The tix price usually includes tax and service fees, but that service fee has to be some type of error.

I'll repeat what I said on a concert thread: I just called the Oakland Coliseum office and they aren't sure yet what kind of stage Prince is going to have. The person I spoke to said (hopefully!) they will have more information on the stage set-up by tomorrow (whether it is an end stage or a symbol stage). I said this information is crucial to buying tickets on Friday! She ruefully replied, "Yeah, I know!" They seemed flustered by this last minute announcement, just as everyone else is!

I couldn't agree more. I love Prince and really want to see him on multiple shows but, for example, I live in Portland,OR and would have gone to any and all Bay Area shows but this type of illogical marketing is not only bad business, it reflects that Prince is still eccentric and has big problems working with anyone or anything that doesn't completly conform to his impossible ways. He's only losing A LOT of ticket sales by operating this way. People can bitch at me all day about this, tell me "no ones making you buy a ticket"- but thats not the point. The point is he's not operating with a solid management team that has his best interests in order. For someone who seems to love money, I've never seen someone flush so much money making opportunity down the tubes.

That's also not too far from Sly Stone... could you imagine Prince does a 2 hour show then hits people with a real Sly and the Family Stone reunion for the encore.... PLUS Prince as a backing musician?

I wonder if he waits to the last minute to try and cut favorable deals with venues that have not yet been booked. Sort of like booking airline tickets when they go on sale. (Speaking of which, I hope that anyone who travels to these concerts has alternate plans for fun in the Bay Area if Prince fails to show up.)

I might just tale a trip to SF to catch him. I love the Bay area.

And I agree with YOU. Wishing him the best but I predict poor sales. The cons totally outweigh the pros this time -- insane ticket prices for a last minute weeknight show at a gigantic stadium with horrendous sound. I'm spending my hard-earned paycheck on the Chromeo show instead.

he cant do that because there union halls.some venues are cheaper to rent thats why he was in new jersey for a week before the start of the tour to stage the concert .if he did that at msg it would cost to much.when he played nj the promoter and him took a bath on ticket sales.canceld the first nite i heard they only sold 4000 tickets thats why. 2 and nite was half full and alot of that was comps.

Great idea! So many hip and historical smaller venues in the city of SF. However, I get the feeling that the Prince of today is no longer interested in appealing to an inner-city alternative audience. It's all about Celebs and Stadiums. His last show here was an exclusive for CitiBank for fucks sake. Kind of a shame as I remember some of his best after-shows being at downtown's gritty DNA lounge. How much do I miss his concept of "Uptown." Oakland Arena would definitely be the biggest profit margin for an act but the worst choice for local fans of funk.

^^^ That's what I'm thinking--that Prince is picking cheaper venues that have available dates for these hit n run concerts. The Oakland Coliseum didn't have anything booked for those dates. What is questionable to me is how is he going to fill an almost 20,000 seat venue in a few days!!!? Will he cancel it like he did the first Izod show on Dec. 14? And that was with plenty of notice! I know because I bought a ticket for that and then had to scramble to exchange it for the Friday show. I hope he doesn't pull the same thing in Oakland...but I wouldn't be suprised.
