Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings opening for Prince on 1/18/11 at MSG?

Okay, so I got this info from orger "Mrsoulpower" in the non-Prince forum. Not sure how accurate this info is, but if it is, very interesting.

It will be officially announced either today or very soon, but it's confirmed.

If you've never seen them before (which is hard to believe knowing that you're from NY biggrin ), you're in for a treat.

Same here. I hear they put on quite a show.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings did a cool cover of Take Me With U on the SPIN magazine Purplish Rain album.

You're upset because you'll also get to see one of the greatest Soul acts in the world today, giving you one of the most powerful shows out there?

Geez, these Prince fans .. lol

They should be easily the best opening act you see on the tour. Incredible musicianship, stage presence and tunes. Pure soul.

I recently read an article about Sharon Jones on AOL. I didn't know who she was, but I was inspired by her story.

I just went back to the SPIN album and checked it out again.... music

I can't wait! biggrin

thanks 2 those that posted links and upon first impression their sound is very much soulful and classic soul which i like very much. i have high hopes now of a impressive live act instead of a banshee in white and black that i couldn't understand one damn word coming from her mouth falloff

and let's pray that sharon jones will be the ONLY opening act so prince won't bitch about a curfew

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I've been hearing a lot about them for the past two years, but never had a chance to see them live.

I just discovered Sharon Jones ad the Dap Kings about a year ago and got to see them a few times in 2010. They are a great band. Sharon sings and dances her butt off and her band is TIGHT! Real music. It will be a great show:-D

P.S. I recommend the album I Learned the Hard Way. Really good stuff.music

Does anyone remember, did she open for Morris Day and The Time when they were in Brooklyn a few years back at BAM?

Great band.

They also did a cover of Janet's What Have You Done For Me Lately, which obviously is a track P likes to mess with once in a while - but I have to say I prefer the original by a long way (I would say the Dap Kings 'soul'ed it up a little too much it's a great 80's electro funk track, Dap Kings version has horns all over it and it loses something).

Anyway I'm getting off the point - as I say, great band, sure this'll be a great show and an excellent warm-up for da man...

Wish I was going! eek

I have all of their albums. They are a lot better than a number of the acts out there today.

They have an old school soul vibe and are real musicians. In fact, they're behind Amy Winehouse's album.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

They opened for Morris Day & The Time a few years back at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). Not bad.
