Prince doesn't have to retire for you to remember him in any particular way. You just have to snatch your balls back from Prince and go on your own way. You're the one choosing to hang around Prince not the other way around. So maybe it's time for you to man up and move on!

I think your wrong he is like an old boxer coming back for the money and each time he comes back he is is less sharp

Then why do you keep paying for seats at the fight?

Yawn at this thread. Name a better live act in the world right now.

tho it's been almost 5 years now ..but the red hot chilli peppers belive in their new material in their shows and perform them with a nice mixture of classic songs ..

prince is and will always be a great performer live, however with a huge catalouge 2 choose from it's time 2 RETIRE a lot his material

i get what the author of this thread is saying and it's not negativity, it's objective in saying prince was and is on top of his game when he doesn't follow the rules and makes the rules himself. nothing wrong with that in hoping he returns 2 that form instead of playing it safe like he has been 4 years and years now.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Prince is a genius musician, Celia Dion sings EZ listening music. Prince will never be *yawn* because the way he plays the guitar and sings, there is an exchange during live shows that only happens with certain musicians who are, for lack of a better word, magic...I think equally as intriguing live would have been Bob Marley, is Stevie Wonder, Odetta.....these are legends. Im sorry, but Celia Dion doesn't even play in the same league as Prince. She has good vocal control, for sure, but not the same at ALL!

the celine reference really comes from staying in one location (vegas) instead of going around doing 2 -3 night engagements across the county ..that's the only comparison

This thread is silly.

Prince is rolling out his tour across the U.S. Still not sure why he announces tour dates so soon befoe they take place but I've been several on the W2A and I've not been disappointed yet when I left the venue.

I wonder if everyone on here will be as funky, vibrant and open to new/old/young concepts as Prince is at 52.

To judge him from the George Lopez performance is wrong. See him live, then come back and say he isn't still the best live performer currently.

The Foo Fighters? I've not seen them live (will rectify that soon) but I find it hard to believe that they are better than Prince.

To some extent I agree. I wasnt going to go to this concert because even though I'm a loyal devoted fan of his it all seemed so predictable and I thought I'd skip it. But a 1st timer called & wanted to go & I got $25 seats so what the heck. He's the best live performer around, it'll be good but is kinda sad. My girlfriend told me 15 years ago that Prunce would end up in Vegas bloated like Elvis and I was like NOOOOOOOOOOO! But we both knew she was right. It's only a matter of time.

I think Prince about 358 pounds lighter than Elvis. As far as his concerts, I'm the first to complain about the Vegas type aspects, the stupid shortened version of songs, endless shortcuts that this man takes, the 90 minute $200 shows, having some lesser musicians in his band, his crazy auidence particiapation that gets out of control where the mic is on the crowd's singing, and Prince isn't singing, and the list goes on.....

but the bottom line with Prince is you still get a legend that is light years ahead of Elvis. Prince at his worst is 4,000 times better than Elvis at his peak. Elvis didn't even play his guitar, real musicians overdubbed parts on his records, and at concerts, the guy at the board made sure his playing was way way down in the mix.

Prince's 2011 shows have been a mixed bag. The 6 Carolina shows were all quite short in relation to the ticket prices. It seems he pulls out more stops for NYC and LA...and for LA...3 hours for less money...but still...light years ahead of someone like Elvis.

This has to be the dumbest piece of sh*t i have seen posted on the org. 21 nights is a smart idea from the greatest musician of our time. Lots of people have heard about how great he is live but millions have not seen him live. So it is only smart to do a stand like this and let EVERYONE see how dope he is. People in the carolinas who finally went to a Prince concert were amazed at how great a show he put on. Now if he ever decides to release 2010 or any album stateside he will have built up his fan base again.

I agree with some of the criticisms of his latest live shows, but if you feel this way maybe you should retire from spending your money on his live shows.

My only thing is,..sure everyone has a right to their opinion. And to complain about anything Prince relegated on a Prince site in fair game. But to complain about his LIVE SHOWS when he is on fire and probably considered unquestionably the best live show around today and unmatched as a live performer by his peers, critics and fans alike is like complaining hell is not quite hot enough.

I mean, c'mon.

I'm not saying the original poster is right, but can someone explain to me why, when someone dares to criticise Prince ( and, Christ, we all know he needs a kick up his skinny little ass from time to time!!), there is always some idiot who thinks that that someone is a troll???!

It probably has to do with the fact that this is a Prince fan site not a 'we hate Prince' site. There's a few on here who basically only have negative things to say about Prince. It makes others wonder why those individuals still log on to a site dedicated to a man they don't care for at all. If the poster is no longer a fan of Prince and hasn't been for some time then what do they hope to gain in posting on topics about Prince? Either they want validation for their opinions on Prince, are hoping to convert a current fan to their viewpoint or they're simply here to incite a negative atmosphere. That's just my opinion on what you asked. the original poster on this topic thread also thinks that 'Tinie Tempah is the new Prince' so he's hardly a credible example of what you may be trying to defend.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

You make your point eloquently.

However, I do believe that fans come in different shapes and sizes with different opinions.

Imagine how boring the org would be if it were just full of fams saying how amazing Lotusflower is or how wonderful it is to see Shelby!

There are plenty of valid things to call himout on. No one said anything about not calling him out ripping his fans.

It's one thing to call him out on valid things, another is being a troll. I personally beleive if you wanna troll, be a troll. It's a free world. But dont get ofended when you get called out.

but having a site that doesn't allow subjective questions of opinons will make this the NPGMC and i don't feel it's "negativity" at all it's actually healthy 2 have disagreements about something. what's the difference of some sayin star wars is a piece of junk yet others see it as classic? just cause it's prince? that's not being subjective and honest, it's more of big brother is watching u and u can't say ur peace. there seems 2 be this "air" that prince can do no wrong and we should all bow down 2 his feet. we're all consumers of a product that prince puts out 2 sell and some dig it some don't. case in point ..have u seen threads about graffiti bridge? also my tag line says it all and what others have been feeling alot lately 2wards prince, not just his studio work but his live work as well. change is supposed 2 be good and as fans of his music, calling 4 a change in what songs he does live isn't so out of the question. but then those that state these opinions get called all types of vile crap that is unneccesary. just as im sure when those that reflect "positivity" get bent out shape in the name calling they receive. my own personal choice now is that i will not attend another prince show in a arena setting regardless how much the tickets are but that's my choice. i'm not asking anyone 2 follow me or oppose me, just sticking 2 what i know because honestly, i had a way better time seeing janet jackson live then prince simply because i KNEW what janet was going 2 do, not pull the wool over my eyes by saying over and over again "i'm retiring this song that song" but then still doing the same songs that were supposed 2 have been 'retired" years ago. this is a man with sooooooooooo much talent and soooooooooo many songs that his fans over the years have either come 2 love and embrace and some just right out repulse them now. in the end it's about letting everyone have their say and not be judged or jumped upon either way 4 feeling the way they do. but hey it's chaos and disorder right?

Agreed!! I used to be pumped to see him perform. Now I skip fast forward through the whole show. He brings nothing exciting anymore as I hate to admit but hes become predictable and boring. It changed when it became about the money instead of the music. Money is the downfall to everything, including Prince.

I've always viewed your criticisms of Prince as constructive and based upon repsect for the artist and his music. There are others on here who only post on threads that are of a negative bent. If there's a topic about Prince that show him in a negative light these orgers always pop up to revel in it. They enjoy it. That's the line. I've hung out with you and you are not a 'hater' but I was dreading meeting any of these perpetually negative orgers at a pre concert get together. Anybodys view can be respected as long as it comes from a place of love/respect for the topic. I don't get that from a lot of orgers when I read what they write.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I thought the same thing until I saw him in South Carolina and NYC's MSG. Thoz were HOT shows. If you have the chance to see the YouTube recordings of the shows like I have, you wouldn't say that. Then again, maybe one would ...
