Carolina set list predictions?

SO EXCITED to be taking my 12 and 10 year olds to this concert! They have been waiting so long and are so pumped! Also taking about 8 friends who "like Prince" but don't know he has released anything since Purple Rain. (Oh, and one youngun who said, "I thought Purple Rain was just a song. There's a MOVIE???")

Wanting to put together a playlist for them to prepare them for the show. What do you recommend based on what he's been playing or is likely to play?

THANKS in advance!

The set list will probably be something similar to this:

  1. Let's Go Crazy/Delirious
  2. 1999
  3. Little Red Corvette
  4. Shhh
  5. Angel
  6. Nothing Compares 2 U
  7. Uptown
  8. Raspberry Beret
  9. Cream
  10. Cool
  11. Let's Work
  12. U Got the Look
  13. The Glamorous Life
  14. Controversy
  15. The Beautiful Ones
  16. She's Always In My Hair
  17. If I Was Your Girlfriend
  18. Insatiable
  19. Scandalous!
  20. Adore
  21. Purple Rain
  22. Kiss
  23. Piano Medley or Sample Medley
  24. Sometimes It Snows in April
  25. The Bird
  26. Jungle Love

Why would you take your kids to a Prince show (despite whatever Prince says to do; he's just looking at it as extra income/revenue source)?? See, this is what ruins the experience for me is when people like you think it's so cute that little Johnny dances and knows every word to Cream or something and then takes them him (or them, as in plural) to a show that ends at 11:00 pm, at the earliest.

Who wants to be sitting next to some whiny, dumb ass kid at a Prince show?? Yeah, I've had it happen to me, twice back-to-back. Ive just never understood it and probably never will. LEAVE THEM AT HOME, and enjoy a night out as an adult!

I think 11 and under should stay home, unless they truly show a passion for Prince's work, and I doubt too many kids have a decent passion. At age 12, I had a passion for the J. Geils Band, and was not allowed to go to the concert. The opening act was U2, so if I had been allowed to go, I would've been able to tell people my first show was U2 on the October Tour. I guess saying my first show was The Police with the Fixx opening can't be all that bad though.

Well if those restrictions were the case, there wouldn't be as many Orgers or Quakers online would there? Many fans were introduced to Prince either by will, coicidence, or friendly force under the age of 18 and even 10. Just the case of exposure that's all wink

Imagine all the preteeny bops who were singing Little Red Corvette and Darling Nikki back then and didn't know a lick of what it meant, now they're here on the Org and/or MAJOR Prince fans

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Honestly, I think for safety and health reasons the ages should not be under 10, with 11 being the best choice. I have just seen too many parents who think they are good parents, watching their kids out of control, and just saw a 9 year old unattended get hurt at the post office, while his 3 year old brother was supposed to be his responsibility. A concert with 15,000 wonderful people and maybe 100 full blown perverts is not the place for a child. The possible hearing loss from someone whose ears are still developing is also another concern. To me, it seems there are too many risks for taking kids to a concert.

My parents started to take me to concerts when I was just a little older than 10, nothing wrong with that.

Just make sure they have earprotection, don't want to ruin those precious little hearingthings wink

Have a blast !

Wow, isn't the .org a warm and friendly place these days!

I assure you my children will not be ruining anything for anyone. My 10 year old daughter can sing every word to all the post JW albums (because they are relatively clean) and her favorite songs are Lolita and Get on the Boat. (Not arguing she has great taste, but we like what we like!) My 12 year old can't wait to see Prince because he remembers how sad his mom was after a really hard time and how great she felt when she came back from Vegas in 2007. At that time, he said, "Prince must be so great if he can make you feel so much better, Mommy! I can't wait to see him when I'm older!" So with every new album since 3121, he would ask, "Think he's gonna tour with this one, Mom? Remember, I really want to go to a concert!"

They both have had their own kid-friendly Prince mixes on their ipods/mp3 players since they were old enough to be discerning. Along with all the most popular stuff kids listen to today, they love some Earth, Wind, and Fire, MJ, Mother's Finest, and Stevie Wonder.

My kids will know more of the music and appreciate what they are seeing far more than MOST of the "fans" in that arena who can only sing the words to Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy. And the bottom line is that Prince himself has suggested that we bring our kids for the very purpose of introducing them to good music by real musicians. While I would LOVE to see some naughty Prince again, I love him for cleaning things up enough that I can bring my 12 and 10 year old.

So, we'll be there! We'll be singing and dancing, not whining and not sitting down waiting for 1999. We'll leave that to the 95% of people who think he hasn't released anything in the past 20 years.

P.S. At 4 years old, my now 12 year old told me that Prince wrote TMBGITW for me. (Then at 6 he said, "Actually he wrote it for my teacher." eek)

And of course, they will have ear protection, will be closely monitored, etc. And I AM enjoying a night out as an adult, as I am attending Raleigh on Wed, and not taking the kids out until SATURDAY in Greensboro!

Yes, age has got nothing to do liking older music.

But wouldn't most people there remember the Musicology tour and album, and the prince Slave period? They are Prince fans, right?

I don't mean to suggest that those folks aren't fans. Everyone has a different level of "fandom" and that's cool. I was trying to suggest that my CHILDREN shouldn't be discriminated against because of their age when their knowledge and appreciation of Prince's music will rival many adults that are there.

Wow--thank you so much for your support! I read lots of emotional reactionary posts on here, but this is just music. It's fun, it makes me feel good, and I like sharing my excitement with others who can relate. Thanks for taking the time to post something so positive! Sending lots of positive energy back your way. wink

Yeah, but if you were alive in 1993-94 the whole change name/WB thing would have been pretty memorable. Die hard or not.

I hear you, but what I find among my contemporaries (late 30's early 40's) is that many of them think he is STILL the love symbol and at the time thought it was such a publicity stunt that they didn't bother to listen to his music anymore. . .and sadly haven't gone back to take a listen since. I'm not one of those fans who likes every song or even every album, but I have made a conscious choice to expose my kids to all "eras" of his music (to the extent that I can. I mean, let's face it, my 10 year old girl doesn't know about COME yet. LOL!)

I see nothing wrong with the kids going so they can see a real musician with talent who can do everything unlike what is on the radio now. Who knows what they may want to do in life and if they have musical aspirations there is no one better to try and emulate but Prince. headbang

Just remember to take the earplugs!
