OMG!!! What a great start to the show. Now that's what I'm talking about Prince, play some songs off of that awesome last album of yours and how about releasing it here or at least have some for sale at the concerts for the fans to hear your latest stuff!! I would have loved to been there with those songs, all are favorites of mine excite SAIMH, and I'd still be happy!!! I can't wait to see the rest of the setlist and see what he was wearing!! I know he is as sexy as ever! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Sounds like there are strange happenings at the Forum tonight.
Prince played for around 90mins (reports on the time are mixed), with two encores - all reports are of an awesome show. BUT, folks wanted more.
Now over an hour has passed, the arena is mostly empty, but diehard fans still won't leave.
Some 30mins ago (or thereabouts) he apparently came out on his bicycle and cycled around, only to disappear again.
A keyboard came out.
A keyboard went back in.
Will he play again? The fans obviously won't leave until either he does or security kicks them out.
I suspect reception was bad in the arena, as setlists are hard to come by, but after FSS was:
Take Me With U Raspberry Beret Cream C O O L / Don't Stop Til You Get Enough (ironic, lol) How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore
Also in there somewhere was Controversy, WDC (not sure how much) and Purple Rain.
Not sure what else...

Oh, that's awesome!!
Looks like it really is over:
@AntiGlibAnti Glib
Security now kicking people out of Forum. #prince didn't even play 90 mins. Huge disappointment.
At least it sounds like the 90ish minutes was quality.
For any other performer you'd be happy - he sets the bar high.

I was at the concert and had a great time. When Prince arrived, he rose up from beneath the stage in a puff of smoke.
I left before Prince came out on his bike, but I still had a great time. The first part of the show was rock/guitar heavy. I loved that he did She's Always In my Hair, one of my favorite songs by him. I would say the show was divided into segments, with the first one being rock/guitar songs. Then he left and came back and played Why Don't U Call Me on the piano and Alicia Keys came out and sang it with them. I thought it was an excellent rendition. Then the next segment was more dance/funk. He moved seemlessly from one song to the next during each segment.
He would say goodnight, and then come back for an "encore." The last encore he did was Purple Rain. It was a stirring rendition with the audience singing the familiar woo hoos from the very beginning when the band played a really long intro of the song without Prince even on stage. I don't consider it a true encore because that's the one song he's played at every LA show, and it ended with purple confetti raining down on the stage. It was obvious to everyone he was going to play that song, so I don't really think of it as an encore. I view tonight's "encores' more as he had to get off the stage for a few minutes to regroup and change his clothes.
Even though the show ended around 11 pm, I don't feel cheated. It's like Prince is trying to create a different vibe every night. Tonight he was ins rock/guitar God mode followed by a piano set followed by a sweat my suit out dance/funk set. There was a special energy from the crowd (hardly any empty seats that I saw) and I suspect that Saturday's show will give us yet another great but different show from Prince.

He did the sampler teasing medly of Nasty Girl/Darling Nikki, finally ending with If I Was Your Girlfriend, which he went on to perform with the band. Prince starting off singing it while standing on top of the piano.

I kept a running log of the setlist during the show: Beginning Endlessly Laydown Endorphinemachine She's Always In My Hair Future Soul Song (sounded GREAT live, who says he doesn't play the new stuff?) Take Me With U (complete) Raspberry Beret (complete) Cream Cool/Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough Let's Work (mostly instrumental, played in the dark) Hollywood Swingin' U Got The Look Misty Blue (Shelby vox) How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore (with Alicia Keys) When Doves Cry/Nasty Girl/Sign O' The Times/TMBGITW/Darling Nikki If I Was Your Girlfriend
Encore 1: DMSR Controversy/a few lines from Housequake
Encore 2: Purple Rain
We waited almost an hour, thinking he was going to come back out...other than the bike appearance, he didn't. Security finally got the word it wasn't going to happen and told us to go (our security people were pretty cool about it, they seemed a little disappointed themselves).
A short show, but a good one! It was exciting to hear so many new songs!

OK Org.ers, here's the complete setlist. First, Mint Condition opened and performed for approximately thirty mins. Prince introduced them from beneath the stage "...from Minneapolis...my brothers..." Good set, the crowd was receptive but obviously there for Prince. They played from 8:05pm until 8:35.
Prince comes on approximately 9:20pm...he did the lights off/lights on tease again, then the musical intro starts while the lights are on and the band marches onto the stage first. P comes up on his platform to screams and cheers with the houselights still up. The set:
Beginning Endlessly Laydown Endorphinmachine She's Always In My Hair Future Love Song Take Me With U Raspberry Beret Cream Cool w/ Don't Stop...interpolation Let's Work (Prince plays one of his Auerswald basses with the upper bow during this song and plays the melody line from "America") Segue into Hollywood Swinging with the city "Inglewood" substituted for Hollywood U Got The Look Shelby J solo on Misty Blue (excellent!) Prince solo piano on How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore; Alicia Keys joins him onstage (Sampler segment) When Doves Cry Nasty Girl Sign O' The Times Most Beautiful Girl In The World Darling Nikki If I Was Your Girlfriend
Set ends app. 10:20 pm
First encore:
DMSR Controversy
Second Encore:
Purple Rain
Show ends app. 10:55
With the exception of the sampler segment, the songs were full versions. Prince played a gang of guitar tonight and was in fine form. Great energy, great mood...band was on point. The sampler segment was shorter and tighter than Thursday night's and the crowd was very receptive, especially on "Doves" and "Nikki." His facial expressions were killing me...I was on the floor, four rows behind the VIP, directly facing his piano's keys...awesome vantage point literally feet from him. He seemed to be thoroughly enjoying playing with the crowd and soaking up the reactions to those songs in particular.
I was in attendance last Thursday night and can tell you the difference between the two shows. Tonight's show would be considered a good Prince concert. If you were a first-timer (as was my girlfriend tonight), this would be like one of the greatest things you've ever seen. For an old-timer like me, it was a good show. It's almost unfair to compare Thursday night's opening show to tonight because it was a completely different energy. This was a party. That show was an event. Not that there was anything wrong with tonight...just a different energy. That show had people shaking their heads like, what did we just see? This show was more like allright!!! Yeah!!! Let's do it again next week...
Tickets were VERY tight for this show. The word is out and people are coming out in force now. The Forum appeared at least 90% packed if not more. Colonnades appeared completely full...no more just getting into the house and moving around to an empty row, far fewer empty seats compared to opening night. The box office wasn't getting anything back at 7pm...then the seats behind the stage on the floor came through, which I passed on. Then some in the colonnade come through but again, rear of stage. Pass. Then one in the colonnade in Sec 32 or thereabouts...had I been alone I probably would have grabbed that one but I needed two. Several people came through and bought what they had...then before leaving we tried once again and voila, we were shown the floor seats to the left of the stage. I would have preferred being in the lower loge, at least on eye level but something told me to jump on these so I did. Glad that I did because it was an incredible seat. You sacrifice seeing the entire stage and clear views of all of the musicians but to see Prince from mere feet away that close up...priceless.
Something special is supposed to happen tomorrow (Sat). Not sure if I'll try to get back so soon...but I do plan on catching more shows while he's here.
People waited and waited for more encores...word is out that he plays beyond the lights coming back up...but this time no dice. We, and the crew, waited and waited but not tonight...when the lighting guys came down I knew it was a wrap. Was still there when P took his bike ride around the Forum floor...bizarre sight. And dangerous. Everyone rushed the aisles and exits to the floor and security closed off access so people were stacked very dangerously against the front rows of the loge and along the stairwell. You could see that they had no idea what was going on but to their credit, they tried to keep things cool and calm and it wasn't their fault, it was Prince's. Morris Hayes was along the stairwell and trying to get back down onto the floor; security wouldn't let him pass until someone assisted in letting the security woman know who he was. I was watching him to see if he would take his place along his keyboard riser. He appeared to be waiting for word to resume but finally relented and left so that told me that P wouldn't be coming back on. But people waited, cheered, clapped, begged, shouted...but it was a wrap for tonight. The crowd remaining was visibly upset and confused...walking out, it felt like a funeral rather than a concert.

Thanks for the great recap and comparison of this show to the 4/14 one (which I missed). The only thing I would add is that Prince did a full version of If I was Your Girlfriend (which had a slightly different arrangement than the album version) with the full band (after beginning it during the sampler set) and that at one point he was standing on top of the piano while singing the song. Prince shocks me again. Never have I seen him NOT come back out after all that Love the crowd gave him, but then again, he DID come back out on the strange bike. Yes, everybody begged for more, yes it was dangerous & confusing. Yea the concert was good, very good, seeing him up close WAS PRICELESS & scoring $25 seats on the floor is just awesome for those of us who always want floor seats to Prince and have paid for them in the past (& tonight). But some of us are spoiled and have seen his AMAZING concerts, so we expected more. This was the mellowest night I've EVER seen from him. The opening number was not high energy. Not a bad song but as an opener? Not my idea of a Prince opener coming out and ravaging me as he's done in the past. I've never left a Prince concert with the feeling I had tonight. Disappointed & a little pissed. NEVER. Always want more but always completely satisfied and can't stop gushing about him. He was good, don't get me wrong, even pretty great, & some 1st timers thought he was great, but some of us think he was tired (which is still hard to believe)but that we deserved more from him. Would I go for $25 again? Yeah, probably, sure why not. Our TGIF crowd may have been expecting a lot tonight from past reviews/posts about the lights up & cleaning crews, which we got, but no encores. Can't wait to see 4/23 review. He promised surprises. Surprised me tonight again Prince.

So Prince played a good concert last night .. disappointing only because expectations were so high, especially after the first concert marathon last week! I guess that shows perfectly how different Prince concerts can be ... when he is just great, compared to being absolutely amazing!! But Prince is only human, maybe something wasn't right for him last night? And maybe he only did the short set because he plans to surprise everyone again tonight with a long one?? After all, it's Saturday night, so he might have a few great things planned, who knows?!

Damn!! That's a awesome first 5 songs, I would have loved to have been there. Beginning Endlessly, Laydown, and Future Soul Song are my favorite songs from the great 20ten Cd, plus She's Always In My Hair and Endorphinmachaine. Just saw him twice in the Carolina's both awesome shows, but he didn't play any of those songs, I'm so jelly, glad the hardcore fans got to hear those songs, the casual Prince fans there prolly didn't know those first 5 songs.
