Will post a more in-depth review tomorrow but I wanted to give an accurate setlist.

Doors did not open until 7 because Prince wanted to do another soundcheck.

Chaka Khan started at 8 and performed for about 25 minutes. Her setlist was:

--Voice introduction by Prince

--I Feel For You

--Ain't Nobody

--song I didn't know, lol

--Tell Me Something Good

--I'm Every Woman

Prince started at about 8:55:

--Piano/sampler set

----When Doves Cry

----Nasty Girl musical interlude

----Sign O' the Times

----The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

----Alpahabet Street

----Hot Thing

----If I Was Your Girlfriend (first full song)

--Insatiable

--Scandalous

--Adore

--Raspberry Beret

--Cream

--Cool

--Let's Work

--U Got the Look

(costume change)

--Angel by the backup singers

--Sweet Thing w/Chaka

--Controvery/Housequake snippet/Controversy/Love Rollercoaster snippet

--Play that Funky Music with crowd on stage dancing and Prince on bass

--Let's Go Crazy

--Delirious

--1999

--Little Red Corvette

--Purple Rain

--Encore 1

----She's Always In My Hair intro

----Kiss

--Encore 2 long after 95% of the crowd had left

----DMSR

Total show time just under 2 hours.

No afterparty or aftershow announced.

I sat on the right side of the stage between the crossbar and arrow of the symbol. Very good seats though further from center of stage than I expected. I was on the floor in the VIP tables area for DMSR. While it was cool to be 5 feet away from Prince (kinda like the Musicology Tour), you could see virtually nothing (and I'm 6'3").

I had a good time, but I tell ya' that was one of the strangest Prince shows I have ever been to. It doesn't have any flow, vision, or focus. It's like nothing is really organized, the set list just meanders aimlessly. Opening with the sampler set was very unsual, the non-hardcore didn't know what to make of it. And don't get me wrong, I like the sampler set to a certain degree, IF it has the right balance. But I thought it started things off kind of weird for most of the crowd.

Cool, Sweet thing duet with Chaka, and DMSR at the end for a few hundred were the highlights for me.

DMSR was very funky, just wished he would have played some bass on it too. But then again I am sort of greedy.

The last night in New Jersey was a better show/set, better vocals and more kick arse guitar.

We'll see what we get in Greensboro.

The Raleigh W2A show is history. My 18th Prince show. And just as I was thinking the little fella could no longer "wow" me like he used to, he shows up tonight and just kills it! He seemed really happy to have Chaka with him and the version of "Sweet Thing" they did tonight is now the definitive version in my book. Set list posted previously is pretty close. When he came back after Purple Rain, he had changed and the ladies will be happy to know he came out in a black suit with glitter lapels and no shirt. His 52-year-old abs are tighter than mine were at 25 (sick). He started playing "She's Always In My Hair" but stopped just short of singing the first line and went into Kiss. Another highlight was the audience members on stage during one song. They followed him over to the piano and stood around it as he riffed there awhile. Then he brought up more people including one crazy lady and he was hilarious feigning being scared of her.

One note about the seating, the RBC Center has a mid-level called Club and then an Upper Level. All Upper Level folks were cleared out (these were the $99 & $60 ticket levels) and we were sent to the Lower Level. The Cub Level seats were unavailable the first day fix went on sale but opened up later at the $99 price. There were still folks in this level, but only in the center-most sections on the sides of the stage. Needless to say, I'm really glad I only paid $99 and still got lower level seats that originally sold for $200. Also, it looked like about 60% of the VIP table spots were filled. Hope those folks got $500 worth of enjoyment out of them.

Ok, time to get some sleep. Thank you Prince for a memorable night and for restoring my appreciation for your great talent as a live performer. Don't miss the chance if this show comes close to you.

I love the setlist myself. Kinda random. Gives the show some unpredictability. Wish I was there! I envy you guys who got to see Prince and Chaka sing a duet!

Yeah, the duet was really good. Very cool stuff.

Random and unpredictable is an understatement. It was too much so. It was quite strange to me, And I have seen him almost 30 times.

IT. WAS. HELLA. GOOD!!!! nod

His voice sounded amazing!

He was dancing!!

And he looked happy to be in the Carolinas....

Chaka was the sweet icing on the sweetest cake.

3rd balcony was cleaned out! I went from nosebleed to 2nd balcony facing piano and I loved it. I am actually glad not to be moved to a crowded section, my friend and I had almost a whole row to ourselves and were able to dance and had a great view!!!

Did anyone notice if they could move around on the foor and get closer to stage for show or did you have to stay in your seats? Wondering how much he played to back side of arrow what would normally be the behind the stage?

Not sure of the possible movement on the floor. BUT as was normal for this show, he did not play very often towards the back of the circle (top of the stage). The best places to sit to see stuff is pretty much "mid-court" level on the side where the piano is.

just out of curiosity how full was the arena?.

Strange set list. He really does need to stop with the keyboard sample set, surely a waste of time and very frustrating for casual fans. Remember him doing it at the O2 shows in London and the novelty really wore off very quickly!.

I would say the arena was about 75% full. Only the very top level of seats were kept empty entirely. In a smart and gracious move, Prince had all those that paid for those seats moved down in order to fill the spots in the middle levels completely.

The short notice, high tix prices, and down economy helped keep it from being sold out IMHO. But it was impressive to have it that full considering all those factors.

The sampler set, IF done wisely, is actually pretty cool. He just needs to play one or two songs within the set a bit more closer to half way instead of teasing with every song he's ever written. It's like he's his own DJ, I like it but only if it has the right balance of tease and length.

But I don't know about starting the show that way, and then lead into IF I was you're Girlfriend as the first full song. Not many of the general population actually know that song. The hardcore do but not joe blow.

Arena not full at all! They closed off the entire 3rd floor. Maybe 55-60% full?

Which was actually fine by me due to the upgrade. I know folk who paid $20 were ecstatic! I definitely got my money's worth. The floor seats view looked limiting. I got some amazing pics....shhhh. They have a no camera policy and was enforcing it, but as we all know the cell phone has made this a moot point! And trust Prince is aware of that....and he actually doesn't seem to care.

And Insatiable, Scandalous and Adore are 3 of my faves, to hear them back to back and his arrangement *pannies drop!* I have no complaints. It was a great show and even felt very intimate at times. He went ole skool with the setlist.

My 6th or 7th Prince show and least favorite of the "in the round" tours. Granted I still think of Lovesexy as my favorite tour ever and that will never be topped. I agree the opening was a bit strange. The setlist just didn't seem to flow very well. With all those originals playing "Play That Funky Music" seems like a stretch. Kidd's got some abs! I mean a six-pack. He was ripped. And he did tease quite a bit with all of those snippets. He got everyone roaring as he opened with "Y'all know how many hits I got? We could be here all night..."

And why tease us with one line of Housequake?!?! That would have complimented the tornado warning quite nicely.

It was a good time, though. Just needs to trim that Wild Cherry bit and get those folks dancing to something else. Something his.

And "Bang Bang" actually features Prince! This BrownMark single came out in 1989 and was produced by Levi Seacer Jr, probably at Paisley Park. That's cool that it was dusted off for the opening music. Check out his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/br...ypticmusic

At the NJ show, the lights had come on and everyone was leaving. He had already done two encores so everyone thought the show was over. I was tired from dancing all night, so I was resting my feet...and wouldn't you know it, 10 to 15 min. later, Prince comes back out from stadium aisle, gets up without the full band, and belts out four more songs. Thank God for my tired feet!

I learned to NEVER leave a Prince concert. Let security throw you out if they have to. Prince is just unpredictable at times.

A review of last night's show:

http://blogs.newsobserver...ys-raleigh

Nice review:

Prince plays Raleigh

Bookmark and Share

RALEIGH -- Seven years ago, Prince brought a tour to Raleigh that aimed to demonstrate who was the boss (him, of course). Wednesday night brought him back to the RBC Center, and the underlying context this time seemed to be a demonstration of just how many employees, underlings and spinoff divisions he's had.

Prince really was kind of the Motown of the 1980s, with an instantly recognizable sound. Whether it was his name or somebody else's on the Paisley Park Records label, you always knew it was him right away.

That point was made before Wednesday night's performance even began, as the video screens showed a series of videos by '80s-vintage Prince associates including The Family, Sheila E., Andre Cymone, The Time and Mavis Staples. Then after Prince introduced her as "my inspiration, the voice of seven generations, the bridge, my sister," opening act Chaka Khan came out and began with the hit he wrote for her, 1984's "I Feel For You."

As for Prince's two-hour headlining set, it was so tightly scripted he needed teleprompters to keep track. It was intermittently amazing, too, although the opening stretch was a touch too manic. "Y'all know how many hits I got?" he asked. "Wanna hear 'em tonight?"

Yes, but not crammed into a single half-hour. After beginning with "When Doves Cry," he launched into an ADHD-friendly medley featuring regrettably abbreviated snippets of "Sign o the Times," "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," "Hot Thing," "If I Was Your Girlfriend," "Scandalous" and I can't even recall what else.

If the format left something to be desired, Prince and his crack band showed impeccable virtuosity and showmanship. He himself did very little playing during the opening stretch, because he was too busy conducting, directing, shimmying, strutting, preening and stalking the crowd like a gigolo on the make. He put in some impressive footwork as he sang, especially considering that he was wearing red high heels.

Things were just picking up with "Raspberry Beret" and "You Got the Look" when Prince vacated the stage to do an outfit change. And that was when his backup singers sang Sarah McLachlan's "Angel," which was no less dreary as a gospel number than it is as soundtrack for those animal-cruelty commercials. It felt interminable.

Fortunately, Prince returned bearing a guitar. He brought Chaka Khan back onstage for a cameo performance of "Sweet Thing," in which she got a much kinder mix than during her own set (she'd been barely audible over the muddy, indistinct roar of her backup band). The following "Controversy" got everybody hopping up and down, and Prince played some of his best guitar of the night.

A cover of Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" made the perfect excuse to invite a few dozen folks from the audience onstage to dance. After that, it was one bullseye after another: "Let's Go Crazy," "Delirious," "1999," "Little Red Corvette" and an epic 10-minute version of "Purple Rain." The encore version of "Kiss" (with the "Dynasty" lyrical reference changed to "Real Housewives") made for a nice victory lap.

He's still the boss, for sure.

As for the VIP and Floor seats... the stage is indeed pretty high. The closer you get, the less of the band you see... but, Prince and the 3 background singers are almost always visible.

In the Columbia thread, I mentioned that security allowed me to stand at the VIP area..I just wasn't allowed to sit down...which was fine by me. Ha ha! But, I could not see the band at all... even before that, I had to look at the Jumbotron in order to see the band. I suppose the focus is Prince, and those really expensive tickets are for those who really want to see The Man up close... and good lord, when he came down that arrow or played the piano, he was super close and I got some great cell phone pics, cell videos and made eye contact. Bassida did come to the piano and stayed there playing bass for a good while towards the end.

And, as someone mentioned above, Prince doesn't seem to care about the cell phones at all. There were times he looked right into people's cell cameras and sang right to them (hot young ladies). Other times, he would do these big, long dramatic poses with his arms wide open as if he was screaming for his picture to be taken. And, I obliged..hee hee. He even had the whole place take out our cell phones and wave them around...which was a cool effect.

But, back to the Floor/VIP seating thing... Based on my one concert experience, if you want to see everything (band, full effect of the symbol stage and the man) I would not recommend Floor or VIP seats. If you wanna just see the man up close doing his thing and you and he looking each other in the face, I'd say Floor or VIP seats on the piano side are the best.

Lovesexy was my first Prince show in HArtford. Blew me away and not sure he has done anything since that could beat it. Saw him at walnut creek and he was doing short snippets. Hope he changes that up for Greensboro. Also figure none of these shows will have more then 2/3 house.
How was the sound? I am looking forward to GReensboro and Saturday Night. Be fun if Prince would play Purple Rain from start to finish. Might help ticket sales if he announced a tour like this and did an entire album at each show......

I saw the Lovesexy tour twice and yes...that set the standard for ALL concerts for me. I was also at the Walnut Creek show in '97. The sound was really bad from Chaka and improved for Prince but it certainly could have been better.

I appreciate the feedback on the VIP/Floor seating!
