Anyone peep out MC Lyte in the audience? She literally sat the entire evening ... as if she were too cool.
No one mentioned the music videos played for walk-in and during break for LG and Prince set.

When y'all are saying "snippet" do you mean a sample from the record or he played the song with the band for a few seconds (i.e. live music)? I wanna know if Nasty Girl was played by the instruments or he just played a pre-recorded sample? Same for Jungle Love?

Jungle Love was with the band. Nasty Girl, Sign of the Times, A Street, Darling Nikki, Black Sweat, Pop Life were all samples. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

He actually played them live though, right? He was at the piano? I didn't think they were samples from the records

No they were literally samples from his sampler which is the keyboard built into the piano shell.
He was playing actual samples from the When Doves Cry solo over and over, like free styling almost. He did the same thing during several of the samples. But everything was indeed just him fuckin around with samples from the actual songs, not performing any part of it but vocals.

Just saw on the local news that the guy who caught Prince's guitar when he tossed it got the crap kicked out of him during the ensuing struggle, whereupon security later took it back from him and told him "You don't get to keep it; it's just part of the show". He later got a guitar pick for all his troubles. What showmanship.
Prince, of course, has said nothing on the matter.
Really sours what was otherwise an incredible night

Are you KIDDING??? That's pretty ridiculous. I was sooo envious of him, but now I'm glad I wasn't is his position. Can you imagine how excited the guy was, only to have it taken away. I was shocked when Prince tossed it into the crowd, so I guess this doesn't really surprise me. I have been part of Prince's crowd surfing guitar experiences at after shows, etc, and those were very cool. [Edited 2/25/11 8:13am]

Wow, I finally get to post! I was sitting in section 113 club on Wed., the side of the stage Prince threw his guitar into the audience and Prince looked apprehensive to throw his guitar in. I noticed the dude who gets paid to catch his guitar was not on point all night. I think Prince wanted to throw it to the roadie, but he wasn't there cuz Prince stalled and did like a one, two, three before he actually released his guitar. The look on his face was like, Fuck it. The VIP section went crazy and we could see from our seats that someone was getting beat down... like WHOAH! There was another time when Prince had to gesture (moving his head like 'bring my guitar up now') FOUR times before the roadie brought it up on stage. Dude, that's your only job, follow Prince and catch his guitar! You're getting paid to do that! SHoooot, I'll take his job and I won't let Prince down! Overall, the show was AMAZING!! I agree the Little Red Corvette was a highlight, GORGEOUS version with beautiful guitar. The red lighting added to the drama, which is why we love Prince. And, what doesn't need to be said, is COTDAMN PRINCE IS STILL A SEXY MF!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like ridiculous how sexy that man is,even more so in real life. Sheila E is like the luckiest woman to be able to have the relationship she has with Prince. I think she's smart to stick to the music, because that's the only way a woman can really stay in that man's life it seems to me. Also, I love the LOVE that and RESPECT the Oakland got.....cuz we deserve it yall!!!

Maybe I've just been to too many shows, but I'd think it's pretty obvious you don't get to KEEP the guitar!

Yeah we do, I`m glad we have a special place in his heart but you can always tell he wish there were more Black folks at his Oakland concerts.

Huh? what makes you say that?? "Paisley Park is in your Heart"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How can you tell that? | |

Agreed - fantastic pic! But I don't recognise the bass - it looks severely beat up...

The bass is Rhonda's. Prince grabbed it from her

Prince has a special place in his heart for Oakland because of the foundation of FUNKATEERS who originate from here...Prince got a lot of his Funk from the Bay Area scene..which is predominantly, but not exclusively, Black and Brown folks. I didn't see that he wished there were more Black folks in attendance, but he definitely was giving props to The Funkateers who started it all; who aren't making any money today from their ground breaking music and who were ahead of their time musically.
