When the new Barclays Center opens in Brooklyn, New York on September 28,2012, that will be yet another option. I am hoping Prince plays there. Missed him when he made a surprise appearance in Prospect Park in Brooklyn back in 2006 right after a Maceo Parker concert. Twas the night before his Good Morning America appearance with Tamar, Sheila E and the Twins. He also played Butter in nyc after that. Brooklyn loves Prince. Bring it back brother.21 nights sounds C-O-O-L!!
Yes, you missed a good show at Butter that night. This is news to me about that Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I wish they would build something like that in Queens. There was talk about building a new convention center in Flushing Meadow park a couple of years ago, when Mayor Bloomberg was trying to get the Olympics here, but looks like that's not going to happen. |

That's too far and buses out in that county basically stop running after 11pm, not to mention waiting forever to catch a train at the Long Island railroad station, and you need transportation to get there too from Nassau Coliseum. I remember travelling there years ago to see concerts, and it's easier if you have a car. Not much around that area either for people, i.e. tourist attractions. Just too desolate an area for a 21 night stay.
It's so much easier if it was at all possible at MSG or at the theatre at MSG, which is a smaller venue attached to MSG. Only has about 5,000 seats, but if he couldn't do 21 nights at the MSG arena, then why not there?
In the 34th street area, we have a major transportation hub below - trains/buses/subway, that make it easy and accessible for people to get there, and the fact that trains/subway stop into Penn station, and hundreds of eateries, plethora of hotels, and other tourist attractions surrounding the area of MSG, it would be easy for concert goers to get around the city.
i ahve seen prince in every major arena around nyc/nj , jones beach, pnc, the meadowlands and the garden and each show was heavily attended so it's not like there isnt' a way 2 attend the shows. where this is a will there is a way. and i know some from long island that made it 2 thegarden 4 the shows in december and this year.
I've only seen him perform at Nassau Coliseum back in the Purple Rain days, but it's easier if you have a car to drive there, because transportation does not run late over there. I just find the 34th street area so convenient, with the plethora of hotels/eateries/restaurants/transportation hubs/and tourist attractions, if there was a string of shows in the same week, visitors can use their off-concert time to see other attractions. There's not much around the Nassau Coliseum area other than some restaurants/fast food places in scattered areas. Not putting the Long Island area down of course, just find it easier to get around the 34th street area. |

arena shows means one thing ..casual fans in the house!! (and that interperts the hits yet again) it's hard 4 any act 2 book a long term stint in NY. the reason i say nassau would be the best place to do it, cause according 2 what had been said about the london stint, the O2 arena is not in the smack of london there seems 2 be like a shuttle or train that would get u out there. i could be wrong so if someone from the UK that went could give more detail that would be cool.
and really prince would only have to do 17 more nights in NYC man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

True, he could spread the shows out like he did with the shows in December, but you know what? There's fans in other states that want to see him in their location this year too. He's doing 21 nights in LA, so it seems that may spread out to early June. So somehow I don't see a return to NYC anytime soon, with other fans requesting that he visits their states. I was at the Jones Beach show in '97, and saw Santana there. From NJ, that is the drive to and from HELL.
I would be heartbroken if he was "that close" because it's too hard for me to get there.

The bright side is that if does come back out to NYC, it'll be summer.
It was so uncomfortable being in heavy clothes outside and then sweating out of them in MSG. That place was 1000 degrees!
Plus, it's easier to be "cute" in the summer.
I also keep checking the Summer schedules for Today Show and GMA...

Well, I wasn't living in NYC from 1990 - to early 1995. I returned mid 1995 (thank goodness! ), from North Florida. I think before that, the last concert I attended was the Lovesexy tour at MSG and Nassau Coliseum in 1988, then returned to being a fan in 2004 Musicology tour. So I guess I missed out on shows after 1988 up until early 2004, until Musicology. [Edited 4/19/11 9:29am] |

Yes it was cold, but I stayed in a hotel after the 3 shows I attended at MSG, (yes I know I live in NYC and had the nerve to do it like a tourist visiting.. ) so it wasn't too bad for me, although I had on light, winter wear, once the coat came off. I didn't go to the NJ shows because I didn't feel like waiting for the bus at Port Authority, and around that time of the year, Port Authority is madness. It's bad enough the 34th street area was packed with tourists all through December and just walking on the sidewalk, you had to try and claim space just to walk. I think it would be nice if he did this again during the warmer climate in NYC, and non-holiday season. |

It would be so nice to have Prince in NY during the summer. It is a pain going to concerts w/ the bulky coats, layers, scarves u gotta worry about losing...
Summer shows just so much better.
I think overall, it is easier for everyone to get around in Manhattan, but I have heard raving about the Prudential Center sound system (not to mention a rumor a while ago from someone at Prudential Center that P would be playing there- which i just took to be false since hasnt happened in some time since hearing rumor). I have not been to any events at Prudential Center just because I dont care about the teams playing there n feel like why go out there when I can see whatever I want right in NY. I would only bother going over to NJ if Prince plays there (which I did for Izod shows). I have no problem w/ NJ, I even lived there for a couple of years when i was a kid, but I just feel like it is a pain to go over there from NY so I rarely bother anymore. |

I don't know if this was mentioned yet but the MSG arena is closed this summer for renovations. The Theater is still open but I doubt Prince is coming back anyway. |
