THINGS TO DO/SEE WHILE IN COLUMBIA, SC Since this is my hometown, I'm compelled to tell you about spots to check out while you're there:
Riverbanks Zoo Sesqui Park Five Points (this is where the college and 'artsy' type hang in Columbia) Papa Jazz (also in Five Points) The Vista (in walking distance to the Colonial Center and likely the best place to pregame before the show since there are several hotels and bars in the area) Hunter Gatherer (would be cool if a small aftershow kicked off here, but if not it's still worth the visit) Chic-Fil-A (if you're not from the South and never had it, I highly recommend it!) SC State Museum Sandhills
Also, there's no real public transportation system in Columbia, and if you plan on flying in to Columbia Metropolitan Airport, you might want to call a cab, cause the airport is not in walking distance to the city center. You can fly into Atlanta and drive the 3 hours to Columbia, or fly into Charlotte, NC and drive 90minutes to Columbia.
I'm sure I'm missing some items, so feel free to add to the list. Don't know much bout Chucktown or NC, but Columbia WILL BE ROCKING NEXT MONDAY. Wish I could be there!
And feel free to move if this is the wrong thread.

Chick Fil A is probably my favorite fast food chain, but can't imagine that I would add fast food to my list of things to do. I'm driving up from the Orlando Area, and wondered if there are any great sit down places to eat? If I get there on Sunday, I'll be bored to tears, so stuffing myself sounds like the plan, even though I'm getting closer than ever to my High School weight! lol.

You could always try out some "yellow" BBQ at Maurice's.
(It's yellow 'cause they use a mustard-based sauce. We were passing thru & tried it. It's quite good.)

Don't eat at Maurice's. The owner is a fucking racist! After they (finally) took the Confederate flag off the top of the statehouse, he decided to put them outside of all of his restaurants. I wouldn't support that biggot

I won't go anywhere where they fly a confederate flag. I'm white, and have seen too many of my white "brothers" do racist things. I guess I have always felt that somebody has to pick on white racists, and that would be me.

I was born in Columbia. Papajazz records is amazing. Blue sky's Mural "tunnelvision" is very cool. The eggroll station has awsome chinese food cooked by mexicans.

Yep, I go there every few weeks to browse. They usually have a pretty good selection of used P CDs and even a few on vinyl. I think all their used CDs are $8 or less. I just discovered Scratch n Spin a few weeks ago too (another new/used wrecka stow), just a couple of miles across the river in West Columbia.

Ooops. I forgot about the confederate flag thing. That sucks.
It's been quite some time since we were thru there. I noticed that stuff when we were there but I didn't realize the full story till I read about it online.

Sidenote: when I was first getting into Prince and trying to track down everything he committed to disc, Papa Jazz had a "leg up" ((wink)) on the competition there and they were all originals no cd-r. I passed up the chance to buy any because A: they were expense, and B: I assumed I'd be able to buy them whenever I want since they were in huge supply. And we're talking quality sets like the one with the Prince of Darkness. DEFINITELY HIT UP PAPA JAZZ WHILE YOU'RE IN TOWN!!!!

When I was at USC, I lived in Capstone dorm. 5 Points was right behind there. I went to Pappa Jazz every week and found a lot my Prince vinyl. [Edited 3/23/11 21:41pm]
