so i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that i should've gotten married prior to tonight because this has been the best night of my life. my future wife is gonna have to be pretty...damned...amazing as a whole now. lol.

at one point i was able to get right at the velvet rope at the VIP section from the LOGE. i wish my phone hadn't died because near the end I was like 10 feet from him. :/ oh well...

Awesome concert! Over 3h long!!! A lot of songs I've never heard live like Cool, Uptown etc. (I first went in 1986 and this is my 8th Prince concert).

I'll probably go again in a few weeks. smile

Too me, this was better than the Musicology tour and perhaps the best Prince concert I have ever been too (better than Sign O The Times tour).

He did sing a littile bit of Dreamer about half the first verse or so. Lots of people went home too early and missed the last couple of encores.

I wish I wasn't living in Estonia right now! This setlist is very good + some celebrities on stage = this is most certainly going to attract media and the tickets will sell out (with those prices easily)

My Review:

I am in total shock. Just got home and its 1:15am. I have seen about 12 Prince shows over 20 years and that was crazy. It went for 3 1/2 hours and Prince was in GREAT form. Evening started off rough as there was no support and even though the site/ticket said 7:30, we sat there for 1 1/2 hours waiting.. there were several attempts at switching out the house lights (so it seemed) and the crowd was booking a bit as it seemed lame, like the Forum people were screwing up the system... AND THEN...... he came on and he played and played and played. He said 'I am gonna give you the Sat night show!' I think he wanted to make sure everyone forget the late start and issues and by the end of the night people were saying it was the best show and longest show they have ever seen!

It was well balanced, changed it up a bit from NYC and Oakland, starting with DMSR and Pop Life.. He really got into his own with Cool Lets Work etc. He also played extended versions with a long version of Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette slowed down and sublime. He was in a great mood. The crowd was partying and loving the energy. He sounded great despite not sounding great on Lopez Tonight so we were relieved and delighted. The Beautiful Ones was heartfelt and really emotional. Same with Insatiable/Scandalous and Adore. His voice sounding great, his falsetto was husky and raw and sounding really strong.

Kiss was a lot of fun for the crowd, loving the dancing, then came the piano sampler. He played the beginning of When Doves Cry and stopped and the crowded responded NO!! so he laughed and sang most of the track! Same with Sign Of The Times. Darling Nikki whipped up everyone into a panty twist for a min or so!

THEN came the encores... All 5 or 6 of them!!!! I saw him do Love Bizarre in NYC and get the crowd up on stage and then the show ended but tonight, at that point we didn't imagine there would be another 4-5 encores... Crazy! Highlights for me was a never heard before version of Sometimes It Snows in April on guitar... SUBLIME. And Endorphinemachine!!!!! (Peach and Black Podcast if you are reading...WOW, I think Prince is listening!) She's Always in My Hair and Dreamer also incredible. I saw him do Bambi and Dreamer in Oakland but I have to say this version of Dreamer was shredfastic. So a great night for guitar solos from the Prince camp.

I still didn't get my piano solo. I really wanted to see How Come U Dont Call Me Anymore and Condition of the Heart etc but there is 20 shows left in LA, I think it will happen for me. Overall, amazing unforgettable concert and I am a tough critic. I know when he's in form. He's obviously going for word of mouth and this will do it. The last 3rd of the show was about half full as all the fools left. I have to say, I am really happy with my $25 tickets. I was in the front row of the LOGE section with a perfect view and I have to tell you, get a car, get a boat, get a canoe, but get to LA. Prince is in town and he is bringing his A game.

I want to echo this poster's review. Absolutely fantastic concert, not to be missed, probably the most special Prince concert I've ever seen and I've witnessed some special moments with him over the years. I'd like to add that the Forum staff put on a really nice presentation...ushers and attendants were attentive and helpful with a positive attitude. I've seen so many poorly managed venues that I like to give props when I find one that puts on a good show for its patrons. Re the venue...after being in venues like Staples Center and the Nokia, the Forum now feels small to me, almost intimate. I've seen several concerts at the Forum from the '80s onward and this was by far the best sounding show ever, without a doubt. Each instrument was clear and mixed well...great balance, superb clarity, no mush, same for the vocals. This is VERY important to me because if the sound is mush then what's the point? Whoever designed the sound and mixed the show deserves MAJOR props.

The setlist above is accurate so I won't re-post it. Definitely recommend that you don't leave when the lights come up until you see the crew begin to sweep the stage and break down the equipment because Prince did NOT want to leave last night. By the end the arena was only maybe 25% full, yet he continued to put on a fanstastic performance for those of us who endured until the end. This was a special night. "Sometimes It Snows In April" was damned-near tear inducing...very poignant, sensitive performance. Never heard him do it before on electric guitar like that, and the entire song at that. There was a special moment I saw on the video screen (also great presentation & quality; crystal clear, no glitches): at the end of "Endorphinemachine," Prince made eye contact with John Blackwell, smiled and pointed at his hair...that was his signal to go into "She's Always In My Hair," which felt spontaneous yet was flawless. The only criticism I had for the main performance was that Prince didn't play as much guitar as I would like...being a guitar player I can't get enough of his playing. Well, he made up for that and more during the encores as he got his inner rock star on with a vengeance! It felt like Prince wanted to make up for starting 90 minutes late by giving up 90 extra minutes...more than made up for the late start. Like I said, a special night and I will be returning for more. To charge $25 for such a show is beyond a gift and he should be commended for making the shows accessible for everyone to see. We are very fortunate to be able to experience this man perform...still at the height of his powers. As he said during the show, "All of us get older...but I still look the same." wink Thank you Prince.

Amazing, best I have ever seen him. I first saw him in '97, and I've caught mose of his LA stops ever since.

Tips for people going to other shows: bring cash, the Forum has no ATM and only one or two concessions take cards at all; long ass lines for those, short ones at the cash bars. Plan to stay late. I'm guessing they made him stop at 12:30.

That wa s sooo good, and yes, he was in great form, This was 100% turnaround from the flat Nokia Theater.

There were great seats at the box office for $25 at 7pm... 4th row floors and loges near the stage. If you can handle an extra $25 you might think about checking with them, an upgrade could be worth it.

We had loge 9 row O which was just about perfect...right on the "50 yard line", looking straight at the piano mic.

More detailed review to come, good night!

WOW............. the concert was amazing. Prince was in excellant shape, dancing around, and was just having a good time. This concert was 1000x better than it was at Nokia in 2009.

I stayed for all the encores. All the people that left after what they thought was the end of the concert are probably kicking themselves right now.

Oh, and Prince looked HOT as ever.
