Places to visit in Raleigh or Durham (music, food, record shops) I'm a midwest girl (Chicago & Indianapolis) and I have never been anywhere past Cincinnati. Now I'm going to attend the Raleigh concert and I'm wondering what are some of teh things to do in the southeast. I heard the Carolina food was awesome and there's really rich music bloack around down there. Also, I would love to know where the great record shops are at!
So if any of you who are going to the concerts or even live down there can help me with hot spots, that would be really great! Thanks in advance! Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

someone lying to ya....lol. Actually if you were going to Greensboro or Charlotte you'd have more options than Raleigh/Durham. There's not much around RBC. Durham's considered ghetto. Raleigh doesn't really have much of anything. Cary has a couple of malls. But you are welcome to hang out with me and my friend pre concert if you want.

I live in raleigh and one of the guys I work with collects vinyl, he told me Schoolkids Records is where he goes http://www.yelp.com/biz/s...ds-raleigh . He's a pretty indie/hipster guy so I'm sure they'd have some good finds

Yeah i'll be going to the Raleigh show, I would be going to the Greensboro show but I had some unexpected expenese so it'd be pretty irresponsible for me to go to both. You should check out some BBQ joints while you're in town if you want to get a feel for southern food.

I am hitting Ral and G'boro. BBQ is definately a good choice. Coopers in downtown Ral for an old time joint or The Pit for old style food in a modern resturaunt setting. Both are really good. You are also close enough to go to Chapel Hill. Momma Dips is excellent for country style meals (meat and 2 veggies, etc..).
There used to be a good vinyl shop on Lee Street in G'boro - not far from the coliseum. Not sure of the name.

If you have some $$ to spend, check out a very unique place in Raleigh called Solas.
This is where the hockey players partied after the all-star game, and would be an AWESOME spot for an after-show.

I'm from Durham. Go to Bullocks BBQ in Durham if you are in the mood for it (it was featured on Rachel Ray's $40 a Day) http://bullocksbbq.com/
Depending on what you are into, Glenwood Ave in Raleigh is the general spot for bars, nightclubs, restaurants in Raleigh. Ask anyone while in Raleigh, they'll know where on Glenwood.
The Old Tobacco District/Downtown in Durham is really sexy. I recommend the Republic, the Whiskey Bar, and the Wine Bar.
I agree Mama Dips is good too. I LOVE the Whiskey Bar and Republic. I love Durham. They have done so much to clean up and rennovate the city! Highly recommend it. I wish I could go to Durham to see the Raleigh show! But I'll be in GSO next Saturday!
