and not the covers); makes him that much more enjoyable to see / hear live.

Not sure whether you live on the message board or not, but your original post about the topic was pretty stupid. But worry not, one must sift through a few ignorant statements from time to time on prince.org before getting to something of substance. Prince referred to his songs being covered without his permission...key word is: without. Now, I'm sure you're aware of Prince's history, so it wouldn't require much deductive reasoning to conclude that PART of his beef was pertaining to how Warner Brothers handled his music. As far as Alicia Keys goes, there is no irony, because like many artists whom he feels plays "real music," Prince is a fan of hers. He supported her when she was a new artist and attended her shows multiple times. Prince has also stated several times that Chaka Khan's version of "I Feel For You" is much better than his. Songs like "When You Were Mine," "Do Me, Baby," "Kiss," and "Nothing Compares 2 U," obviously represent work that didn't improve when they were remade, but "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" was covered effectively by Keys, and though it probably didn't improve the original, it was a respectable and quality version.

Oh God! Talk about a downer!! He's worried about people covering his shit, and then the public thinks he's covering THEM. But he sits there and pulls this dumb shit and asks one of the people who covered his songs to join him at HIS concert for his performance of it. Does that make sense? Either stick to your guns or shut the fuck up! The contradictions with this man just will not end.

And yes, I've had a couple of people ask me didn't Alicia do the song first, swearing up and down that he's covering HER song. Oy vey! disbelief

If anything, at least this show seems to be a good bit different so far.

Im sure she had enough respect for him as the song writer to ask if she could record it at release it. Your missing some previous quotes by Prince. He says its fine to perform it live but artist should ask for approval before they record and release it and make money from it. There are proper channels you should go through to record someone elses material and make money off it. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You think Alicia put it on her album and didn't ask Prince first? no no no!
